Does anyone know exactly what this song is about, or what inspired this song? Is it anything related to the Cold War? All I know is, the lyrics are very ominous, very spooky, and the tone of the song is very desperate. Every time I hear this song, it gives me a very unsettled feeling --- but it's still a great song. Very powerful.

Good post. It's a powerful and emotive tune, obviously a form of protest but I've thus far failed to understand exactly what it's about.

Always been my favourite M&TM tune. :thumb:

It is from the movie "on dangerous ground" which may have something to do with the lyrics. I have never seen the movie, so I could be wrong.

I absolutely love Mike + the Mechanics sound. I wish they would release a greatest hits collection.

Apparently the song came as a tribute to the science fiction movie called "Silent Running" about a dystopian society.

Your wish has come true, they released one a week or so ago. Great band indeed.

But I don't really see the correllation between the movie Silent Running and this song. The song gives me more of this picture of this group of people who wanna live in their own society and be self-sufficient and stuff like that and fight with the authorities if they had to to protect themselves and their beliefs.
Anyway, probably my fav Mike and the M's song along with All I Need Is A Miracle.

You guys may not know that already is a greatest hits cd, which they released one in 1996 shortly after the re-release of the single 'All I Need Is A Miracle'.

It was called 'Hits', and I've got a copy. It doesn't contain the original version of 'All I Need Is A Miracle' however, but otherwise it's an excellent hits album! :thumb:

The hits CD was just released this year in the States. I don't know what took so long. I don't like that there is a new version of "All I need is a miracle" dammit, I want the hit version, that's why I bought a "hits" CD.

Apparently the video to Silent Running featured scences from the movie On Dangerous Ground.

That song is great. I played that once at a club in Detroit, I shit you not, the place went ballistic when I put it on.

I believe the movie also goes by the name Choke Canyon. According to IMDB, it's not very good.

That is a great song. But, getting back to "All I Need Is A Miracle, I don't know why they didn't use the hit version on that disc. I got it a couple of months back and was very disapointed. I don't know why record companys do that. I could go on with this but I don't want to take up the whole board.
