View Full Version : Where did you get it from?
Sal Collaziano 12-08-99, 02:23 AM Okay.. Where did everyone get their names from? I'm curious.. I just use my last name in shortened form... I take Muay Thai Kickboxing so when I write "Claziano" on my gloves and gear it looks cool.. Soughta sounds like Graziano, huh? hehe :) (in case you didn't know, Rocky Graziano was a great boxer many years ago...)
Skyklad 12-08-99, 07:04 AM My name comes from my favourite band EVER: SKYCLAD!!! I just changed the c to a k for a more unique spelling.....
bonbonstomp 12-08-99, 09:37 AM Hi Everyone.....I'm the newbie here. My name's Bonnie, just call me Bon. Got my name from my crazy boyfriend, partly cause I love Ozzy's Zombie Stomp, but mostly cause every other dang name was already taken. I've been reading some of the posts and you all sound like a cool bunch of people who share my love of the 80's.
Not Man 12-08-99, 12:20 PM I took my username from my favorite metal band <img src=http://www.netexp.net/~delpi/anthrax_logo.gif> (pre-Bush) They had a character called "The Not Man". I thought it would be cool to use it. Hey Sal.....That is some intense kickboxing you do. I've seen some matches on ESPN. Wasn't that what the movie Bloodsport with Jean Claude VanDamme based on?
Sal Collaziano 12-08-99, 02:30 PM Hi, Bon! And welcome! This certainly is a great bunch of people here.. But what would you expect from a crowd of 80's people? :) It's great to have another one of 'us'. :) I hope you're around often... Did you know that if you had registered LOCALLY you could have used whatever name you liked? If you'd like, you can create a new account and sign on as LOCAL. Otherwise, Notman. I've always wondered where Anthrax got that name from - Notman. What is he? Who is he? What does he do? Any ideas? hehe Otherwise, yes, Muay Thai kickboxing is pretty rough. The difference between Muay Thai and regular Kickboxing is #1 Conditioning (A whole 'nother ballgame), #2 the use of knees and elbows (highly illegal in the regular kickboxing sport), and #3 - well, you get beat up alot more. Are you interested in any martial arts? They're a really great thing when you're disiplined... I've taken Tae Kwon Do (it's okay), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (very rough ground fighting), and Wing Chun Kung Fu! Wing Chun is amazing! I don't think I'll be taking Wing Chun anymore, though, because I have very limited time these days. It's unfortunate because it's one of the most interesting martial arts you could ever learn...
Ayesakara 12-09-99, 05:11 AM My nick Ayesakara comes from my Poison Powerchick character. *LOL* A lot of us Poison fans go to this chatroom on DALnet called #PoisonTalk every Wed night at 9 pm EST. Sometime last year, a bunch of us came up with the idea of creating Super-women characters (comic book style of course) of female die-hard Poison fans who would "Live to defend the men they love, i.e. the guys in Poison".... All the girls submitted their ideas of what they wanted THEIR character to do, their special power, physical characteristics etc. and one talented fan among us who's called Katarah (another powerchick, yes) made their very cool drawings and all. She is VERY talented and the artwork is fit to be part of a successful comic series. I came up (with Kat's help) with the name Ayesakara for my Powerchick since my real name is Ayesha, and Ayesakara's characteristics are that she has the power to teleport herself anywhere and she can speak all the languages of the Universe. :-) For a while, no one has spoken about the Powerchicks but most of us still use the nicks, hoping that may be someday we will come up with a storyline and write their story or something. :-) You can check out all the Powerchicks here: <A HREF=http://members.wbs.net/homepages/k/a/t/katarah.html >http://members.wbs.net/homepages/k/a/t/katarah.html </A> Let me know if you can open that link ok..... See ya!!!
