View Full Version : Class of '89.
NewRomantic 1-30-01, 08:48 AM Wow! I just discovered some class of '89 ERs out there.
Are there any more of you?
Fancy being 30 (shudder cringe etc..) this year!!
I was checking myself out in the mirror the other day, as you do, and I was horrified to discover a grey hair!! Oh no, there's my youth gone!
In my Audio Engineering class I'm called (affectionately I hope!) Grandpa.
All the young kids in the class talk about the bands that 'Grandpa' has never heard of. Man I'm sooo old.
Still I try to talk up as much as I can the likes of A Flock Of Seagulls; Pseudo Echo (an Australian new romantic band); Gary Numan etc, much to their amusement I think!
Fools! They don't know what they missed.
So Class of '89 come forward. Don't be shy! Show yourselves.
Sal Collaziano 2-01-01, 04:03 PM Well! I was supposed to be in the class of '89 - but I got left back. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//redface.gif hehe Well, no biggie. I think I turned out just fine. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif But anyways, I'm just staying my class of '89ness.. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif I'm 29 as of this past September.. Oh goodness. That means 30 this year! haha Whatever! I don't care. I don't look it or feel it. So I'm NOT it! And you forget about they grey hair! 30 is nothing! 40 isn't even old anymore... So don't go kidding yourself about 30! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

I would have been class of '89, but I dropped out of school. Had a lot of problems going on my teenage years. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif Much better now though. Got my GED and going back to school in the fall. I know I'm not ready to turn 30 though. Still trying to figure out how I got this old!!! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif Don't have to worry about grey hair since I color my hair. Also helps that I only look 24. Love that. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif

ReagansRenegade 2-10-01, 07:59 PM I have a G.E.D. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//uhoh2.gif class of 98 here...Oh who am I kidding I'm not a class of anything http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif
Class of 89. I was supposed to be 88, but I had to prove a point in 7th grade. I will be 31 this year. I dont know what happened to the past 10 years. I remember turning 21, and then things just zipped by. I had a baby almost a year ago, now, and things are just going even faster. I named her "Sara" after the songs from Fleetwood Mac, and Jefferson Starship (I think thats what they called themselves in the 80's). She will probably think the music from my time is so stupid. Or I will play it so much that she will learn to appreciate it too.
I'm techinally with you Reagen. Got my GED in 90. Was supposed to graduate in 89' though. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif Just had some rough teenage years and did things the hard way. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif

ReagansRenegade 2-13-01, 11:01 PM Jazzmyn I didn't go to highschool cause I didn't want to get my ass kicked!
I dropped out of society and sorta never went back!
I'm teaching myself high math now- which for ME means algebra. Just finished memorizing my times and divisions tables http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//00hahaha.gif Pretty sad huh?
On the upside I NEVER got my ass kicked, and by default never got pantsed or turned down for the prom! I think that makes me smart. I do.

Just don't ask me for help with your math!! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif lol Not my strong point at all. Never can remember all the formulas required. I know history though. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//icon36.gif Always interested me for some reason. Used to read encylopedias as a kid on different counties. I admit to being weird. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif

D2, I have 2 girls (9 & 5) that love my music, they sing to Loverboy, Tina Turner, Alice Cooper, Night Ranger (anything I'm listening to at the time)........I'm proud of their musical taste http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif
Now all this talk about math is giving me the whillies ewwww definitely not a strong subject for me http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif

