Hi All! Don Dokken was one of my favorite hard rockers of the eighties and I really wish I could say I have seen him live with Dokken, but alas I wasn’t able to get to any shows of thiers…But I did get the albums…I liked “Dream Warrior” and “Into the Fire” “Breaking the Chains,” “Alone Again” my favorite ballad by them I am gonna add to the ballads topic cuz I think it needs to be there…

Was "Dream Warriors" a song in one of the Freddy Krueger Nightmare on Elm Street movies? If so, that's another Dokken song that I know (and like). The other is "In My Dreams"...

No, I never saw the video! Sucks.. I never see any Dokken "Where Are They Nows" or "Behind the Musics". Why is that?!

Dokken was one if not THE ultimate melodic rock guitar bands of the 80's.....Even George Lynch's Lynch Mob in the early 90's was great, and in some aspects, even better! At least until he rejoined Dokken, made two crapy CD's with them, and then reformed a "new and improved" Lynch Mob that had more in common with Korn, than the original Lynch Mob, which spawned great songs like "Wicked Sensation", and "Dream Until Tomorrow". My band ATELLO opened up for the latest version of Lynch Mob last year, and after the first song or two, people were walking out of the club in droves! We did our sound check that night with "Wicked Sensation", and it turned out to be the ONLY original Lynch Mob song played in the club that night! However, Dokken is back on the right track with "Erase The Slate" with Reb Beach (Winger) on the guitar.....he has, without a doubt, brought Dokken back to it's original melodic sound. While I haven't seen them live with Reb, I have seen them in the clubs with George, and originally on the Monsters Of Rock tour in '88...and oh yeah, they have a live CD comming out soon...it should be nothing short of incredible with Reb putting a twist on George's stuff, since George himself doesn't seem to want to play them any more! My personal favorite Dokken song - Heaven Sent, from "Back For The Attack" R.A. www.Atello.com

WOO HOO!!! I am glad I wasn't the only one who loved the songs this band put out! "It's not Love" was a awesome tune..."In my Dreams" Sigh....That is a great song too!!! All of them rock and I don't know why we never see a vh1 special with them as they were one of the best bands of the 80's...

Well, I'm glad to hear that Dokken is playing good music again. I hope they can influence some more new bands to play good music. All the hairmetal bands from the 80's are getting a bit old. So it's the new blood that we need to start moving..

Hi all.

Dokken were seriously one of my favourites too. I loved the 'Tooth and Nail' album, but it was only a taster of what was to come with 'Under Lock and Key' truly one of the 80's best albums by a melodic (or 'hair' metal as people seem to call them here) rock band. That album was hardly off me and my friends turntables back then and the band was surely destined to break into the big league. The release of 'Dream Warriors' from the Krueger soundtrack consolidated this feeling, but then the slightly disappointing (in places) 'Back for the Attack' and the bands constant and well-publicized internal in-fighting (mainly between George and Don - battle of egos) led to their fall from grace and subsequent fairly lacklustre releases. What a shame. Great band though. Later.

Hi T100!

You're absolutely right about the internal conflicts ending and killing the band's ability to continue to rise to superstardom...I often wonder what could have been and the echoes "In my Dreams..." are "Heaven Sent..." Dream Warriors was both a great movie and kick tail tune IMHO...

I am gratified to see so many others recall fond memories when hearing THIS band's stuff one the radio, which thankfully here in Tampa we got a station that does "Perfect Hair" and that is why I refer to them as hair bands and this forum says Glam as it was about the image back then wasn't it?

Hi Blaziegrl!

Yeah, I went from not working at all last year, (my son is three now so I feel it is time to go back to working now that he is in the Pre-Kindergarten classes during the day and all) to working part time 4 days a week to full at 6 days a week...As you can guess I am really tired at the end of the day and I haven't made it out to the Xchange for over a week or so, but I hadn't forgot all you great folks!!!

Keep ROCKING!!!!

I was fortunate enough to see DOKKEN on the SHADOWLIFE tour. They only played 2 new songs, which was nice. They played for a total of about 2 hours. All the hits were covered, and George was AWESOME. They were one of my favorite bands from the 80s and I was glad I was able to see the original lineup before things really went south for the band. Now they have Reb Beach of WINGER fame, and thier last CD called "erase the slate" went back to thier late 80s sound. Dons voice was as strong as ever, and the guitar work was superb. Check out
w.metalsludge.com (http:www.metalsludge.com )for some interesting interview with both Don, George, and Jeff Pilson, the bassist. They are listed under the 20 questions section. GREAT site if you have never seen it. They poke fun at a lot of the late 80s bands especially the HAIR BANDS. Check it out!

Ron

Seen them on the rock never stops tour in 97, funny that they would make fun of the hair bands since their touring with Poison, Cinderella and Slaughter this summer

Hi Pam

That 'Perfect Hair' show on your local radio station sounds cool - does it play all the bands like Dokken, Poison, Kiss, Stryper, Cinderella etc etc?? None of that stuff would ever get played on radio over here. Such a shame that Dokken's infighting led to their lack of success. They had it all and practically threw it away. For me 'In My Dreams' is my favourite Dokken song - the harmony's are exquisite and I think it's one of the best songs ever written. Even that dance version released by 'The Party' (back in about '92) couldn't ruin it (actually it was quite good!). Did you ever hear that one?

I saw them live in 1986 on the 'ULAK' tour, opening for 'Accept' in Manchester (England). We had to get the mail train back at 4am, sitting amongst bags of letters and parcels *lol*. The things you will do for a great band. Completely worth it. What a great show. I can still remember Jeff's posing and pouting and working over the crowd on his side of the stage.

Actually 'hair bands' is quite a good description. For me it was about the image AND the music. The two combined. I mean who wants to see a bunch of guys in T-shirts and jeans just standing there..... well, today's youth it seems. A real shame. The hair metal bands worked so much harder at the 'total package' than todays bands. God do I sound old? *LOL*.