Sal Collaziano 12-09-99, 05:15 AM Damn! That link didn't work! I'm really interested in checking it out! :) Very cool... :) You's should make a comic so I can post it up on the web here. :)
Ayesakara 12-09-99, 05:18 AM Oops, may be she has moved the page. I'll ask her and then post the new URL, whatever that is. If you are interested, you can check out MY Powerchick at my WHO.AM.I section on my Bobby site: <A HREF=http://dall.virtualave.net >http://dall.virtualave.net </A> See ya! :-)
Sal Collaziano 12-09-99, 05:51 AM Cool :) Nice page and a cool drawing. :) Lemme ask, though.. What is the "Commerce" about? I'm curious...
Ayesakara 12-09-99, 06:08 AM Well, I don't about your country, but in Pakistan, we have a bach. degree in commerce. Its sorta like a business faculty. I majored in the commerce subjects, when I did my bachelors, thats all :) Is that what you wanted to know about?
dagreek 12-09-99, 06:09 AM Plain and simple i got my name from my background which is greek. And instead of saying The Greek which sounds lame i put Da instead of The infront of Greek. So there you have it Da Greek.
Mirdonamy 12-09-99, 07:10 AM Mirdonamy is the name of my spider. He is no longer alive, but in my signature. I even have a tattoo of him. If you want to learn more about Mirdonamy go to <A HREF=http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Museum/9246/mirdonamy.html >http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Museum/9246/mirdonamy.html </A> Mirdonamy has become my trademark. I am known by everyone as Mirdonamy, for the essence of my spider lies within my every word and every thought. I have even registered www.mirdonamy.com I miss my spider so much, but he'll never be forgotten.
Mirdonamy 12-09-99, 07:11 AM PS. The image you see on the left is my tatto with Mirdonamy at the bottom :)
Sal Collaziano 12-09-99, 08:13 AM Okay, Ayesakara. :) That explains it! :) Dagreek, I figured that's what it was... And Mirdonamy - that's a cool story - I went and took a look. You never had to worry about Mirdonamy in your bed and rolling over on him or anything? Hehe. Did he always hang out in the same place?
Not Man 12-09-99, 12:32 PM I'm not really sure on this Sal....I'll try to find out what the scoop is on him. I always wanted to take up some form of martial art....but was never to sure on what to take. I mostly rely on the "intimidation" factor. I'm 6'5" and about 325 lbs. If that doesn't work then look out....LOL :)
Sal Collaziano 12-10-99, 02:58 AM Okay, thanks, Notman.. I've always wondered what those "NOT" hats meant in school.. hehe Otherwise, yeee! 6'5" / 325lbs. Big! Now imagine if you took some lessons in martial arts. A few months of Muay Thai or even just regular boxing would do you good forever... But do you need it? Probably not. It's a nice feeling to know it though...
Mirdonamy 12-10-99, 04:05 AM Mirdonamy lived on my ceiling. He never really visited the floor, bed or walls. He had a web in the corner of my room that he guarded well. I felt safe from mosquitos and other creepies while he was around. I was always upset to go to sleep if I didn't see him. I guess I am lucky to have such a love for spiders. They are such wonderful things!
Sal Collaziano 12-10-99, 05:01 AM It's wierd (and cool!) that you like 'em! Most people consider THEM to be the creepies! :o How long did he hang (no pun intended) around for?
Mirdonamy 12-11-99, 12:36 PM Well over a year...but he'd only come out once in a while...mostly he hid or roamed around. I think he came out each day, but I wasn't around to see. I only saw him around for about 7 months myself (if you added the time up)...somehow
Sal Collaziano 12-12-99, 08:31 AM He must have thought it was pretty cool that nobody bothered him!
Ayesakara 1-02-00, 04:18 AM OK Sal, I got the new URL for the Powerchicks page I was talking about. Its not really new, the wbs people shifted it slightly.... they had a merger or something.... whatever.. ;-) Its now located at <A HREF=http://members.wbs.net/homepages/k/a/t/katarah/katarah.html >http://members.wbs.net/homepages/k/a/t/katarah/katarah.html </A> Let me know what you think...