ReagansRenegade 2-14-01, 09:29 PM Ayla you aint weird at all! I read whatever is laying around when my television looks like it might blow out (i use WebTV).
History can be VERY interesting- it can even get you in trouble if you are seditious about it, even in this day and age! I love making trouble, and history is the sure-fire way.
I am almost paralyzed with fear on math tests.
The key with math is that it isn't ANYTHING like the usual problem solving you use when reading or figuring things out in daily life.
Math requires route memorization of basic answers to sets of multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. The more sets you have memorized the easier it is.
And of course you use these memorized sets, or tables, to speed up mental computation of various mathmatical formulas. If you don't have "your tables memorized" the formulas take longer to remember, which is sort of route learning in and of itself, because you can't practice with the formulas fast if you don't have the necessary tables memorized.
Without knowing my tables I would have difficulty with long division (being a formula), and in turn problems with algebra and I'm not even sure what the next step after that would be, if I have to learn anything else. I'm saying this because I'm just realizing now why all the subconcious memorization of tables (or sets) is neccessary.
I started getting over my fear of math (which still exists of course and probably always will) by route memorizing what for me were the hardest to remember times tables, and division. I must have repeated like 10 harder tables over and over again by mouth and on paper, at least a thousand times each. Now I practice at http://www.aaamath.com my multiplication and division. I solve at least 200 a day, and only make a couple mistakes, mostly because of fumble fingers.
As Bill Murray says- Baby Steps.
The above was pointless, repetitive and seemingly irrelevent- which is the WHAT ROUTE MEMORIZATION IS, at least until you can utilize mathmatical formulas with ease thanks to hundreds of hours of that crap!
These mathmatical formulas (if i am mispelling that it must be aggravating the piss out of the more learned who actually read this) are in turn useless crap, unless you love knowledge for the sake of knowledge, OR can actually use them to seduce women (or men) with useless demonstrations of your proficientcy. However it seems to be required to get into college to a certain extent, and of course because so many people hate math, there may be demand for employees with this ability and therefore high-paying.
You, or more specifically, I, may also use your future proficientcy in complicated mathmatical formulae (aha! plural) to build what I would call "battle bots"- intelligent robotic machines designed to seize large streches of land to further developement in such sciences to seize entire nations.
Now wheres my PhD 8D
Roemello 2-15-01, 12:37 AM You remind me so much of this guy on campus that can just talk and talk and talk and I won't have a clue what the heck he said http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif I just nod and agree http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif
You think Algebra is bad? Take a stab at some of the classes I've had to take...Trigonometry, Finite Math, Calculus, and this semester the horrors of Statistics http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//VIBRATOR.gif When does it all end!? http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//CRYING2.gif

"Only the meek get pinched. The bold survive."
Class of 90 here. I had my 10 year reunion last Thanksgiving. I had a really good time. I got to see some old friends and the best was seeing the class premadonna dancing with the class nerd since her husband wouldn't get up and dance while the other guy was out there shaking it. My wife and I had a blast and she didn't even go to my school.http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

ReagansRenegade 2-17-01, 01:51 AM So Roem what your saying is that you agree with my plans for the future? Excellent!
Trigo..something. I don't think I'll need that- statistics? Mmmmm, pass.
Greetings Jess http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wavey.gif You say "Premadonna"?? You have pictures of this "premadonna"!?

Your lucky you are just now discovering a grey hair. I have been getting gray hairs since I was 22. I'm turning 30 in about a week and a half and now my hair is becoming a mix of gray and dark brown. I'm guessing I will be totally gray by the time i'm 40 at this rate.
I loved turning 30. It was quite the party 40 does seem young as does 50 now :)
Reagan don't ever knock yourself for trying to better yourself. We all move at our own pace and I think you are a very strong person for going after what you want. School teaches many things but it doesn't really teach you anything about life. Stay strong.
Roem if you need help with Stats I can help you. That was my concentration at Uni :) Any troubles please email me Zels80s@unitz.on.ca it will help me keep my stats fresh too since I use very little of it in the field I'm in right now :)
I was class of 87. Went back in the 90s to refresh before University and that was hard with a family but it can be done :)
wavemaster 10-05-01, 12:56 AM Class of '86 here...if I hadīn decided to try it out in the fields of mechanics, it would have been '89.
At first, I was alarmed when I reached the 3 before the 0. Where have all the time gone? After some time (about a year or so...), things calmed down. I guess the next attack of panic comes with 39... :D
Class of '85 and proud. It was a great year. :) The 80's ruled for me. High school 81-85. College 85-89. The best of both in one decade. That rocked!
Caligula 10-05-01, 09:09 AM class of 83.......1983 Ted not 1883
CLASS OF 89 HERE... AND DARN PROUD OF IT..
I went to a family reunion a few months ago and i have three cousins that turned 30 in the same year. We were all sitting around and talking about how bad it was to be the BIG 30!!! We discussed what we all did on that special day. All three of them got tattoos and got something pierced. I just got drunk by myself. I didn't get anything pierced that to me was a bit to extreme. But it was a big deal turning 30.
Kayenne 10-05-01, 10:57 AM Class of '88 here! :) Did the 30-thing this time last year - no biggie. I never think much about how old I am - just how old I feel.
BCRichRocker4JC 9-12-04, 11:42 PM Class of '88 right here, baby!!!!
