Okay, so.. Here I am.. I had a very strict father so I didn't have much music interest until I was in about 7th grade.. Before that, I like Michael Jackson (because of Thriller and Beat It) and Wierd Al Yankovich because he was a wacko. I guess what added to it was the fact that I started listening to some free music video show like MTV and they had videos from Huey Lewis and the News (Wierd Al did "I Need A New Duck) so.. hehe Oh, by the way. I did like Huey Lewis and the News.. Heart of Rock 'n Roll? Come on, that was great.. There was alot that I liked back then (Addicted To Love, I loved that stuff too). But! What really stood out was Twisted Sister! I loved them! I Wanna Rock and We're Not Gonna Take It! Too much! I was almost hooked!! Then, my uncle (a lawyer) introduced me to Ozzy Ozbourne! Woah!! I Don't Know?! Crazy Train?! Bark At The Moon?!?! Holy, God! I was REAL hooked! Okay, then came another band.. S.O.D. Stormtroopers of Death. Hmm.. This was different! It helped me get out some anger and worked well while I was weight training! :) :) :) Hmm. What was next? Oh.. Well. What was next? hehe I heard Master of Puppets! Yes.. Metallica! I bought all of their albums the next day.. Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightening, Master of Puppets, Garage Days, and shortly later And Justice for All (their last really good album). But there were others in there as well like Anthrax's Fistful of Metal. Then their Among The Living!! I really like that one! Then the one with AntiSocial on it.. I forget the name of that album but I really like that one as well. Persistance of Time stunk, and I didn't buy any more after that because they changed singers. But, I have Spreading the Disease and Attack of the Killer B's as well (old singer)... Actually, Fistful of Metal was a different singer too, but Joey sounded just like him anyway... Okay, so what happened then? The guido scene hit New York hard! Being Italian, I went out and bought Z Cavariccis, decks (Keds) and gold chains, and I.O.U. sweatshirts. :) I was all interesting. But the music was great too. All of that dance music. I really actually love it. There's way too much to get into; just way too much. But I love it. Freestyle being my favorite (Latin Freestyle, not rap), then Techno/Progressive, House, etc... During that time I found another interesting Metal band that I would like.. King Diamond. To make a long story short, I have every King Diamond and Merciful Fate album made. Now, on with my story.. Let's see. Well, we're going back alittle bit here... Back to December 3, 1989. I started dating my dreamgirl, Tina. I wont bore you with the details but we split up in October of 1996 and she is what lead me to my love of GlamRock. It was her favorite when we first started dating. Now, I wont go to long on this one either. I liked it ALL. All, okay? Especially the ballads because they had reminded me of her... I realized that the music was really great. Slaughter; When I Look Into Your Eyes, Love of a Lifetime.. Bon Jovi; Never Say Goodbye, Livin' On A Prayer, I'll Be There For You.. Skid Row; I Remember You - forget it. I can go on forever... But these songs touched my heart and I love 'em.. Even more than my favorite Freestyle Dance... There's just way more feeling to them... Where do I stand now? I've been staying away from the Heavy Metal because it has me in a bad mood sometimes. Hey, I'm Italian. I have alot of testosterone, okay? hehe Sometimes it's just a better idea that I don't listen to it! Hmm.. Dance music, well, I haven't had much of it in my car because there is a radio station that plays it now.. So that's cool.. I do bring my GlamRock music with me, though. That's probably what I listen to the most these days... Well, I wonder if I've left anything out... Have I? hehe Well, that's one of my stories... Sorry!! :o

No bad musical choices you got Claziano. FYI- the name of the cd with "Antisocial" is State of Euphoria and Anthrax's first singer was Neil Turbin.

Thanks, Not Man!! State of Euphoria.. Yeah, I liked it! And yes, Neil Turbin.. You know that was the first Anthrax album I bought. I loved "Eighteen". I didn't realize until years later that the singer was different from all the other albums! Wierd! :)

Kinda funny in a way but the first time I heard Anthrax I thought they were awful....but I have most definitely changed my opinion about them now.....that is older Anthrax. BTW did you know Alice Cooper did "I'm eighteen" originally.

Sal Collaziano

Yes, I actually knew that but I only know that song and "Poison" from Alice Cooper. The original "Eighteen" was alittle too slow for my tastes, though... :|

I've been an Alice Cooper fan for sometime now. You don't like him? He's kind of an aquired taste. I recently bought his box set "The life and crimes of Alice Cooper"....a must for any fan.

