The St. Louis Cardinals and River City Rascals announced Wednesday that they have formed a new partnership with Gateway FEAST for the 2008 baseball season.

Gateway FEAST, which stands for food allergy, eczema, and asthma support team, is a free support group serving St. Louis and Missouri residents dealing with allergic conditions.

Gateway FEAST's efforts also include community education and awareness concerning the needs of families coping with allergies and asthma.

The Cardinals and River City Rascals have designated specific sections at Busch Stadium peanut free in support of Gateway FEAST.

On July 21st, the St. Louis Cardinal's have made section 328 peanut-safe for one game this season as a trial. The River City Rascal's have designated Section 109 peanut-safe during every Wednesday home game.

Fans with severe food allergies can purchase $22 Cardinal's tickets by calling (314) 345-9500 and requesting Section 328, the "peanut safe section." To purchase $8 Rascal's tickets for any Wednesday home game in Section 109, call(636) 240-BATS.

Oh boy, what is this world coming too? Soon there will be out and out bans of peanut products because those who have allergies. I'm not saying anything bad for those who have food allergies, because I know several people who have them, but to make a special area for them is so ridiculous.

As a kid, I was allergic to peanuts, seafood, tomatoes, chocolate, food colorings, cosmetics, cigarette smoke ... all KINDS of EVERYDAY stuff!!! I stayed away from the cosmetics, but if I ate the foods, I took my medicine & I kept emergency meds around for serious reactions!! My dad even smoked, but just went outside ... where I'd go meet him to visit!! Know what ... I enjoyed the foods in moderation and as I got older, eventually became desensitized to them!! Even took up smoking for a few years during my party days in HS & college. I survived!!!
C'mon people ... use a little common sense instead of running and hiding all the time!!

Probably overkill, but not really that big of a deal IMO. If it makes more kids able to go to a ball game, I'm ok with it.

A better idea would be to have one FEAST awareness night, where there would be no allergen containing stuff in the park for one game only. Allergic kids could go to the game, and it would raise awareness in the general public.
