View Full Version : Y2K paranoia...
Skyklad 11-22-99, 06:53 AM Anybody else out there a bit sick of all the paranoia associated with Y2K..a silly number changes and the world freaks out. I don't quite understand what the big deal is with this. The government recently reported that it is "Y2K" complient now...oh goodie..we are all saved from the nasty Y2K bug!!! :)
I agree skyklad!! Its scary the elderly and Canada is pretty much y2k ready. My bank was very pleased to inform me that they were y2k ready and had been since 1975 when they realized they would have to do something with 25 year mortgages. I was crossing my fingers that the whole system would crash (just at the bank) so my student loan would disappear. lol I for one am looking forward to what 2000 and beyond has in store for us. : )
Sal Collaziano 11-22-99, 08:02 AM Yeah, this whole thing is ridiculous. Planes falling, elevators stopping, etc. How stupid!!! It's not going to happen. Because of all this nonsense, the only thing that's going to happen is the biggest FULL-MOON effect on peoples brains in history. Idiots will be running around like chickens without heads for no reason at all. :) hehe
Skyklad 11-22-99, 08:48 AM The only thing I would not mind going wrong is that my bank account would suddenly increase by a couple million!!! LOL Other than that I'm going to sit back and watch the Mayhem from my living room couch! There is no way I'm going out of the house on New Years Eve considering all the crazy and drunk people will be out..not to mention probably hoards of picketers with End Of The World signs!! LOL
I agree. We are going to friends for the night and we're dressing up as our favorite decade (hmmm thats a tough one)and I'm not leaving the house untile well the next morning because, and I am so glad that Canada has stricter gun control laws, who knows who is going to come out of the wood works. John 3:17 or something like that at every bar in town.
Not Man 11-22-99, 01:11 PM Pretty cool I thought I was the only one who thought this was just a media play to get everyone all worked up. I agree Skyklad that would be nice to have the banks screw up in a favor.
Sal Collaziano 11-22-99, 03:38 PM "The Freaks Come Out At Night" for sure on new years eve this year!
Mirdonamy 11-23-99, 06:34 AM What moran programmed computers that wouldn't allow the numbers to flip? Are we being told the numbers can't flip to zeros or is it really true...hmmmm. Anyhow, this is ridiculous. I don't get what idiot thought that the world wouldn't exist after 1999 so we might as well not worry about making computers' calanders go past that date. Oh boy. Anyhow, I think what is worse about this Y2K thing more than the computer problem and the press, are the idiots out there preparing for the end of the world. So many more gun purchases and freaks on too many more drugs than normal is what really scares me! My sister wants to go to Disney World...but I think some looney may try to blow up Mickey mouse or something (or maybe the media has invaded my mind and made me thing that...or perhaps that is my... nah, I am going to have a party instead)! Woo Hoo!
Sal Collaziano 11-23-99, 07:39 AM Are all of us sane people invited to your party? I sure hope so! hehehe
I heard and correct me if I'm wrong, that Alan Greenspan (your treasurer) was behind this big IBM goof of the century. I'm not worried about the y2k problem but the y2k freaks do scare me. Flipping through the channels sunday morning all the 'Pat Buchanan' type religious shows are trying to scare their 'flock' with y2k hoopla and I feel so sorry for these people, especially the elderly who don't know as much about technology, my Dad being one of them since he only broke down this year and got a Bankcard. : )
Sal Collaziano 11-23-99, 05:36 PM Why are they trying to scare everyone?! What is the scam?
More souls to be saved -- more money for their plastic shrines.
Sal Collaziano 11-24-99, 02:19 AM Oh! Good point, Zel!!
Mirdonamy 11-24-99, 07:09 PM Hey, if you are gonna be in Fort Lauderdale...you're invited! :)
Sal Collaziano 11-25-99, 05:52 AM I will move to Florida one day.. It's where I want to be...
I love Florida too. We used to make the yearly trek to Fort Myers Beach to beat the cold during the month of December : ) The beaches on the gulf are breath taking with the white coral sand.
Sal Collaziano 11-25-99, 12:06 PM My Mother lives in West Palm Beach and I plan on going for a visit soon.. I stayed in Vero Beach for Summer school one year. That was really nice. It was especially cool since everyone was afraid of me being from New York. It was like 7th geade! :) hehehe
Mirdonamy 12-09-99, 09:03 AM West Palm isn't far from me. I live about 1 hour south of WPB. Vero is further though. I am closer to Miami than WPB. Let me know when you are coming...we can try to find an 80s club to go to in Ft.Laud! :)
Sal Collaziano 12-09-99, 10:42 AM :) hehe Cool. One day in the future. :) I really do love Florida, so.. It'll happen. :)