I will have to check out some Alice Cooper. I liked Poison alot so I don't see why I wouldn't like other songs by him. I just haven't heard much. Maybe I'll get that pack you got when I see it.. Is it new?

I believe it was released in April of this year. When I bought it was around $60 but like anything else if you wait long enough you can get it a lot cheaper.

Well that doesn't sound too bad. I am definatly interested in hearing the music. Alice Cooper has a huge following. Even bigger than King Diamond who has a very huge following in his own subject... Thanks...

I started out with David Bowie and Queen (along with songs from cartoons and kids movies)... At age 4 I got into MTV (it had just started), and boy was it fun to dance in the living room floor with my dad each night to the Buggles, Duran Duran, Missing Persons, and more! My first tapes were Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, and Wham. I then got Prince and Def Leppard. By the time I was 9 I was mostly interested in Madonna, Def Leppard, and Bowie. Then began the awesome Roller Skate music of the mid/late 80s: Shannon, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Shiela E, and more! Soon I grew into a new era: rap...Run DMC, Salt & Pepa, Beastie Boys, Young MC, and Nenah Cherry took over my life. That ended quickly through Janet Jackson's Black Cat...I went back into rock (how odd). Anyhow, glam took over, and lasted a long time. I knew nothing but metal/glam/rock. Well, this led to the root of music...classic rock (Floyd, Zeppelin, Rush, and the beatles)...and others of course! This lead to grunge, which lead back to metal, which lead to industrial, which lead to techno, which lead to ambiant/dance, which lead me back to 80s dance/synth... Oh how I missed it!

Hi there, Mirdonamy! You sound like a writer or something. hehe Welcome to 80'sXChange! :) All those tastes you've mentioned, I like as well. Except for the older rock; I still haven't heard alot of it. I've been looking to buy a copy of Pink Floyd "The Wall" for the past couple of months but just haven't gotten around to it. Actually, you reminded me. :)

Oh Claz, you need Floyd in your life...NEED!!!! I am as glam and dance-y as the next person, but my blood doesn't run without Floyd at least once a week! No drugs, just music for me! Anyhow, I suggest "Dark Side of the Moon" for your first album, but "The Wall" is awesome too. I don't know. Just copy them all from a friend, and buy your favorites (with me, that meant the Boxed Set with the naked woman on the cover). I also have the Division Bell. Anyhow, enough Floyd. I really love your tastes, and I want to add to the Alice Cooper discussion if I may: for anyone who even remotely likes Alice Cooper, go rent or buy the Welcome to my Nightmare LIVE video collection. He is not only a singer, but an amazingly freakish actor! Ah, gotta go...at work. Bye now more later :)

Dark Side of the Moon. Right! That's the one I want first... Hmm.. I will get it as soon as I see it in a store. That will make me remember.. :)

Hi all, I'm new here but thought this sounded like a cool post to add to. As best as I can remember, my music history goes back to around 6th grade (when I really became aware of the radio, top 40, etc.) We moved to Az. in '79 and a friend used to listen to the Top 40 countdown. In that year, the 3 top songs were My Sharona, Sad Eyes and Pop Muzik. I spent much of those first few years just listening to the TOP 40 radio songs but then around 8th-9th grade, I started listening to Adam Ant and really got into his stuff. From there, it progressed to being a big Prince fan (including all his offshoots). That stuck for awhile and then I discovered 80's rap (Run DMC, Kurtis Blow, early Cool J.) I also started going to teen dance clubs where rap, top 40, and Freestyle were played. Now, as an adult, my music tastes are a mish mash of stuff, though I prefer to listen to what I grew up with... for me, the 80's music wasn't just one certain style of music and that's what makes it such a good era for music. I have comp. tapes that have new wave, punk, rap, Air Supply, R&B, metal, and top 40.... it really was a great time for music.

Hey, Vince! Welcome to the board :) Yes, the 80's were a great mix.. Anything that I didn't happen to like back then is miles ahead of most music now. It really was a great time for almost everything. LL Cool Jay. Hehe, I haven't heard him in awhile.. I think I will go look for some MP3's tonight. Thanks for reminding me! :)

Zel, I loved StreetHeart and have seen them tons, also got to meet Kenny Shields and Matt Frenette (also with Loverboy, Kim Mitchell and Tom Cochrane) Matt still remembers me when I see him, last time being a few years ago at The Calgary Stampede with Loverboy. Skinny Puppy was a little out there but I really liked them. Ayla

Hey Skinny Puppy has been here too! We used to follow Honeymoon Suite and Kim Mitchell around because Honeymoon Suite was out of Barrie and Kim Mitchell was always in Hamilton - I miss those days. The last time I saw Kim Mitchell he was touring with The Pursuit of Happiness and they put on an awesome show - for patio lanterns the band came out with mini guitars, pianos and drums and played the song and TPOH got into the act too it was great. I'm really mad at our city promoters though because they keep missing really good acts and we are right on the TransCanada Hiway :( Although I think we have a bad reputation here now too because when Bryan Adams came here in 89 people threw stuff at him in the first couple of songs and he called everybody a bunch of A-holes, walked off the stage and told industry magazines that he would never never play here again - a small group of losers ruined it for the rest of us.

I wasn't going to say anything about Skinny Puppy earlier but I've always had two favorite bands. My favorite is a scarcely known band named The Jean-Paul Sartre Experience. But I've always considered Skinny Puppy #2. The band has even been cited as an inspiration to several composers. I remember seeing a documentary on PBS on one and he mentioned how the band affected his work. Great to see other people that respect their work. Cool - my friends are in a couple of his earlier concert setting videos : ) I always watch for them when 80s weekends come on ;p Marten nobody should ever be afraid to say what it is they like. I love 80s music but I also love so many other types of music. In the early 90s I did my stint at our University Station that only played obscure alternative - so that rubbed off on me as well. I certainly hope we are setting the standard here on this board for freedom of speech - I can't stand Bobby Brown and NKOTB but someone else coming here may love them and thats cool : )

Sal Collaziano
2-04-00, 12:15 PM
Darnit. I like a few Bobby Brown songs.. hehe NKOTB have a song or two that I like too.. Uh oh!! hehe :\ Zel. Do you dislike Bobby Brown the singer or Bobby Brown the person?

Zel
2-04-00, 08:56 PM
I guess the person - I didn't like his do in Every Little Step - (prefer Will Smith's style) and I'm not impressed with how he treats Whitney - Yes the Soap's begun lol the saga of Whitney and Bobby (not my top priority really) lol.

Sal Collaziano
2-06-00, 07:39 AM
Well, the only thing I'm interested in is his music. I like to beats, the sound; all of it.. But that's as far as it goes! haha Atleast his older music. I don't know anything beyond the 80's...

Wow, I never thought I would hear Skinny Puppy mentioned here. I have been listening to Industrial since 1995, and Skinny Puppy is one of my favorites in that category. Actually, X Marks the Pedwalk is my favorite industrial band, followed by Front 242, then Project Pitchfork, then Skinny Puppy. My favorite Skinny Puppy album is Rabies...most people don't like that one though. Oh, by the way, Steelheart is incredible! I saw them in 90 or 91 at a club called the Button South in Hallandale. I have their first two albums (I don't know if they have any more)...but they rock! I love "Sweet Electric Love Child" the most!

Sal Collaziano

Mirdonamy. I never realized that Skinny Puppy was what industrial was. Now I know.. Cool. Not bad, really.. Very interesting music!

Yeah, Skinny Puppy is great. They are industrial. You may like Front Line Assembly, Front 242, and X Marks the Pedwalk if you like Skinny Puppy. I love them all! :)

Wow. I've never heard any of them before. I'm not sure what made me buy Skinny Puppy when I did, but it was pretty cool when I heard it..

Geez, the floyd references got me thinking...When I was home for x-mas, my brother and his little boy and I went to our folks cabin in Pennsylvania. The whole way home we listened to "Dark Side". Man, it was like I was 8 again, and Michael 19. Except that his little dude was with, experiencing the same stuff I did at his age. Not a big floyd fan, Roger Waters is too introspective. I also dug the Not Man stuff. I was big into Anthrax, when they were good; I think only Among The Living rates, though. I also had the S.O.D stuff, and the M.O.D. Beastie were huge with me, as was Duran, and Devo. What about Steel Breeze (Floyd reference)

Sal Collaziano
2-10-00, 05:31 PM
What's up, Stevestar? Welcome to the community! :) Regarding Anthrax - My favorite album is the Among The Living album as well.. State of Euphoria is right up there, though - for me.. S.O.D., M.O.D. Yup! I'm right there with ya too! (Some Anthrax was in S.O.D.) Speak English or Die and USA for MOD were a couple of my favorite cassettes to play in my walkman.. At this point, Suicidal Tendencies was big with me as well. Until Metallica, Death, and King Diamond came along...
