djdaffy1227 5-29-01, 02:23 PM I just recently got Wendy O williams thanks to Cultleader. I buy 80's music all the time. a lot of it on vinyl. Here is a list of the vinyl I just got about a week ago at the used record store.
1 Voices Carry-'Til Tuesday ( the song "looking over my shoulder" was not on the greatest hits C.D. I have)
2 Between the lines-Spider (includes the single "It didn't take long")
3 Pictures at eleven-Robert Plant (Had it on C.D. but it was very bad quality)
4 Teases and dares-Kim Wilde (I recently got her greatest hits but it was for her original record lable not MCA)
5 Vices-Kick Axe (My sister had the tape of this and I loved the song "Heavy Metal shuffle")
6 Frantic romantic-Jermaine Stewart (was looking for the song "Jody")
7 Sold out-The Fools (wanted the song "It's a night for beautiful girls")
8 Ooh yeah-Daryl Hall and John Oates
9 X-static-Daryl Hall and John Oates (went on a kick to get all the songs that were not on the double C.D. greatest hits I have)
10 The return of Bruno-Bruce Willis (I had 45's for "Respect yourself" and "Youngblood" but wanted "Under the boardwalk")
11 12" single for "Big in Japan" by Alphaville
12 Flick of the switch-AC/DC (wanted "guns for hire")
13 45 FOR "Out here on my own" by Irene Cara
I make compilation C.D.'s from my vinyl
The last one I made included songs I borrowed from a friend and some songs I had that bubbled under the hot 100 and 2 90's songs. One because I put memorial day songs in my spotlight last Wednesday night and the other because it fit.
It looks like this:
1 Some gave all-Billy Ray Cyrus
2 Sixteen reasons-Laverne and Shirley (70's)
3 Strang Brew-Ian Thomas with Bob and Doug McKenzie
4 Was there anything I could do-Go-Betweens
5 That lovin' you feelin' again-Emmylou Harris and Roy Orbison
6 Everything works if you let it-Cheap Trick
7 Tough guys-REO Speedwagon
8 We said hello goodbye-Phil Collins (AC hit)
9 Somebody's eyes-Karla Bonoff (AC hit)
10 Radio silence-Boris Grebenshikov (MTV hit 1989)(next ones are bubbling under songs)
11 Hearts on fire-Sam Harris
12 Who's foolin' who-Lulu
13 Gotta get away-Randy Meisner
14 I can't stop loving you-Outlaws
15 Longshot-Henry Paul Band
16 It's our own affair-Ray Parker Jr
17 The walk-The Time
18 Wordy Rappingham-Tom Tom Club
(here's the second shameful 90's hit)
19 Play that funky music-Vanilla Ice
This was my 74th 80's C.D. so you can guess that some of the first ones had more recognizable songs on them.
Pictures at Eleven is awesome! <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> Course I love anything by Robert Plant <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">
This weekend I almost bought a cd something titled 80s Hair Bands. It had alot of great songs. Unfortunaly, I only had enough cash for 1 cd so I picked the new Tool cd instead <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0"> Which I am VERY happy with <img src="smile.gif" border="0">
Chrisscross 5-29-01, 09:26 PM there's a really awesome CD series here in the UK called 'Now that's what I call music.' I'm not sure exactly when it all begins. I bought the two CDs I've been hankering after since January: Now ... 1981 and 1982. I am now saving up for 1983 and 1984/ I'll stop at 1986.
<img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">
Chris
I picked up my four compilation CD's at a Sam's Club. They were sold as a double CD set. "The Party CD" and "Rock Party 80's" came together, and "Moody 80's" and "Sexy 80's" came together. Each Double CD pack costed $9.99, and they had a lot of different ones at the store, so I'll be going back there for more soon now that I know how the quality of the recordings are. If you have a Sam's Club near you, you should check'em out.
I have a Sam's club near me I will check that out. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">
Sexy 80's?? That has a nice sound to it <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">
You guys have some good music. I've always wanted Pat B.'s stuff. All of it's great. Especially "Shadows in the night" and "Love is a battle field."
I have some compilation cd's with songs like "Destination Unknown" and "Never Ending Story" on them. -love that song!
Here's a few I have:
Boston "Third Stage"
New Order "Power, Corruption & Lies"
Berlin "Best of"
Guns and Roses "Use your Illusion"
Cheap Trick's greatest hits
Blondie "best of"
Tori Amos (oops, that might be 90's) Little Earthquakes"
Sinead O'Connor "best of.." and "The Lion and the Cobra"
Banarama's greatest hits
I use to have the Smiths and Morrisey's stuff on tape. Love and Rockets and Bauhaus, Siouxsie..but a roommate of my ex's stole them and left town..<img src="frown.gif" border="0">
All of Pat Benatar's early to mid 80's CD's are still available in stores, but her late 80's albums are out of print, although she did put out a 3CD boxed set in late 1999 for her 20th Anniversary called, "Synchronistic Wanderings Recorded Anthology 1979-1999". It has all of her hits plus session outtakes, and rarities, among them a demo version of "Love Is A Battlefield", and movie soundtracks that she's done.
Iluvthe80s 5-30-01, 05:44 AM I recently got Faster Pussycat's first album, Def Leppard -Pyromania (on CD to replace my cassette that has been lost), Motley Crue-Dr. Feelgood, and L.A. Guns first one.
djdaffy1227 5-30-01, 01:47 PM Stacy,
Does that Faster Pussycat album have "Babylon" on it. I have been looking for that for a long time and it was not on the greatest hits I have of theirs.
Iluvthe80s 5-30-01, 11:15 PM Yes, dj it has "Babylon".
SurlyOne 5-31-01, 02:48 PM Some recent ones I have acquired:
The Producers "The Producers/You Make The Heat" (2-fer)
The C.S. Angels - "Land" (includes the MTV hit "Independence Day") and "7 Day Weekend" (includes "I'm Falling" as heard in the movie "Real Genius.")
Various Artists/"Pure 80's Hits" - includes the 12" mix of "Don't You (Forget About Me)" by Simple Minds
Billy Idol - "Greatest Hits"
Midnight Star - "Anniversary Collection"
<img src="tongue.gif" border="0">
lazy boy 6-19-01, 02:47 PM The last two I bought were a couple of greatest hits CD's, one of Dokken and the other was Whitesnake. I was kind of disappointed that they had some "radio remix" version of Here I Go Again, but then I realized I've got that song on a Monsters of Rock compilation Cd <img src="wink.gif" border="0">
Next ones I want are Van Halen 1984 and Def Leppard Hysteria. My old buddy used to play nothing but that Hysteria tape in his car for about a year. We were all sick to death of it, but now I sorta miss it.
I always liked Cinderella and Europe. Does anybody know if there are Greatest Hits CD's for both of them?
I'm trying to replace the vinyl albums I used to have with CD's.

