Lets, see.. What were my favorite clubs of the 80's.. I started going out around 1987 - alittle late (I was 16). But here are the ones I can remember (on Long Island): Heartbounds Images Danielle's Shalimar Chevy's Oak Beach Inn (OBI) The Salty Dog Hmm.. Those are the only ones I remember. And they were all dance music clubs.. There weren't many rock/metal clubs but I will name one that I remember: Sundance

The only club I used to go to was Club Babyhead (formerly The Rockit) and unfortunately this closed to make room for yet another gothic/rap/alternarock club!

hey we had a Chevy's too! It played a mixture of 60s,70s and 80s music and it had older people there when I was in my 20s so I didn't go often. Now there's nothing in my city that plays good 80s music, especially live bands. These were some of our clubs The Colson (awesome live rock bands) Norma Jeans (dance bar) Backstreets (dance bar) Mingles (dance bar) Cactus Petes O'tooles (wednesday night wing night and then dancing til close - what a combo) The edge - live rock bands Hmmm now I have the urge to go dancing lol

I've heard of an "O'tools" before.. Chevy's played 70's, 80's, and 90's over here in New York.. It was a very, very, very popular place and it was mostly a mid 20's to 30's crowd. The only club that MIGHT have been bigger would be the Oak Beach Inn (O.B.I.) but I doubt it was...

I was too young to go clubbing in the 80s, so I had to wait for a band to play an all ages show at one of these places. But I remember: Summers on the Beach The Pelican Club The Button South (still exists) The Iguana (Cantina...still exists) The Plus 5 Lounge The Roxy Baja Xanadu That's all I remember.

One thing I notice about night clubs is they were more friendly in the 80's.. Now, it's like a place of business. A real meat market without even hanging out with your friends in mind...

I haven't been to a club in some time but I agree with you about the "meatmarket" thing. The only good thing is because I wear metal shirts out when I'm not here at work nobody (men) ever bothered me...except for an occasional make up queen girl who stopped to make fun of me with her little friends. I really tend to think the older one gets the less interesting the club scene becomes...or at least this is my and many of my friends experience.

Well, that's definatly the case for me.. It's much less interesting than it was in the past. As for those dummies you like to make fun, screw 'em! :|

You got it..screw 'em...At least I do not need to hide who I am behind layer after layer of make up. There's nothing wrong with make up and it actually adds some good colour to women but some females I have seen overdo it way too much!! LOL Ever since the scene around here changed all music format to either: rap, r&b, alternarock or gothic it hasn't been a fun time for me and those who go with me. Then of course there was the brief "Swing" phase where most clubs who were spinning rap/goth/alternarock/r&b changed over to that...then went right back as soon as that trend left the scene. I'm sick of trends in this country.....

I agree with you on the too much make-up topic. Most guys consider that "hot" but I think it's alittle ridiculous.. I like a more natural look. Otherwise, the same thing happened here in New York. Everything went to R&B or HipHop. Fortunatly we have a couple of new dance stations in the area that break things up. No good rock stations, though. Well, I guess there are a couple but they only play old rock or, well, heh this new crap.. I dunno... :(

My best friend's ex-boyfriend used to work at one of these meat markets. On saturday nights we used to go there play pinball and make fun of the cubic zirconia queens that I swear must have been on the phone with each other for hours to figure out their wardrobes together. A friend of ours is having a hell of a time right now. He's been out of a long term relationship for almost a year now and he's looking for someone special again. He's been going to these clubs and comes home miserable. First of all these clubs cater to the 19-23 age group and he's 31 so thats the first problem and second of all I don't think clubs are the place to meet someone special. He came out with us on New Years and he's a very good looking man but the younger women that were at the pub are total snobs. Your right about people being much friendlier back then. I'm just glad I'm not out there again : )

Well, I understand how he feels.. I'm in the same situation - I'm 28.. I don't know.. Clubs are defintlay not the place to meet somebody good. It's all about games in those places! I think it's worse now than it was years ago...

How does one meet people in this day and time. He wants someone who's not into 'games' and other crap and also who is a professional (thats his preferences). I suggested he make an ad or respond to one - some friends have met very nice people that way but he's just not that ready yet lol. If something ever happens to my spouse i'm getting more cats and NOT going back out there - its cold lol.

Haha! Get more cats! Yeah, you would definatly be better off. There's nothing special out here in the cold!! :o

I wonder if people have become much more shy - plus they are all work-a-holics so they never get out to meet nice people ; ) Even for my husband and I we've got some terrific friends but its hard to meet other family people and couples to share in some interests. I'm dying for a game of Euchre lol.

Sal Collaziano
1-10-00, 08:21 AM
Euchre.. Okay! I have no idea what that is! Ahh hehe. Wierd, wierd, wierd! But, nah. I don't think people have become more shy.. I think they've become just the opposite. The only crowd that I could imagine becoming more shy is the computer crowd. The people who are really close with computer and internet chatting, etc will become more shy because while they are moving away from the outside, the outside people are gaining more control over it.. Life is odd! hehe That's been my saying lately. Hasn't it?

Wow Euchre must be a Can80ian past-time (minus 30 winters lol) Its a pretty cool card game best played with 4 people (two teams). You get rid of anything in the deck lower than a 8 (I think lol - thats why i need to play). Then you have bauers which are the jacks which are the highest card ie call hearts -jack of hearts, jack of diamonds, ace of hearts, king of hearts etc are the more powerful. The object is to (especially when calling it) get enough tricks to gain points - the opposing team is supposed to try and euchre you (one or no tricks for you) Its great and goes very well with Canadian beer : ) Your theory would explain a lot because our friend is a CAD technician and runs his business from home - all he does is work. Time to drag his butt out of the house lol

Euchre does sound like a fun game.. Just nobody in the United States to play it with! hehehe Well, atleast I don't know anyone who plays.. uhh! Hmm.. Yes, that's me too, lately.. All work and no play! hmm that sounds like the Shining! Yikes! hehe

Zel

lol irony of ironies - thats one of my favorite all time horror movies : ) "all work and no play makes johnny a dull boy"

Sal Collaziano

Actually, I will have to ask my friends.. They play poker alot.. So maybe they would have heard of it.. Iron of Ironies? What's that? A movie?

I lived in Braintre MA at the time, our club was called Club California, in Quincy. Others were Escapade in Weymouth and The Palace in Saugus (still exists). I miss walking into a place and knowing the majority of people there, like a second home. They closed Club Cal without any notice, leavin' us standing there in our harem pants wondering what to do with ourselves LOL Anyone from Boston in the 80's should remember the Floorlords, if you know where they are now please email me Gottapoint@aol.com. Thanks, Lisa

Well I had an awesome weekend. We went out last night and tried a new bar called "The Nightclub" It is a total 80s rocking kinda place. They have murals of rod stewart, bono and tina turner on their support columns and big 80s act posters everywhere. The band was playing acdc and it was great. One problem though, everyone there at least last night, were maybe 19.

Well, look at it this way.. They wouldn't be there if they didn't like it. So the 19 year olds are getting to hear some good stuff - maybe even new to them. The older crowd will follow - as soon as it learns of the place and understands they're not too old to go out!
