View Full Version : Extracurricular Activities
Iluvthe80s 7-31-01, 12:45 AM I don't know if this one has been covered, but here it goes. In high school, what extracurricular activities were you in?(sports, band, etc.) I was in band from 6th grade up until the 11th grade. I played alto saxophone in marching band and bass guitar in jazz band.
I was a pitcher on the school baseball team.
I did Merit Scholar for one year...and I did Girls Athletic Association one year...and I typed for the Athletic Dept. for 2 years...and I drank a lot in high school...And I was B.O.E. class secretary for 2 years...and I drank a good bit of beer and whiskey...did I say that already? LOL That's probably why I can't remember what else I did right now.
xistenza 7-31-01, 02:43 AM okay, was I the only nerd? I was in National Honors Society, The Poetry/Literary Club, I ran track for a year, and was a silly captain of the girls soccer team my freshmen year. I quit track & soccer after I was a freshmen. i found puppy love and said goodbye to my sports.

I participated in the highly acclaimed after school activity of detention.
ImSoooSure 7-31-01, 04:54 AM hmmm...yeah, can't think of any official school activities I was involved in. Just the typical parties, boys, parties and boys!
morningmyst 7-31-01, 05:06 AM I, too, played Saxaphone....I was in gymnastics, and Key Club...(Wasn't bright enough for Honor Society though)...played basketball....(was short, but very quick)...uhh...I think that's it....
nolanbuc 7-31-01, 06:31 AM Good topic!
I played drums (we called it "percussion", though) in the marching & corcert bands. I also played drums for a few garage bands. I never played football past junior high, but I did the long jump on the track & field team. I also got in a good deal of trouble with some regularity.

Ditto.
Dancingdoll1986 7-31-01, 10:45 AM I stayed pretty active!
I was:
On the drill (dance) team for 3 years (captain 1), Key Club 2 years (VP 1), Drama Club 4 years, Cat's Cabinet 2 years.(our version of a sorority...yes, we were the Wildcats!)
Plus, I danced with a local studio in jazz, tap, ballet, and point for about 26 years total, the Cleveland Ballet on M-W-S in the evening.
That didn't include dating and yes, my mouth had gotten me into a LOT of trouble, so detention as well.

Wow that is a long time ago.
I was a cheerleader for two years. I also was in the chorus and I played the bass in the orchestra, I thought that was a good way to meet boys.
But in my Junior year the only extra activities i was involved in was changing diapers and being a wife.
My school days were long (until 4.30 PM 4 days per week) so I only managed to do drama and badminton. My school was French in style and there wasn't much to do for AC. Oh well -they kept us busy with homework.....
I cut class a couple of times (there was a bar about 1 km away from school) but was never caught (don't think they made such a big deal of it) and never spent time in detention or whatever equivalent we had!
80sTrivia 7-31-01, 11:43 AM I was the president of the Spanish Club, and we had special meetings after school all the time, which was fun. I was also a member of the Beta Club (gosh, how dorky!), Science Club (dorky again), and History Club (this sounds pathethic!). The only sports team that I was a member of was the tennis team, which was a lot of fun!

i had planned on being in an 80's band, so I thought it would be really cool if it had sax music in it. Like INXS did. (why don't more bands use them?) I played alto sax in school, but we didn't play for games or have to wear those tacky outfits.lol. We played a concert in an audatorium a few times. It was fun. We got to play some jazzy tunes..
I never was in a band, though. i moved to new cities a bit growing up.

Check out King Kurt. My personal favourite of the Psychobilly bands in the 80s. The sax (and everything else) in their break-kneck version of Mack the Knife is magnificent.
By the time I was 13 I probably gone to more than 10 different schools. Being a gypsy like that makes it tough to settle. However, I did manage to play football (sorry, soccer) for most of my schools. Played gaelic football in Ireland too. Most of the time I was out the door as soon as that bell rang.lol
oh wait.
no way would i be in a school project if i had to stay after. haha
this was for an elective that we had to take during the school session anyway.
by 3:00 i was out of there, too.
(i know,,'extra' curricular. but that's as close as i got to school related activities.)

Until junior year, at least, (when I too found love!) I was Really Busy with extra-curricular stuff.
I played junior varsity softball my freshman year, (Center fielders! Yeah!) mostly to stay in shape and goof off with my friends on the bus, but I quit sophomore year to spend more time on drama and music.
At one time or another I was involved in: (not all at once, thank God!)
[LIST] AFS - our main activities were fundraising to buy the exchange students letter jackets, yearbooks, and such, plus making friends. I was too poor to go abroad myself, but I think I got a lot out of spending time with our exchange students.
Drama club/musical/one-act play competition - My greatest time sink all through school. I'm a techie-- I used to love to go up on the catwalk and set lights! Not to mention running fog machines, using power tools, airbrushes, you name it. The best play I was ever involved in was Translations by Brian Friel-- we went to state one-acts with that one.
Band! Also jazz band. I played bass clarinet mostly, but in high school I also picked up sax and flute. I marched with a bari sax... LOL, I can barely imagine it now, marching with a 30-pound, 4-foot-tall Thing slung around my neck. In college, I also picked up the tuba and the baritone/euphonium. Band was really the most fun for me, and I always felt the most myself when I was playing.
School newspaper. I was the sophomore editor, low on the totem pole where the editorial staff was concerned, but we had such a great time. My biggest high school crush and I got to be really good buddies thanks to the paper. I was in charge of the typesetting and pasting, which we did in PageMaker 1.0, and the old-fashioned way. Memories..... Rubber cement!
Literary magazine-- managing editor my senior year-- an uphill battle in an anti-intellectual school. Still, it was great experience.
I think that's it! I also fenced, but in a club setting, not connected with school. Fencing is really the only sport I have ever been /good/ at. That and badminton.

MMMmmmm. That Sax is sexy! (Unless it happens to be being played by Bill Clinton.)
Let's see. I was in: Cross Country & Track, Karate, DECA (business club), and quite often (like Not Man) in detention.
wavemaster 8-02-01, 03:30 PM The only extracurricular activity that I attended was a history course which had the topic of "FRG - GDR". I had choosen it because of a 5-day travel to Berlin which was included... ...to be serious, we had to choose 2 topics which were held during school time.
This was the better one...the other was "Musik aus Strom" featuring the basics of synthesizer music. I´ve fallen regulary asleep during the lessons, I was really interested but the teacher had a very lame kind of presenting the stuff...
Oh yeah, and I belonged to the exclusive but inofficial club of the "1:30 pm final bell - longers"...
