View Full Version : What song(s) were you raised on?
Amy Livin 2-11-00, 11:59 AM Ok, well I kjnow that for most of you it's mostly what song did you grow up on but anyhow. See, I was raised on Livin On A Prayer by Bon Jovi since I was 2. Everything I am is mostly because of that song (or at least Bon Jovi). And also the entire Black Album from Metallica played a big role but that was later. Anyhow, tell me what songs made you you. Take care peeps.
Sal Collaziano 2-11-00, 12:58 PM What songs made me, me.. Hmm.. This isn't an easy one. I liked so many different kinds of musics.. I think I will let a few others answer this first and then I will throw something in here too....
I was born in 1968 so the music I was raised on is quite diverse. My Dad loved music and I remember listening to Elvis Presley and Chubby Checker alot. My dad was also into country so I heard alot of Hank Snow (ug) Loretta lynn & Conway Twitty (I loved him). Then it was tons of Disco.......Donna Summer, Village People, Hot Chocolate etc ABBA was BIG! But the 80's were my favorite, it created memories for me that will last a lifetime :) (I'm also very fond of the 60's Woodstock era)it was all of the music, not just certain songs that remind me of my childhood. Ayla
God that is such a hard question to pin down LOL. Like Ayla I was born in the 60s too - 1969 and my parents were coming from two different music choices as well. My dad was and is very into big band (glenn miller, count basie, ella, etc) classical music (Boston Pops). My mother was the Beatles, Elvis, John Lennon, John Denver, Eagles, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, George Jones). Lets just say car trips were brutal - I was right into The Who, Stephanwolf, Doors, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, (older cousin influence). Then I got into Billy Squier, The Police, Joan Jets, Golden Earring, Toronto, Alda Nova, Foreighner, REO etc. Then Howard Jones, A-ha, and Frankie came along and the rest is history. My fondest memories are the music of the 80s up to about 86 but I go with the flow - White Snake, Bon Jovi, Poison, Cinderella, Vixen, Lita Ford etc. My music history is diverse. lol
Ayesakara 2-13-00, 06:51 AM Before Poison came into my life.... way before then, the music that I grew up on was Madonna, some Pet Shop Boys and a little Sister Sledge even. Some other names that come to my mind are... F. R. David, Ronnie Milsap, Bangles, Bananarama and stuff like that. :)
Sal Collaziano 2-13-00, 08:22 AM I really cant pick particular songs that I was raised on. When I got into about 7th grade I started listening to music and I liked alot. If the question was BANDS, that would be easier! :)
I was raised on all the early 80's metal music, esspecially those played on MTV ( when they played good videos!!! ) mostly. and tapes that my dad was into ( cyndi lauper, duran duran, metallica, tears for fears) and other 80's music, I guess that's why I love 80's so much!!!
Princessofevil 3-01-00, 12:29 PM Poison is what I was raised on and who I still love. Of course, it's hard for me to imagine them to
be without C.C. again but I have faith in my boys. The 80's rocked and Poison was right there with me all the way
Sal Collaziano 3-01-00, 01:36 PM Hi, Princessofevil! Wait a sec.. Didn't you hear the news? CC is back in Poison again.. So you don't have to imagine it without him! Unless... You know how this crazy music world works... Is he out again?! He was back in like a week ago.......
Mirdonamy 3-02-00, 06:01 AM When I was little, I was raised on a mix of Queen, Bowie, The Beatles and Dr.Demento stuff. I was born in '77, and my family was not into classic rock. I got into that on my own when I was in middle school/high school. The songs I remember most were: Ziggy Stardust (album), The Beatles "Penny Lane, Hey Jude, Octopus's Garden" Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Radio Gaga, Bohemian Rapsody (i am sick of that song), and We are the Champions" Bowie: EVERYTHING! I raised myself on Madonna's Madonna, Like a Virgin, and True Blue albums, Cyndi Lauper everything, and Prince. When I was 9 I brought Def Leppard into my every minute existance and followed that with Janet Jackson, Salt N Pepa, Nenah Cherry, Young MC, Beastie Boys, and Run DMC. Then Janet's "Black Cat" made me remember how much guitars help music...so I entered the realm of Glam! Hee hee hee.. I had many great MTV years from day one (8/1/81) to late 1991. I was a music lovin' child!
Poison PJ 3-09-00, 07:27 AM As my user name suggests, I was raised on a healthy diet of Bret, Bobby, C.C., & Rikki. "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" pretty much sums up my love life. "Nothin' But A Good Time" & "Let It Play" are my main anthems. And "Cry Tough" is my song of hope when I feel like giving up.
Gotta tell this one...I can remember when I was about 3, my mom & dad would tuck my brother & me in the bed, then retreat to the living room, where they turned down the lights & played Bellamy Bros & Freddy Fender records. Hmmm, wonder what they were doing?!
My parents had a few Freddie Fender albums but I never equated it with that
My parents listen to oldies and old country so that doesn't count. I grew up on in order Wham and Duran Duran, Bon Jovi the Poison.
I used to listen to Open Up all day long and its still my favorite album.
Sal Collaziano 3-26-00, 06:37 PM I hope you don't listen to "Cry Tough" all that often, PJ...
Poison PJ 3-27-00, 03:43 AM Don't worry Sal, The last time I listen to
Poison PJ 3-27-00, 03:44 AM Don't worry Sal, The last time I listen to "Cry Tough" to pick me up was more the two years ago.
Life's been good to me alot lately.
I'm with you Sal....I was born in 1971....grew up listening to Joplin, Hendrix, Zep. Then when I was in high school I started my band phase (been playing guitar now for at least 12 Years), and got into the wonderfull world of Hairbands.
And still to this day I'm stuck in the 80's genre ;o)

Gee! I grew up on an array of music thanks to my parents. KISS, Meatloaf, Police, Gary Numan, Queen, Suzi Quatro, Status Quo, Cheap Trick, Blondie, The Eagles as well as the Smurfs and the Chipmunk albums I had ( don't laugh you guys I still have those albums). Then it went on to Adam Ant, Duran Duran, Culture Club and all the other early 80s music, pre '86. Later on it included The Doors, The Beatles, The Who, Led Zepplin, Metallica, Beastie Boys and so on. At the other end of the scale there was Sam Cooke, Beach Boys, Buddy Holly, and other 50s and 60s stuff. So i grew up with a lot and a wide range of music. Not any particular songs though, too many to mention.
Sheribub hang on to that Chipmunks album. its gotta be a collectors by now. My friend had it and used to play it all the time
Alvin..

No question about it...."Rock & Roll All Nite"
Zel! Don't worry I ain't lettin' it go. I had another one where they did their versions of Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen, Refugee by Tom Petty, Still Rock 'N' Roll To Me by Billy Joel, Call Me by Blondie and so on. But it was thrown out!! But I still have the Urban Chipmunk album. I also had a tape but can't remember what was on it. Oh and Pagan... I also love that song!!
Sheibub I just realized I was calling you Sheribob. Sorry about that but your name is so close to what I used to call one of my 80s buddies that I read the name but spelt it wrong
Not to worry Zel! A lot of people still misspell my real name: Sharee, Cherie, Sherree, Sherrie, aargh!! It's Sheree, Sheree, Sheree! My nickname is Sheibub. I get called Bub or Shei so I put them together and get Sheibub. My family hardly ever call me Sheree anymore.
