I am not the smartest tool in the shed so I am looking for some help. I have always bought my cd's but in the last 6 months I have been downloading songs from Morpheus. My questions are "Is there some type of software (freeware hopefully) that I need and can download to be able to burn them to a disc"? Also, "How can I tell if I have a CD-R and not just a plain CD drive"?. I was told by the person that gave me the computer that it could play DVD's as well as burn cd's...........but I can tell you right now that I have not been able to watch any movies with it. Just looking for some friendly help. Thanks in advance for anyones response. :thumb:

Before you can burn them, you will need to deocde them. I use Winamp, but there are many options. If you use Winamp, you can find a tutorial HERE! (http://www.fliptech.net/decode.shtml) It is relatively easy.

To find out what kind of CD drive you have, go to your desktop and right click on the 'My Computer' icon and go to 'Properties'. Now click on the 'Hardware' tab and in the top section of that screen you should see a button titled 'Device Manager' (click on it). Look down th elist and you should see something that says 'DVD/CD-ROM Drives'. Double click on it and if the drives say something to the effect of 'CDR' or DVD-R', then you have a burner.

if you're not sure, just post it here and I will let you know.

That Winamp tutorial said that it would read the mp3 and convert to wav.........I always thought that the advertisements for stereos that played "burned" cd's said they played mp3 files? Do I not understand something? I know that the songs I have downloaded from Morpheus are in the mp3 format.....after you burn them to a disc are they now called wav files? Sorry guys just looking for some Computer Lingo help.

P.S........Does anyone have a extra copy of Burning/Recording/Downloading for Idiots and Dummies? :bigcry:

Downloaded music is typically in an MP3 format and needs to be converted to a WAV file to play in most regular CD players. There are models out now that do play MP3's, but you would probably need to consult your user manual or look it up online to find out if yours does. If it does though, you would just need to burn the MP3's to a CD and you should be set.

Thanks Shakey.........My new stereo says it plays MP3 files so I guess I can go about burning them directly after downloading them. My only problem now is I did the Device Manager check like you had said and lo and behold...........it is only a piece of crap regular cd. Oh well, guess I will head to e-bay and check out the externals (they do still make those don't they). :dammit:
