Sal Collaziano 12-07-99, 05:47 AM That's one 80's group that I don't know much about at all.. It was a kind of music totally foreign to me... It was considered New Wave. Right? Skyklad 12-08-99, 08:13 AM I don't consider Depeche Mode New Wave but then again I've never been good with the labeling of music....Hehehe...I love DM though..never got to see them but have almost all their recordings. Their later stuff is pretty mellow and dark... Sal Collaziano 12-08-99, 08:38 AM Mellow and dark? Can you explain that alittle further? It sounds interesting. hehe :) Skyklad 12-10-99, 07:33 AM The Depeche Mode of the nineties I don't think is the same as that of the eighties. They are more sombre at times and dark. The music takes on a mellower attitude and really sets one in a serious state of mind. I love Depeche Mode both ways they have presented themselves...and maybe even like the dark and mellow style better. It's almost gothic but not really....check some of their later material out...especially their last two. Sal Collaziano 12-10-99, 08:12 AM I wish I had the mind of Minolta.. Atleast I could remember all the things you's are mentioning to me.. One day, I will get around to checking out Depeche Mode - and when I do, I will look closely at their two most recent albums... :) Thanks... lucasist 12-13-99, 02:37 PM The original post was right about the disco thing. DM are no an obvious dancable band but their early, simple synth. pop is great for dancing to. Especially 'Just can't get enough' or maybe 'See you'. Their music got gradually got more depressive as the years went on. For example, who else could release the 'Blasphemous Rumours' track with a chorus.... "I don't want to start any Blasphemous Rumours but I think that God's got a sick sense of humour and when I die I expect to find him laughing". Brilliant. Then in later years, another favourite of mine off the 'Violator' album. Can't remember title but best lyric is "You wear guilt, like shackles on your feet, like a halo in reverse" You need to hear this stuff to do it justice. If your new to it, start with the 1980-85 hits compilation. Money well spent! Lucasist. Sal Collaziano 12-13-99, 06:06 PM Hmm. That sounds interesting.. What are the best songs from that time? I will get them and check 'em out.. an80snut 1-02-00, 03:12 PM It's well worth investing in both The Singles 81-85 and The Singles 86-98. Also hard to say what the best songs are from the early part of their career. I'm a fan of their second album over all their material but like what they've done after Music For The Masses more than the early material. The history of the band dictated a lot of the early sound with the first album written entirely by their keyboardist Vince Clarke (later Yazoo and Erasure). The third album was a break from all of the things people expected of Depeche. But to name some of the best singles from 81-85... IMHO: "See You," "Everything Counts," "Somebody" and "Shake The Disease." Songs like "People Are People," "Just Can't Get Enough" and "Master And Servant" just haven't held the test of time for me (that Gap commercial may prove me wrong). Great music tho. I just think they firmly developed from 86-87. I always see Music For The Masses as the best starter for anyone looking into Depeche. Hope any of that rambling helps. Hi there. hehe Okay, I do remember Depeche Mode being HUGE in like 86 and 87. I was never a big fan, though. At that time I was too big into heavy metal and then suddenly jumped to Freestyle dance and club music. On the other hand, I've been hearing some songs lately that are totally not my type of music but liking it. I found out yesterday afternoon that Depeche Mode sings one or two of them. They have a new album. Right? I would imagine thier music has changed alot in order for it to have a sound that I like... I like all kinds of music but not every kind sticks with me... Sheila Take a Bow 2-08-00, 07:48 PM Violator was great...but one of my favourite songs is "Here is the House". does anyone like the Smiths?? Sal Collaziano 2-09-00, 03:02 PM Hi, Sheila! Welcome to the community! :) Glad to have ya as a member. I hope you find the time to visit frequently!! This might sound funny to you, but.. I don't know much about the Smiths! I mean, I hear about them all the time! But I'm not familiar with their music... :( I know others here are though! :) tamsterooni 2-10-00, 08:11 AM Has anyone ever heard a remix of "Just Can't Get Enough" in Spanish? I heard in on the radio about a year ago, haven't heard it since. Sal Collaziano 2-10-00, 06:28 PM Hi, Tamsterooni. :) Welcome to the community! I haven't heard that song you mentioned. :( Sorry. Otherwise, I hope you find time to come visit us often! :) veeka 3-03-00, 01:30 AM Depeche Mode....such a great band!! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smokin.gif ALT=":smokin"> www.depechemode.com/ (http://www.depechemode.com/) drose1977 5-15-00, 11:00 AM Hey... you can play Depeche Mode right off of your computer! Triavial lyrics. No sound design. No catchy melodies (except for some few pearls on the record). However, I enjoy the old stuff, still hoping theyエll put out another record after Exciter. A better one. What is you favourite DM album? I canエt really say. Concerning the sound: Songs of Faith an Devotion Concerning the lyrics: Black Celebration Concerning the feeling: 101 After all: Violator. I know many people just love Music for the Masses. I think itエs great but itエs missing something. I donエt know. "The Things you Said" and "Never let me down" and "Strangelove" are definitely some of the best DM songs ever. Still: Just listen to those silent pearls of songs never released as singles on mentioned albums: it doesnエt matter two world full of nothing here is the house judas one caress halo waiting for the night blue dress clean ozapftis@yahoo.de Carstino 7-09-01, 12:27 PM Hi Sheila, I do like the Smiths. Yeah. I only got few albums though. The Queen is Dead, Best of II and some good Morressey stuff. The singerエs voice is very charismatic. Itエs always amazing that itエs often gay or bisexuel people who create great music. Suede, George Michael, Morressey, Placebo, Jimmy Somerville, Pet Shop Boys, Michael Stipe, just to mention a few. Iエve got a big exam to pass tomorrow. Wish me luck! Carsten, Munich/Germany nathanstack 8-25-02, 10:47 PM Hi everyone. My name is Nathan Stack, and I知 a Depeche Mode fan and a musician. I recently released my first CD and launched my official website. I also recorded a cover of DM's "The Things You Said," and you can download an mp3 of the cover on my site. Just visit the "music" link then the "cover songs" link and you値l find it. You can also read my commentary about recording the DM cover (which I highly recommend if you download the track), and you can do the same for my covers of songs by Duran Duran and Ivy. Here are a couple of links to me and my music. My official site (http://www.nathanstack.com) Listen to my entire album online (http://www.mp3.com/nathanstack) I hope you値l download my DM cover, but I also really hope you値l give my original music a listen. Completing my album is a huge accomplishment for me, and the one thing I知 most excited about is getting to share that music with others. Nathan Stack http://www.nathanstack.com/nathanstack.jpg |
