View Full Version : 80s Drinking Games
BlueJean 4-03-06, 07:49 PM What were your favorite 80s drinking games? And what kind of rules did ya'll play with??
My favorite was (of course) Quarters. If a person made three shots in a row, he or she got to make up a "rule." The most common rules were (1) you can't say drink, drank or drunk, (2) you couldn't point at someone, or (3) you couldn't curse. All of these rules were practically impossible to follow after a couple of drinks. We always played with beer, but some people play with other liquors. I've always been a beer girl myself.
List some of the 80s drinking games you used to play here!
A variation of Quarters.....Chandeliers.
Each person had a small glass filled halfway with beer plus one in the middle. They were all pushed together. Whoever's glass the quarter went into had to drink. If it went in the middle glass, everyone had to drink and whoever finished last had to drink the one in the middle. (I wasn't a beer girl back then, so I always ended up being the one to drink the middle.)
Not a PC thug 4-03-06, 09:49 PM I don't remember all the rules. Something to do with the beer I drank when I played.
Thumper... I can't remember how to play it, but I remember pounding on the tables.
Up and the down the river, drinking game with cards.
My favorite....A$$hole. It was good to be the president or vice. It sucked to be the A$$hole or vice a$$hole. Too long to explain, and the second half of the game just tipped off. :)
80's fanatic 4-03-06, 10:38 PM We played UNO For Shots. We took 4 people and starting playing UNO normally. After someone went out, the people who still had cards in their hands would count them up. If you had any wild cards in your hand, or points OVER 50 you would have to drink a whole cup ( we used beer ) before the next game was started. Any forwards and rewinds, you would have to drink a shot.... before the next person took their turn. Usually, the two people at the head of the table would stick together and gang up on the other two. If you want a game to get you drunk QUICK, then this game is for you. We went through a 30 pack in 1 hours time    Awesome game !!!!!
80s Queen 4-03-06, 10:43 PM My fave game was Quarters too. And like you I am a beer girl. I can remember going with my husband, who at that time was my boy friend to another couple's house and playing quarters on Friday nights. We always played with beer too. Man! that was a blast. I'd still play even now. It was so cool.
Glenn Gulia 4-03-06, 10:46 PM Quarters and Chandeliers (we called it the other game)
BlueJean 4-04-06, 09:13 PM I'd love to get in a game of quarters right now...
Anyone remember a game called "Suck and Blow?" It was a card game where we'd all sit in a circle (boy-girl-boy-girl if at all possible), and you'd take a playing card, put it to your lips and suuuuuuuck...then you'd try to pass it to the person sitting next to you without using your hands. Hence the name....suck and blow. The first person to drop the card had to chug one.
80s Queen 4-05-06, 11:21 AM Now that's a new one. I've never heard of that one but it sounds like fun. Cool.!
Matchbox....
This is probably a British thing cos I have never heard of it anywhere else or indeed seen it for many years.
Everyone in the group has a pint and there is also a rogue pint placed in the middle of the table.
You also then need a small box of matches - not the very thin rectangular type.
Hold the box between your index and middle finger.
The box is then flicked over your own pint. (From below the hight of your pint glass to land on the table - if it goes off the table - drink 2 fingers)
The way the matchbox lands determines how many fingers of their pint the next person would then drink.
If it lands on the large flat side then nothing and the box is passed to the next person.
If it lands on the long flat side - 2 fingers.
If you managed to get it to land on the small end - 4 fingers.
Now....these amounts accumulate, until someone throws and lands the box on it's large flat side...
Here's the other thing.
If during your throw the box landed in your pint, the middle pint, or indeed anyone elses beer you downed it (and then bought them a new one!)
If you were up for getting legless this was the game...great fun.
spin the bottle was one
the other ....if you crossed your legs you had to chug a beer, the idea was NOT to cross them, don't have a clue where that came from but we were young and foolish and wore mini skirts...LOL
DevilDoll 5-29-06, 08:24 PM Up the River, Down the river. It was played w/ cards. The dealer would place one card face up, and you had to guess if the next card drawn was higher or lower in value than the card laid down. If you were correct, you got to make someone drink however many points above the card was (say the dealer laid down a 5. If the card drawn was a 10 then you could make someone drink 5 gulps of their drink) but if you were wrong-then you had to drink however many points it was different.
Sounds confusing. It's hard to write it down and have it make sense.
