View Full Version : Bloom County
This, to me, was the ultimate '80's comic strip. Opus the penguin, Bill the Cat, Steve Dallas, and the rest were great and I was sad to see the strip end. I've got the "collected works" and you can see the entire cultural, social, and political history of the decade in those cartoons. Truly a classic.
Bill the Cat rules! Mum loves Opus. We have about 3-4 books. Haven't read them in a while though. Must do that!
Roemello 5-11-01, 04:00 AM Had to see it to remember it, but now I know You can check out the old comic strips and a bunch of other stuff at:

Total Bloom County fan. I have several of the books and love to read and re-read them. It is a hard call for me on whethe this or Calvin and Hobbes is my fave 80's comic strip. Think I would have to call it a tie.
Ah, Calvin and Hobbes! Love them too!
Urethane 5-11-01, 11:45 AM I loved Calvin and Hobbes! When my son was born I struggled with whether to name him Calvin or not (that and SpaceMan Spiff) he even has the blonde hair! But we settled on Drake instead. Transmogrify me!
He would've grown up to hate you you know! But then most kids hate their names anyway!
djdaffy1227 5-11-01, 12:40 PM I have many Bloom County books. Including the one that came with the Billy and the Boingers record. I recently burned "I'm a boinger" and "U-Stink-but-I-love-u" on a C.D. If you have never heard these songs try to find them. The lyrics for "I'm a Boinger" are brilliant!
"and if you don't know by now, Bill bit the head off of a cow That's no lie, that's no lie cuz he's a Boinger"
Can't say I've heard those songs!
morningmyst 5-13-01, 06:30 AM Am I the only one who didn't care for Bloom County???????
It was ok, but not something I had to read. I wasn't a big fan of it.

Nope Myst, I can't seem to keep up with comics myself, so does that mean I'm a prude *lol*
I couldn't tell ya how many Garfield books I have. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next ones.
Silveradocruiser 5-13-01, 07:23 PM Garfield is the best!! I actually try to live the way he does...
Roemello 5-14-01, 01:08 AM What? Sleep all day, eat lasagna, and throw the dog off the table? http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies/laugh.gif
Ah.....that would be the life, wouldn't it?
Sounds good to me. lol I actually just got done eating lasagna for dinner. Could live off of that.
Jazzmyn
I never heard of lasagne till I read it in Garfield and then mum made it one day for dinner. Loved it ever since.
Roemello 5-14-01, 01:20 PM I can live off anything pasta related I remember wanting to eat it just because Garfield liked it at one time...lol
Cool link, Roemello! Yeah! They even have video clips of the Christmas special, which I loved. "An Albatross! She left me for an albatross! With great.... big... long... wings!"
Hey Urethane, my friends named their adopted greyhound Spaceman Spiff. I think he plays Calvinball, even.
Greenway88 7-05-02, 10:04 AM Oh Yeah! Here's another penguin for Lisa to love, Opus!
Shortie Blonde 7-05-02, 11:38 AM This is soooo familar to me, but...:dammit:
TriageRN 7-06-02, 01:32 AM I love Opus! I was a councelor at a kids camp one year and I used the name Opus for my camp name! I did the entire cabin up in Bloom County pictures and stuff...it was great!!!!!!!
Did I like Bloom County...(see avatar and user name). I never even read BC until after I had graduated high school, then watch out. I couldn't get enough. I spent nearly every free dollar I had buying the books. It certainly didn't end there. For a wedding present, my wife even bought me a stuffed Opus! From time to time I still surf the net to try and find more goodies that I might have missed.
Bloom County was so great! I almost cried when Berke decided to quit doing the strip........but I guess it was just as well. Bloom County ended when the 80's ended, and if any comic strip truly mirrored life in the decadent, frivolous, fun 80's......it was that one!
