View Full Version : Again...Virus Warning...
wavemaster 11-27-01, 11:54 AM A new or modified virus is on the loose...it was identified as Worm/Badtrans.b .
Characteristically, the e-mail which carries this attachment contains no text, only the attachment itself.
(Tell me...how dumb you must have to be sending stuff like that so obviously? Sheesh...)
It is recommended to update your virus scanner or install one on your PC if you havenīt already done it.
Do not try to open the attachment, delete the mail immediately.
Roemello 11-27-01, 01:53 PM They never quit, do they.. :p I don't open any attachments from anyone I don't know anyway, but thanks for the heads up wave
My messages are scanned before they even make it to my pooter and axed if they are viral with attachments!
pamela* 11-27-01, 08:06 PM I've actually gotten a few of those e-mails with Hotmail and I always delete them. I never open attachments unless I know the person sending them , what type of file it is (pic etc.) and it's something they would actually send me.
Ted Nugent 11-27-01, 08:19 PM Thanks for the warnin', wave. :) I get those all the time, I just delete them.
Last week tc sent me the cat scratch fever virsus, my computer hasn't recovered yet. :p

Iluvthe80s 11-27-01, 11:11 PM Thanks for the warning, wave. I will run my virus scan tonight!

Do you know if your computer has either one of these programs:
Norton Anti-Virus?
McAuffee Virus Scan?
Sheibub 11-28-01, 12:48 AM All viruses get *killed* as they are downloaded here! We use a program called AVG.
Thanks for the warning Wave! :D
My McAffee (sp?) virus scan kicks in as soon as I start my comp up. There is always a little VShield on my screen display by my clock. You mean I have to do more than that? I hate these damn machines!
Roemello 11-28-01, 02:04 AM I have the same thing Val...and that's all I have. You just have to be careful what you download and where you download it from and you should be just fine... :) And as far as e-mails go, never download any attachments unless you know the person it's coming from.

We all have our excuses. :D
Seriously, if you haven't already shut down your browser listen up:
(1) Shut down browser.
(2) Shut down computer.
(3) Start your computer with (hopefully an updated version) your virus protection software's rescue disk (which I hope you made/have).
(4) Run a full scan.
(5) Virus software should kill the bug or if there is not one, you're lucky all you have to do is re-install your browser. Some lil' bugs change what are known as Internet Preference Files. These come in different forms depending on your op and browser. They contain your homepage and security settings among other things and can easily be edited.
Just give me more details if you need more help. Good luck!

A Chinese Sex site? Boy...they are already over one billion people, so why do they need sex sites anymore? :D
Okay, back to business...itīs maybe enough when you clean the cache of your browser. Clear your temporary Internet folder and your history, if you have IE 6 running, wipe also the Cookies folder clean. Enter the desired start page manually, confirm with 'OK'.
If the same site is still the start page, you have to run a virus scanner to get rid of it.
Therrall 11-28-01, 04:22 AM I ran a virus scan and came up clean, I emptied all my temp. int. files and cache everything except my cookies folder was emptied, i can't manually type in a homepage because it won't let me click on it or my security settings they're greyed as well.
Just try a re-install. Should clear it up. I hate web sites that do that crap.
Therrall was running IE 4.0 which explains the lack of security that allowed the easy changes and block in her system. She updgraded to IE 5.5, or was over a 56K dialup, ugh!, so she should be fine tonight. I was going to try and walk her through cleaning everything out, but why not upgrade and get the better security features!?

LMAO @ wave! That is a good point!
Dancingdoll1986 11-29-01, 02:47 AM Aron did a mass-mailing for his web-design company, and we've gotten 2 emails back with the badtrans virus. UGH! We have a "standard" email that we are sending back to them letting them know that they have a virus and how to clean it up, along with our number so that if they need any help, we can do it. (That's what we do...we are support...we are here for you!!)

I actually think IE6 has better security than 5.5 did. It offers more in the way of control in the Internet Options.

Yes it does, and I have found some more toys with the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK)! It even comes with an Internet Explorer Customizatioin Wizard. I love wizards (most of the time)!