Sal Collaziano 1-03-00, 02:14 AM I saw! Pretty cool! That girl drew all of those? It must've taken some time.. How's the comic thing going? That would be kinda cool. Ya know? The characters seem really interesting. Do you's still meet in IRC? I thought I remembered seeing a bigger picture of you, though.. You must have another that you showed me. Right?
Ayesakara 1-03-00, 06:57 AM Yes, Kat drew them all. It all started sometime in mid 1998. Went on for about 6-8 months. She has stopped drawing them now, cause it became too much for her and well, we thought, we had made enough characters for a comic series :).... The storyline is..... not being followed at the moment. We still meet at IRC (I am not ULTRA-regular at the moment, but I do make it once in a while)..... its a very cool chatroom..... but we are hoping that one day, we will sit down and discuss this in a chat session, modify some of those powers, make a plot. :) I already know how I will meet Poison. I'll 'transport' myself to USA.. (since I can't afford a plane ticket) LOL.. that's why I gave myself those powers.... and well, I am somewhat multi-lingual, so.... lol.... Yes, you saw the bigger picture of my character on my bio page on the Bobby site. Kat is so talented! SHe made us all proud!!! :)
Sal Collaziano 1-04-00, 04:03 AM Why don't yous get together in the voice room sometime? The one at the front page of this website works pretty well.. It's just like using a CB... Did you get to see any VH1 this past weekend? Do you get it over there? There were alot of 80's "Where Are They Now"'s and Poison was in it...
Ayesakara 1-04-00, 06:17 PM Unfortunately, we don't get VH1 here. :-( But I got a copy of the Behind the Music on Poison from a friend! It rocked! The Voice chat sounds cool! :-)
Sal Collaziano 1-05-00, 06:09 AM Cool - glad ya got that Behind the Music video! It's a shame that we mostly only have memories, though.. But atleast they're there.. Hopefully, there's still a future for our favorite kind of stuff. Otherwise! Definatly check out the VoiceChat. It's nice and easy to use. :) And it's free! So what the heck! hehe
Blaziegirl 1-05-00, 06:12 PM Gee I'm a little late for this one.. I couldn't think of a good name at the time, So I took my dogs name. Blaze is my lovable and very overly protective german shepherd whom I always call blaziegirl. <img src=http://www.animfactory.com/animgifs/misc/nature2/redroseCLR.gif>
Sal Collaziano 1-06-00, 04:06 AM Well, that's a cool name anyways! I did the same thing a few years ago when I first got my old Commodore Amiga 500. I just picked anything. My name was stupid though. Blaziegrl has a nice ring to it. :)
My name has been shortened over time. In highschool my pen name for writing was Zelda Pinwheel - my aunt called me that or Moonbeam from the time I was little. Unfortunately people see a name and they like so they steal it and on a couple of memberships I've been to someone else has had it (major bummer) so to make typing and life easier I'm now just plain ole Zel : )
Sal Collaziano 1-06-00, 05:43 AM Somebody stole "Zelda Pinwheel"? Is that a character from a story or something?
You know what I'm not exactly sure. My Aunt who was a bit of a hippie called me that and in 28 years I'd never heard of anyone else with a nickname remotely close. Then I got the net and started hitting message boards and a year later this name is everywhere.
Sal Collaziano 1-07-00, 04:06 AM Hmm.. Maybe you've just finally stumbled upon some fans of the 60's! Did you ever do a search for the name? I bet something would pop up! If that's not that case then people are just stealing your name! You need to trademark it! :)
I'm sure my aunt must have heard it from somewhere lol - maybe its some form of lsd or exstasy drug -who knows she was cool but pretty trippy at times lol
Sal Collaziano 1-07-00, 05:33 AM Hahahaha! She sounds like a very fun person to be around! hehe