Yes there are greatest hits for both of them. Europe actually has two. One is called 1982-1992 (that's the one I have) and a newer one is part of the "Super hits" series. Cinderella's is call "Once upon a..."
Both very good collections.

I recently bought a Kid N Play tape! :)
sarasunshine 9-06-01, 01:38 AM I haven't bought a lot of music lately. I've been downloading a lot of 80's music. CDs are so darned expensive. I came across a good one at our local Goodwill for $2 I got Jody Watley's greatest hits. There are a couple that I would love to get..Trinere & Friends greatest hits, Man Parrish greatest hits and Electro Science Freestylers. Sort of hoping I can pick up those on ebay sometime.
:D

xistenza 9-18-01, 12:12 AM This week I bought:
Sinead O'Connor - The Lion and The Cobra
I had this when it first came out, but lost it over the years. So glad I bought it again. I love "Mandika" ;)
Madonna - You Can Dance
This is dance remix cd with mixes of Spotlight, Holiday, Physical Attraction, Over and Over, Into the Groove (a personal fav of mine), and Where's the Party. This is my current fav comp to workout to. :) :)
Most recent '80s additions to Bogie's collection (that haven't been discussed elsewhere) are:
New Gold Dream by Simple Minds (lost the bloody vinyly)
Gentlemen Take Polaroids by Japan (too scratched)
I'd love to add Shuttered Room by the Fixx but can't seem to find it. Anyone know if it's still available? 2nd hand could be my only option.
I just got a Thompson Twins compilation at the grocery store for $7... :D It looked like a promotional release, kinda generic cover. I also picked up Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits and Tracy Chapman's self-titled album. (1988?)
Gotta stay away from the Borders bargain bin for a while!

I guess you've tried all the regular sites like Amazon.com, etc.
I have a program that helps find things i'm looking for; just key in the title of it. i'll see if it shows up.
well, my little online shopper isn't working at the moment.
you could try this site, though i haven't really checked it out. i'm not sure if it's mostly new, used, etc.
http://soundcity2000.com/cd_az/cd03/T0325.HTML
and this one:
http://www.thefixx.com
you might find other links there that will help.
and last but not least,,, http://www2.osk.3web.ne.jp/~buggle/fixx.html
(ignore the translator download suggestion. I was pointing to the other Fixx links on the site.)
have fun
:) :p

it just loves me soo much.
It would appear that the Xchange servers get excited too when you log in. :D
At least now I know I'm not the only one.
"hello...!"
(very sweet of you :)
and i have to rush off to class.
some people just don't understand how fundamental this place is.
Hehe....
Now before we get pulled over by the Topic Police, i.e., Roem:
I'm going shopping at lunch time. Bogie's going to look for some good oldfashioned Shriekback or maybe Les Rita Mitsouko.
I miss those bands!
"la la la lalala la...."
-Mitsouko
and
anything of Shriekback is good.
great taste my stalker has.
:)
Okay, I just found the double-CD Shriekback: The Y Records Years. It's credited in 2000 but this is the first time I've seen it. I'm blasting it at my desk right now. It even has the Lined Up (Disco Mix) which is the one I used to own on 12" when I was a little Bogie.
I am now very happy. :)
Couple of interesting little notes in the liner notes (do we still call them liner notes? I don't know). Seems that Neneh Cherry floated through the band at one stage. That means she was in The The and Shriekback. Hah, you learn something new everyday.
The second cool note was a reference to the style of music Shriekback plays. I had never heard this one before but I have to say it's the coolest. "Funk Noir". I love it. :D
"no money man
can win my love.
it's sweetness that i'm thinking of."
-she's one of the coolest.
'the the' is one of my 80's favorites, too.
SurlyOne 9-26-01, 01:25 PM Neneh Cherry was originally in a band called Rip Rig + Panic. If you're a fan of The Young Ones, go back and watch your tapes - they were on one of the episodes. She looked much different then!
