View Full Version : Joey Ramone is dead
outofplacechild 4-15-01, 09:32 PM Recently, it was reported that Joey Ramone, of pop-punk band The Ramones, was battling lymphoma. He lost that battle today.
Joey Ramone is dead at the age of 49.
I haven't heard much music by The Ramones ("I Wanna Be Sedated", "Rock 'N' Roll High School" and "Rockaway Beach" are the only songs of their's that I can remember listening to), but this is still a sad day for punk music.
Rock on, Joey, wherever you are now!
Sincerely,
John "outofplacechild" Kilduff

cultleader 4-16-01, 02:56 AM I'm sitting here with a lump in my throat and a pain in the pit of my stomach that feels like all Hell, another hero has passed.I had the good fortune to meet Joey after one of the many Ramones shows I was fortunate enough to see,he was very reserved and kind of shy,but in the brief time I got to talk to him,I got a sense that I knew him for years. He was just like that,I've talked to many people that knew him and thats always what they had to say about him,he just had that effect on people.
I grew up listening to the Ramones,I still listen to them on an almost everyday basis, but now I can't help but feel a great saddness.I know this will pass in time, but there will always be a sense of loss deep down inside.
Joey has always been one of the biggest influences on my music, and will continue to be,because in the hearts of his fans,he'll live on as all the great ones do.
Today,Joey has joined Stiv Bators,Johnny Thunders,Wendy O Williams,Sid Vicious, and Jerry Nolan in that great punk rock beyond.May they all Rock on forever. They are all missed very much.R.I.P

Very sad and only 49. I think every radio station should play "Psycho Therapy" in his honor.

ooooooo little Ramona!!!!!
umpopa umpopa Surfin'Bird kicks ass
Sad day indeed...Personally I think the Ramones were at least as good as bands like the Clash or the Sex Pistols who always got more attention. Joey...you will be missed. I'm happy to say at least I got a chance to see them perform live a while back.

Tydestra 4-19-01, 06:54 PM I was looking to see if someone already posted this...
I was totally shocked, though as huge Ramones fan, I knew he's been sick for a while. I found out from the Dj at my job, playing a chunk of Ramones stuff a while after we just finshed talking about him. Its really sucks that it takes the death of Joey for everyone to give him respect. I'm sota pissed off at the media, too much coverage, too much ass kissing, and it all too late.

cultleader 4-19-01, 08:10 PM SCREW THE MEDIA!!!Joey didn't care about the media. It's the family, friends, and fans that are the true tribute to his memory. Here it is 4 days later, and the media has already forgotten but I haven't and all Joeys fans haven't.Me and a few friends spent sometime at the bar yesterday talking about this very thing, after getting pissed off about the media,we realized that what matters is that, one of the innovators or punk(and Rock in general)is gone,so we raised up one last toast to Joey to say goodbye. We've got the music,we've got the memories and thats the kind of respect that truely matters.I think Joey would agree.

Tydestra 4-19-01, 08:32 PM A Brit punk friend of mine said that we're all bloody bastards cause we only follow the media made "idols". He's right. If a musician changes something, they've gone soft, if they move to a major label from an indie one, they're sold out. Right about that too...
The media are a bunch of bloody wankers in need for a good shag.

cultleader 4-19-01, 08:38 PM I totally agree about the media, but this world is filled with sheep who hang on every word the media whore says.As long as people keep letting the plastic people on the evening news tell them whats right and wrong, things will always be the same.
