View Full Version : Stryper
Skyklad 11-19-99, 10:19 AM Anybody like Stryper? Whenever I reveal that I like this band I am met with discerning looks or remarks...what is so bad about them. I have the entire discography and although I've never liked the make up and spandex aspect of "Glam" rock I've found the music to quite enjoyable.
Sal Collaziano 11-19-99, 10:31 AM You know something? I haven't heard alot of Stryper. But, I have heard that they were a great band.. My ex-girlfriend use to like them. What are some of the really good songs? Maybe I can find them on the net and get a listen. Otherwise, the look of GlamRock was alittle odd. hehe But, the taste of the music was great. I think it was a really cool era. People were so much nicer back then. Now, everybodies a gangsta. Right? hehe Well, thanks for coming Skyklad. It's good to see ya. I hope you come by often and I hope there are more people for you to talk with very soon.. Take care...
Skyklad 11-19-99, 11:21 AM You should pick up this album sometime..it's awesome. It's my favourite Stryper recording and I've always found all the songs to constructed rather well. Soldiers Under Command is an awesome song...you should find some soundfiles and have a listen to this one sometime! As of now I've not seen any soundfiles for them..but nonetheless you can most likely find their recordings in the used bins at local record shops. I have had to replace mine several times and finding them for a couple dollars used has been good.
Sal Collaziano 11-19-99, 11:36 AM Hmm. Okay, thanks.. I will look for it on the net as soon as I get a chance.. I'm about to go get dinner and maybe get ready to go out tonight. So I will seeya soon! Okay? Byebye for now... And thanks again...

Not Man 11-19-99, 02:44 PM I personally liked The yellow and black attack. Don't get me wrong I do like SUC but there is something about their first that just....I don't know....kicks ass! :)
Sal Collaziano 11-19-99, 02:57 PM I will definatly have to get some Stryper.. It sounds like some cool stuff. :)
Skyklad 11-22-99, 05:55 AM I agree with "Not Man"....Yellow and Black Attack "kicks ass"!!! I would definitely recommend that one to you, Sal...
Sal Collaziano 11-22-99, 07:50 AM Alright, I will have to keep that in mind. I need to write these recommendations down! :) Thanks...
Marco S 11-29-99, 07:02 AM Hi, I think all albums by Stryper are great. Only the In god we trust album does have some (very)weak moments. But whatever anyone says or how they react without any regret you can listen and buy all the albums. About the looks well look at all these grunge bands that's a look too. If I have to make choice in visiting a conceert I know what's more value for my money.
Sal Collaziano 11-30-99, 01:59 AM Hi there, Marco S. Good to have ya! What other stuff are you into? Any favorites you care to mention? I still don't know alot about Stryper but I will look into 'em!
Marco S 12-02-99, 07:19 AM Hi sal, You name I'm into it when it comes to rock music. If it is AOR Metal I don't care as long as the music is ok. Of course I do have some favourites like white Lion, Icon, Steelhouse Lane, Van Halen, Yourney, etc.... All the solo albums of Michael Sweet from Stryper are very good. The first one is the more rocking one the last 2 are more acoustic but with high quality music. I do have about 5500 tiles in rock cd's and lp's. So if you wanna know something about a band or their music yopu can always ask
Sal Collaziano 12-03-99, 05:31 AM Hi, Marco! 5500 titles.. Jeez.. Ya know, I'm considered the Music Maniac by my friends. Imagine they found out about yous! I feel like just a little music guy now.. hehe
Girl From Room 7609 1-20-00, 07:22 AM Know what's really funny? I was at my friend John's house one night and I was helping him pack up everything in his closet for his move to North Carolina. Beneath all his crap we found a dusty shoe box. We opened it and among all the other junk there was one of the bibles that Stryper used to toss at their shows autographed by all the members. Turns out John used to work at Disney World back in '86 or so when Stryper would play "Grad Nite". He hung out with them and said they were not NEARLY as "goody two shoes" as some people thought. I have to agree with SUC. I think that was their best too.
Sal Collaziano 1-20-00, 06:04 PM Cool.. It's always nice to get some unknown information! hehe That bible must be worth a lot of money! :)
Rockergirl 2-11-00, 11:32 PM I LOVE Stryper!! Their best album in my opinion is TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL. And Michael Sweet's first solo CD was GREAT!!! That man has the most incredible voice I have ever heard.
Rockergirl, How is Michael Sweet's solo material? Anything like Stryper? Thanks :)
Rockergirl 2-13-00, 01:51 AM His first one is GREAT!! Sounds a lot like Stryper material. I don't remember the name, but it has the songs "Tomorrow Tonight" and "All This And Heaven Too". REALLY GOOD CD!! But the one after that kinda sucked actually. I would HIGHLY recommend his first one, though.
Cool thanks Rockergirl I'll have to look for some material by him. :)
AtelloBassist 2-14-00, 05:26 AM Hey Sal, it seems that everyone is forgetting to mention the last full studio CD, "Against The Law". While it was a failure in terms of sales, (the musical climate for such things had died by then) and the image they took on ( leather and the unshaven BUT COOL look), scared ALOT of fans off. Not being so hung up on the look and the message of Stryper, but into the INCREDIBLE musicianship, I thought it was their best effort. The tunes were well crafted, catchy, and for my tastes, not overly preachy. They also did a killer cover of "Shining Star" by the Commodores (of Motown fame) I'm sure you'll find it VERY easy to spot this CD in the bargain bin at your local store, I don't think it's been deleted from Enigma Records catolog yet, but you never know.... Rock on, R.A. www.Atello.com
Sal Collaziano 2-15-00, 03:32 PM Unfortunatly, I don't know much about Styper. By the time I got into music, they were basically gone.. I came from a very strict family and didn't really get to hear anything cool. When I did, I went totally nuts and listened to SOD, MOD, Suicidal Tendencies, Death, and then mellowing out into Metallica, King Diamond and Anthrax... So I'm alittle off when it comes to the subject of Stryper. However, I would like to buy and album or two.. Against The Law and To Hell with the Devil are on my list...
Shining Star was an 'Earth Wind and Fire' song and recently featured (EWF version) on the latest Muppets movie (Muppets from Space) and I would freak and start raving about Stryper while everyone told me to shut up cos they weren't interested. Also my favourite Stryper album was 'To Hell With The Devil' altho for me 'Y&BA' and 'SUC' and even 'IGWT' all had some amazing songs on them. I hated 'Against The Law' though - just a complete musical direction change that did not work for me personally. I saw Stryper once live at London's Hammersmith Odeon in 1987 and we were all stunned at what a powerful entertaining band this was. They even did a brief Metallica take-off (showing how easy it was to turn their hand to the simple thrash riffing - this in the days of thrash v glam, but that is all in the past now) and it had all the audience cheering. You didn't have to be a Christian to love this band - my friends were all athiest and it never put them off. Loved this band - are they still out there? I think they might be.
Poison PJ 3-20-00, 03:27 AM I Think "Against The Law" is by far the best Stryper album. The title track totally Kicks @$$. "Lady" is one of the best ballads ever written by the band. "Two Bodies (One Mind One Soul)" is their best song. So anyone who thinks this is there worst album isn't a true fan of rock.
