View Full Version : How'd you get your handle, what does it mean?
bookmistres4ever 9-24-05, 06:38 AM This question probably has been asked before (because the board has been around a VERY long time, and I'd think everything was asked already at one time or another but anyways)
How'd you get your handle? What does it mean?
Some are obvious, I know, but others are a little more mysterious. Why did you pick your name?
Just curious.
Mine was a collaberation between my husband and I when we were first dating. I used to work at a library, and needed a new e-mail handle. He suggested bookmistress (and old-fashioned term for someone that takes care of books) and I really liked it. The handle was taken, so I just added the 4ever part, because, even though I no longer work in a library, I will always have an affection for books and the written word. So, that's my story, what's yours?
RetroMan 9-24-05, 06:48 AM Yes, you're right - that question has been asked many times before on the boards Bookmistress :) it never hurts to bring it up again for the new folks.
Mine is one of those that pretty much speaks for itself.
I am a man
I love eveything and anything 'retro'
simple :thumb:
I used to be known as "Poison Girl", but then decided I didn't like it anymore, plus everyone called me "PG" on the forums, so I shortened it to PG. :p
Prefab Sprouter 9-24-05, 06:58 AM Well mine speaks of the love I have for the music of the Band Prefab Sprout :D
"Harket" is the surname of the lead singer of A-ha :)
misterE is short for misterEeeeeeeevil!!!:p
Actually, my name is more of a play on words: misterE and mystery sorta sound the same.
Mine should be so painfully obvious. I'm a fan of Ronnie James Dio
Dio-Fan
Cool Hand Logan 9-24-05, 12:06 PM Cool Hand comes from the movie Cool Hand Luke and Logan comes from the movie Logan's Run. :)
I shake, therefore I am. :D
:shakey:
Metalfan83 9-24-05, 04:45 PM I'm a fan of Metal music, and I was born in '83.
So... there's my name. :D
KimJoy69 9-24-05, 05:08 PM Kim: First Name
Joy: Middle Name
69: :naughty: Need I Explain?? :p Just kidding, it's the year I was born. :D
Part of the reason that I use KimJoy is because one of my favorite uncles has called me that since I was a little kid. He always thought my full name was very pretty (Kimberly Joy) but was only called that name when I was in deep trouble! So he decided that I shall be called KIMJOY for always. At least by HIM, anyway! A lot of the rest of the family has picked it up as well. The 69 part, well I just DIG the fact that I was born in 1969 ...and the double meaning's kinda cool too! :sneaky:
My name is basically a shortened version of my name (Jeanette). When I first joined the board, I came on as jen85 (jen, being the nickname and 85 being the year I graduated from high school). I tried just "jen" but it was taken. When I realized I could add an asterisk and still be jen, I did. :)
nolanbuc 9-24-05, 05:54 PM My screenname is the one I use almost everywhere, it comes from a curious way may family has of nicknaming each other. Our last name is Buchanan(pronouced BUCKanan),so growing up we were "Nolanbuc" or "Mawbuc" for mom. Since Nolan was my first name, Nolanbuc was what everyone in the family called me. I know, it sounds redneck as can be, but at least they didn't call me Bubba.
But people call me Nolan, or Buc, or even Commish (I'm the fantasy sports commissioner), I will answer to them all. Just don't call me late for supper.
jillybean 9-24-05, 06:29 PM Mine is a nickname I've had since college. Many Jill's I know have been called that their whole life but I never was til college. It stuck and everyone calls me that.
Glenn Gulia 9-24-05, 08:12 PM I was watching the wedding singer the night i found the board. :goofy:
Topcat came from the cartoon of the same name. When I was young, it was one of my favorites. My friends call meTC. :)
Ayla is the main character in the Earth Children Series by Jean Auel........Clan of the CaveBear, Valley of the Horses, Mammoth Hunter etc etc
I have used this name since the first time i logged on the internet lol
Sometimes I use Ayla68 (year i was born) when the name is already taken.
wavemaster 9-24-05, 11:07 PM I had taken the handle from my alias I made up in the 90s when I was doing some sideline as a DJ, calling myself DJ Wavemaster. This is stemming from my favourite kind of music, Wave Pop, and some kind of hyping myself (that's where the "master" comes from). Can't be wrong to be a bit bigheaded sometimes.

My nickname means Whale in dutch. I picked it because my computer had this name in the time I first logged on to the xchange. All the comps had names of creatures living in the ocean and the network was called Aquarium. I use this nick now everywhere.

Mine is pretty boring. I was registering for this board and was about to type in my first name, Olivia when I chickened out thinking I shouldn't use my real name on a message board. I used Ava, which is my second name instead. I wish I had been more creative having seen some of the names used here on this site.
Caligula 9-25-05, 05:08 PM I also used my middle name

You could probably get one of the admins to change your name if you really wanted to.:)
stlkev70 9-25-05, 10:25 PM I may not be original but do you have ask how I came up with my screen name! My Name is Kevin, I was born in 1970 and I live in St. Louis. I have been on the internet since 1995 so I have used this name on pretty much every web site that I have signed up on!
I know, it sounds redneck as can be, but at least they didn't call me Bubba.
Hmmmmm.....Bubbabuc!
Not a PC thug 9-25-05, 11:57 PM I detest the whole PC movement, which I view is a product of the 90s.
Mine is a nickname given to me by my best friend. I love jasmine and I'm always wearing jasmine perfume or lotion. We just changed the spelling a little to make it reflect a little bit of my personality. lol I like to be a little different. ;)
Blurs&Stains 9-26-05, 02:51 AM I got mine from Hole's song "Use Once & Destroy".
ElectricYouth 9-26-05, 02:58 AM I got my username from the Debbie Gibson song of the same name, since I used to be Debbie Gibson obsessed. I've since moved onto other bands though, haha.
spudsoup 9-26-05, 10:27 AM Mine's a collaboration of my home province and my maiden name.
Mine is very obvious. Krull was a movie from 1983. It was one of the earlier movies I saw at the theaters as a child (Well it was practically a child's movie :p) But I like the movie and the memories that I finally chose the name. :D
There is a link of the movie on my signature... :contract:
frothy latte 9-26-05, 12:45 PM Mines pretty boring. I was just staring at my coffee.
Darkhaven 9-27-05, 07:06 PM Mines pretty boring. I was just staring at my coffee.
And I thought Diofan's crack on Nolanbuc was awesome  :thumb:
Mine's is my last name. I used to go by 'Plasmaelemental' when I first got on the internet ('cause I'm a big nerd and I roleplay way too much), but I got kinda bored with it.
