View Full Version : Inocense
CBS is showing 'Frosty the Snowman' and 'Frosty Returns'. My son is watching the first of these. When Santa gets onto the magician for trying to take his hat from Frosty, my son stands up and says, "Yeah! Get Him Santa!". I wish we could all keep that level of inocense (<- sp?).
Remember when you believed in the magic of Christmas?
"innocence" Red....and yes, I remember the magic of Christmas, because I keep the magic. Christmas has over the course of time become a holiday for everyone. I don't think the religious aspect matters anymore. My keyboard player's wife, who's Jewish, celebrates it every year with a tree and all the trimmings. So do my wife and I.
Magic plays a big part in our lives to begin with, so keeping a magical holiday like Christmas was easy. I'm happy that I'm the kind of person who can step back and become a wide-eyed kid again at the drop of a hat. Heck, I do that every year at Disneyworld!
That Guy Next Door 12-01-01, 12:06 AM I remember it used to be like that, but I don't remember when it changed, seems like ages ! Well I read yer post, disapointigly did not find the mayhem of yer nick, but I thought it was real nice thought. Made me think. Usualy I tend to be bitter and bitchy and moody and... got the picture. Being easygoin and positive and stuffs require lottsa efforts fer me wiv the notable exception of work and best friend and some boards. Do you guys always have to force yerself like till' yer ears bleed cause yer brain is leakin'. I look at my best friend and she seems to naturally have a positive gentle spirit. Back then, I used to think she faked it. But when i see her alot, she's all the same, always come up with something nice to say ( that's until we had an argument cause I started a brawl at her school, me stoopid TGND )Nice thing just like the first post of this thread. It's weird, gimme the feelin' some people are better suited fer happiness !
Anyway, I think this story about yer son was kinda nice, cause it was a tought ya had not from personnal problem, but from a good time wiv yer son. ( usually I only notice bad thing ). I sincerely hope yer son will still marvel at wahtever beauty and innocence there's on earth !
Children, they're our chance to make it right this time 'round !
A totally sober and delusioned TGND !
P.S. : I'm probably cranky from the argument wiv my friend !
Take care and keep it raw and straightfoward !
Oh aye !
Christmas is easily my favorite time of year. Its just magnified by the kids.
I love Christmas! It's my favorite holiday. It's so great when you get to see kids trying so hard to be good so Santa will come and bring extra, and everyone is a little more willing to help each other. The tree that lights up the room and the light in a child's eyes on Christmas morning, after spending the night wondering if Santa would miss their house and if they left the right cookies. Even if you don't have a religion that you follow, or yours is different than others religion, you have to love the spirit that surrounds the kids at Christmas time. :)
Val, I think you said beautifully what I was trying to say.
TGND, annual_mayhem is just a madeup name. Its not a personality trait. If anything, its almost the opposite of how I really am.
ImSoooSure 12-01-01, 03:49 AM I still love all those Christmas specials. Our family still always buys each other atleast one childish gift during Christmas. Keeps the spirit alive. We also celebrate the spiritual aspect and it adds a lot for me personally.
Jazzmyn 12-01-01, 06:06 AM I love this time of year. I get to act just like a kid. lol Love getting the tree and decorating it. Still watch the specials when I can. :) Will always be something magikal this time of year for me. ;)
Man, I envy you. I think having kid's would re-ignite a passion for Christmas that I used to have.

It definitely has for me. Christmas started to lose its appeal after I left home. Now that I have kids I can be part of the excitement, just by seeing the looks on their faces and knowing they are excited.

You have any niece or nephews? :)
I recall the first Christmas my nephew had and the look on his face...it was priceless! It even made me teary eyed. ;) I am in awe that he is watching and enjoying the same Christmas shows I used to watch! :)
It has been snowing here all week and it definitely has me in the mood for Christmas. I hate the commerical aspects of it (get me this, I want that) but I love the spirit of Christmas.
Pagan doesn't the Christmas tree have celtic/pagan traditions behind it? I love the tree and all the lights and decorations. I loved watching the kids excitment when I was in the parade two weeks ago.
A friend told me last night that the origins of Santa's red suit came from Coca Cola sponsoring the first Santa Claus Parade.
Red we watched it last night with my friends kids. I love reliving these specials through the eyes of a child - that is what makes Christmas wonderful :)

I can answer the Santa Claus part, in the documentary, the Cola Wars, they said the fat jovial Santa we use here did originate in a 1930's Coke commercial, I think prior to that Santa wore a red suit, but was tall and lean, I guess since Diet Coke was'nt around in the 30's and the thigh master was still decades away, Santa packed on a few pounds. :)
Iluvthe80s 12-01-01, 09:14 PM Oh, I can remember the days when I would go to bed early so Christmas morning would hurry up and come. Sometimes I would sneak in the bathroom closet to see some of my presents, but Mom was good about wrapping them before I got home from school.
I remember also never missing "Frosty The Snowman", "Rudolph", "A Charlie Brown Christmas", and "How The Grinch Stole Christmas". I loved those shows.
I saw that documentary Cal - Coca Cola knows how to play dirty :D
I used to be very patient when I was a kid, I never snooped or shook boxes or any of that. I have gotten really bad in the past few years though - I shake everything and hunt the last two weeks where my hubby might have hidden the gifts :D I am also really bad about shopping early for Christmas gifts and not being able to wait until Christmas to give them to people so I have to go buy more LOL vicious cycle :)

WHAT?!? I don't know WHAT you are talking about  !! Santa does NOT leave presents by our toilets, and the elves wrap them!!
LMAO!! Oh, my. LOL I couldn't resist!
The rug rats christmas/chanukah is on. (I know, not the old time shows we used to watch)She is only 20 months old, but she is glued to that t.v. set. Its so cute. This is her first christmas that she will really be aware of. Next week they are going to have Santa at my work, and I'm going to bring her in. It will be interesting to see how she reacts to him.

LOL @ Val! Seriously, we had a full size closet in our bathroom. My Mom used to tell me when I asked one time why one or two of the presents said "From Santa" on them, "Well, he went ahead and gave me these early to keep since he has so many houses to visit on Christmas Eve."
