does anyone remember this group. They had some airplay and video play during 1983 1984 on Much Music. They were from montreal. They had an awesome sound.

one of the songs kinda goes like this...

"walking, walking
on a tight rope of insanity...
walking, walking
on the verge....

Say! Say to me..."

It is very hard to find any info on them. Anyone?

You made me curious, I couldn't think of the song that I rememebered the video, they are a hard band to find anything on so here's what I found

In 1981, Montreal's Jean-Marc Pisapia was a member of Men Without Hats. After a short period (and prior to their world success), he left the band to write tunes with idea man Luc Papineau (lightman for MWH). Several months later, Brie and Florent were recruited. For a period they were called Checkpoint Charlie before Florent suggest the name - The Box.

Meanwhile, Men Without Hats producer Marc Durand had established his own record label with former Anthem Records man Tom Berry called Alert. After Durand produced The Box's winning entry in 1983's CKOI-FM homegrown contest, The Box became Alert's first signing and Jean-Marc's brother Guy was added to take over the main keyboard chores while Jean-Marc focused on vocals.

Their debut album, a mostly English language 'The Box', was released in 1984 and produced several singles which pushed the sales of the album to 10,000 copies.

With the second album 'All The Time..." Guy Florent had left and was replaced by Claude Thibeault. Two new sounds were added in female backing vocals by a very young Sass Jordan, and permanent drummer Phillipe Bernard was assigned to fill the position left vacant by the drum machines. They were nominated for a Most Promising Group Juno and received 1985 Felix Award for being Group Of The Year mainly due to their single/video for the French-meets-English language "L'Affaire Dumoutier (Say To Me)".

1987's 'Closer Together' went platinum due to three hit singles. Along with the single/video of the title track, the band created a 22 minute charity video of the song for Leukemia Canada featuring members of the Montreal Canadiens.

After touring 'Closer Together' for more than 18 months, the band took 6 months off to recover before coming back with 1990's 'The Pleasure And The Pain' which was recorded in England with Martin Rushent (Human League, The Go-Gos). The album's failure to make any in-roads across the border prompted The Box to disband from frustration.

Jean-Marc re-emerged in 1995 with a solo album 'John of Mark' on Alert Records.

"...On the verge of losing mind" I think. Sometimes things just don't work so well in translation. LOL.

We were just talking about boxes when I read this. We were discussing how we wake up and get into a box that takes us into another box where we sit all day until we climb in to another box which takes us back to a box where we go to sleep. Then we wake up and start again. :p

Don't mind me. I've been pinging and running NBTSTATs since 9:00 am. I am now completely stir crazy. I need a drink.

:D

Aaaaahhhh. I can't believe I walked right into a Corey Hart thing. Eyuch!

Thanks for the drink Zel.

I knew this was gonna be a bad day when I realized I'd left my pager and access cards at home.

I'm going to bed and I'm gonna pray that Tuesday is better than Monday was. :)
