View Full Version : Favorite Christmas Carols?
pamela* 12-01-01, 10:34 PM Tis the Season and all, so what are some of your favorite Christmas songs? My personal favorite is What Child is This? mainly because I can play it on piano.. I can't read sheet music.. but I learned it by ear. Bloody brilliant.. cause I never taken lessons, and it's the only song I can play. I wish I'd taken lessons when I was younger. Of course I also love Oh, Holy Night .. the chorus is beautiful. Other Favorites:
Silent Night
Twelve Days of Christmas
The First Noel
We Three Kings
and of course... Grandma got ran over by a reindeer. :D
Iluvthe80s 12-01-01, 10:37 PM Silent Night is nice. I know this actually is not a Christmas Carol but it's not Christmas till I play it. Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?". That was such a great lineup of musicians!
80sTrivia 12-01-01, 10:40 PM My favorite Christmas carol is also "O, Holy Night", especially when sung by Andy Williams. Absolutely beautiful.
I tend to like the more traditional Christmas carols over the "modern" ones.

:D
I have quite a few Christmas carols that I like going back to Andy Williams who IMO had a beautiful voice for Christmas carols. Air Supply did a beautiful CD called "The Christmas Album".
There are a few beautiful Chistmas songs that are out. One was written in 1991 called "Mary, Did You Know" sung by Kenny Rogers and Wynonna Judd. The song is on Kenny's 1996 CD "The Gift".
The second song I've only heard twice now, and it will tear your heart out. It's just been released by a group called New Song, and the song is called "Christmas Shoes". The song is about a little boy who on Xmas eve finds a pair of shoes that he wants to buy for his very ill mother. He wants to put a smile on her face before she goes to meet Jesus tonight.
The third song was from last year by Faith Hill called "Where Are You Christmas".
Pat Benatar has also just released a new single CD called "Christmas In America" (some lyrics below) about the recent events in our nation and the spirit we hold in the Christmas season. Money from the sales of this song will benefit the New York Fund.
I only heard a very short portion of this song on the radio yesterday, so I don't know how I feel about it yet.
White Christmas by Bing Crosby. It's also my favorite Christmas movie. Don't ask me why. I think it's because my Dad always liked Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye.
Trixter 12-02-01, 02:18 AM My most favorite Christmas carol is:
God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman
followed by:
O' Night Divine
Silent Night
Carol of the Bells
Coventry Carol
Gabriel's Message
Winter Wonderland
O Come All Ye Faithful
Hark the Herald Angels Sing
We Wish You A Merry Christmas
Carol of the Bells is one of my favorites
I'm totally addicted to Trans Siberian Orchestra's rendition of some great Christmas Carols (Carol of the Bells done by them is AMAZING)
Great Thread Pam.
Ted Nugent 12-02-01, 03:24 AM I like any carol, exspecially if mommie sings it to me. :)

You're really worrying me now Ted...
My favorite is by Barbara Streisand. It's called "The Best Gift". She sings about the best Christmas gift she ever got, and it turns out to be a baby born on Christmas Eve. My mother plays it every year on my birthday at the exact minute I was born and just holds on to me and cries during the whole song. I used to roll my eyes and accomodate her during it when I was younger, but now that she's 70 years old and I know there might not be many more birthdays with her in it, I actually look forward to it.
pamela* 12-02-01, 03:49 AM Mary did you know? is a good one Sarg.
Thanks Zel, not sure if I know Carol of the Bells, actually, I probably do.. and just didn't know the name. Sounds beautiful ;)
Ted, you get mommie that gift she wants.. remember the really HUGE house in Maine... on the coast. Yeah, that's the one.. then I'll sing all the Christmas Carols you want :p
Dancingdoll1986 12-02-01, 03:50 AM My fave is Feliz Navidad by Jose Feliciano. I don't know why, but as I was growing up, my mom always said that it wasn't Christmas until that played on the radio.
Also, I have to agree on the TransSiberian Orchestra on Carol of the Bells.
ImSoooSure 12-02-01, 05:28 AM My favorite traditional Christmas carol is O Holy Night.
My favorite fun one is Snoopys Christmas. I think that's the name. From the Guardsmen I believe.
My favorite pop one is Do they know it's Christmas?
I love hearing each of these songs! :)
Dancing Doll I totally agree with our mom. Every year without fail when i do my baking this comes on and it just gives me so much cheer :)
Pam go to audiogalazy and type in Trans Siberian Orchestra - then for your first one grab Carol of the Bells. You won't regret it and you'll want more. I can't explain this music but its like old meeting new and really clicking musicwize :)
wavemaster 12-02-01, 05:47 AM There´s actually one song I like...can only remember the first line and the rhyme: 'Oh the weather outside is dreadful...let it snow, let it snow, let it snow', I guess it´s from the 50s, possibly by Frank Sinatra. It was also featured as the end title in 'Die Hard 2' as far as I can remember.
Since I´m all alone (except of you maybe ;)) on the 24th of December, I will get out my favourite X-mas tune, 'Red Water (Christmas Mourning)' by Type O Negative. It´s pretty sad, so don´t listen to it when you´re in a festive mood (my advice of warning).

Prolly won't, cuz nothings been going my way lately.............Life sux somtimes! :( Exspecially when your best friends lies to you!
Sorry about that. I needed to get it out.
I'm partial to stuff by Perry Como, Bing Crosby, The Chipmunks  , etc... The older stuff. There is one from the 80's that I like though. Christmas Wrapping (http://www.hardcafe.co.uk/waitresses/xmas_wrapping.mp3) by The Waitresses. Anyone else remember that one?
Kayenne 12-02-01, 08:50 AM The song that "ignites" my Christmas spirit is "Last Christmas" (yeah yeah - I know...) :D I desperately try to avoid hearing it before December 1!
Otherwise it's:
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
Little Drummer Boy
Deck The Halls
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
Minuit, Chrétiens (French)
Petit Papa Noël (French)
Dejlig Er Jorden (Danish)
Glade Jul, Dejlige Jul (Danish)
Probably one of my very favorites is Bing Crosby and David Bowie singing Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy. And of course Band Aid Do They Know It's Christmas?
I love Oh Holy Night , Do You Hear What I Hear?,The First Noel, White Christmas...and just about everything else. I love them all! (...much to my husband's chagrin. He gets quite sick of Christmas music in December, but he humors me pretty well.)
Wave the name of the song is Let It Snow - we've been singing that song all week because we had a ton of snow dumped on us :)
I love the Chipmunks Christmas Album...Alvin....Alvin...... ALVIN!!!! :D
I'm going to have to do some grabbing. I don't have a needle for this anymore :(
