John Hughes just released this info..sequel to Breakfast Club. Now that all these teen movies are coming back to theaters, it would be a good time to start again. ('Bout time!!!)
They just announced it last weekend at a reshowing of it that I went to. Of course, it's going to be an entirely different cast since they are all grown up now. Wonder what it's going to be based around this time...

That won't do - it has to be the same cast!! A where are they 20 years later kind of deal and they all get locked in the Library again.

I totally agree Zel!! That would be great, wonder what the story line would be........is Bender still a criminal,is Claire still the spoiled princess, is Andrew still an athlete, Brian still a nerdy Brain? Does Allison go back to being a Basketcase?
We could write this!! LMAO

Not that I have any kind of screen writers perspective, but... here is how I would write the movie.
(I cannot remember the charector (sp?) names for Emilio Esteves and Ally Sheedy, so hertofore, for the purposes of this writing, they will be referred to as Emilio and Sheedy.
WARNING! THIS IS LOOOOOOONG!
(and probably not that good either, but hey, I aint no fricking John Hughes)
BC2K:

I would start out, with the first scene having the old "Dont you forget about me" playing as a pair of hands are shown opening an envelope. The camera pans up and shows Ally Sheedy smiling broadly.

Emelio is shown, checking his mail, in his nice middle class nbeighborhood with his 3 kids (one girl and a set of boy twins) playing in the yard. He notes an envelope and stops to open and read its contents. After a big WTF look, he runs inside.

A.M. Hall is at work, trying to fix his lamp (of all things) when the mailroom guy drops a bundle of mail in his lap. He, being the busy guy that he is, ignores it, and continues trying to fix the lamp.

Bender is shown getting a (GASP) haircut and he is rambling on to the barber, but since the music and opening titles are going, you cant hear what he is saying. But, you can tell he is very animated in his discussion, with the Barber nodding, and not paying much attention.

Claire (thats a fat girl's name) is next, she is thumbing through a magazine at the mall when her eyes get big, and biting her lip (the way she always does), she smiles, shakes her head "YES" and goes to the counter, magazine in hand.

Lastly is DICK, sitting in his PRINCIPAL'S office. His secretary brings him his mail, and he also recieves one of the envelopes. He opens it, spills coffee all over it, and dries it off. After reading the contents, he throws it down and is heard saying "NO WAY, NO F'N WAY!"

Next scene has Bender, phone book in hand, trying to secure a stripper for a bachelor party.(no, not the tom hank type) Frustrated, he is sadly unable to find one who is going to be "within normal price range". He agrees to the "too damn expensive" stripper, and tells her when/where to be there.

Our next scene shows Johnson, at home with his wife, a suprisingly attractive woman, as he tries to explain where he is going. He stalls, and after stuttering for a few minutes, he tells her is is going to a bachelor party. She asks for who, and all he says is "an old friend"

Meanwhile accross town, a hotel room is being prepared for a party. Beer, booze and cigars are all laid out, waiting to be had. The door opens and Emilio and Bender are standing there, wide grins, and they walk inside. A few other people join them, and they begin to drink. A knock on the door brings Bender to his feet. As he opens the door, we see Johnson, nervous, and obviously feeling out of place.

The next scene is about 3 hours later, all are on thier way to being drunk and the stripper is on her way out the door. All the men are saying thier good byes and thank you's. Shortly after she leaves most of the other guys start to file out, leaving only Bender, Johnson, and Emilio. Bender says "well, now that that's over lets catch up"

A dimly lit restaraunt is shown, and inside sits Claire (That's a fat girl's name). She is looking over a menu, as the waiter waits patiently. She orders her food (NOPE, no sushi). As the waiter is walking away, we see a body walk up beside her. She looks up and sees Sheedy, who sits down.

Sheedy starts by saying "I cant believe you are finally getting married"
Claire : "I know, I thought it would never happen. When he finally asked me I almost died"
Sheedy: How did he propose?
Claire: Well we were sitting on the beach in (insert trendy vacation spot) and he just rolled over and says ' why dont we just get married'
Sheedy: "WHAT? THAT WAS IT? NO GETTING ON HIS KNEE, NO RING HIDDEN SOMEPLACE ROMANTIC?"
Clair: "Well, you know John......"

Cuts back to Hotel room.
Emilio : "thats it, thats all you said"
Bender : "YUP!"
Johnson "No way, no way, I cant believe it, a girl like Claire and all you can come up with is "why dont we just get married?!?!"
Bender "A girl like Claire? What does that mean"
Emilio "yeah, what does that mean"
Johnson "well uh, you know, I mean, uh"

Sheedy: "where you going on your honeymoon? Someplace nice, someplace warm?"
Claire: "we havent decided yet, we may not take one, depends on who gives us a better present, my mom or my dad"
Sheedy: "Is he bringing his new wife?"
Claire: "Theresa? Yeah, I guess, they still havent RSVP'ed so I am not sure he even wants to come"

Bender "Well brian, we are all waiting, what does "a girl like claire" mean?"
Johnson "well, i just figured, you know, if it was me, i would, well, you know, i would probably have tried to make it, you know, like more romantic........... or something"
Emelio "Jesus Brian, you can tell you are a newley wed, ROMANCE doesnt exist, it is a fable, it doesnt happen"
Bender "Hes right Bri, you'll see in a few years......... when you are together as long as Claire and me, shit like that doesnt happen"

Claire: "So you know, I was going to ask you to be my one of my bridesmaids. Would you like that"
Sheedy: "SURE!"
(they hug and giggle and squeel like girls do)

Back at the hotel, the guys are talking about thier lives and relationships. bender seems content, Johnson is head over heels, and Emilio is rather Blase' about his. The more they talk the more it is revealed that Sheedy and Emilio had a stormy relationship that was basically squashed by Emilio's father. Emilio was then fixed up by his parents with a girl who was "the right kind of girl". After a few years, they get hitched and had a few children. That is when he realised he wasnt in love, but had no choice but to stay married. when asked why his answer is "isnt that what everybody expects of me?"

Sheedy and Claire are talking, Claire is amazed that sheedy has such a terrific life, and business (she owns an antique store, still collecting junk). Sheedy tells how envious she is of Claire, because Claire has what she always wanted.....Somebody to love her.

next scene is the wedding rehearsal dinner, we finally see clairs parents. Mom is typical bitter first wife, dad is going through his 2nd or 3rd mid life crisis, and has the Porsche, and young dumb blonde wife to prove it. Bender has no family there, mom has been out of his life for years, and dad was killed while driving drunk. Everybody seems happy, and the only person missing is Johnson. The rest of the gang start to talk about that fatefull day when all thier paths converged, and they made lifelong friends. this is intercut with flashbacks from the original movie, making us all more familiar with how much different some are (sheedy, Bender) and how the others seem to have not changed much in thier adulthood. We are aware that Emilio still does thing to please others and is still not happy with it, while Claire is still pretty much superficial and materialistic.
We see Claire on her cell phone, and she is talking about how much she wishes "you were here". A few "will you be at the weddings?" later and she gets off the phone.

She tells the others that Johnson will not be at the wedding, he has a family situation he needs to tend to. They all seem dissapointed, but go about thier conversations, laughing and having a good time.

Bender tells emilio that Claires dad "finally gave in and accepted me" and gave him a job with the family business. he has made great strides and is now a respectable man.

They all go home and are eager for the next days wedding.
The day starts out horribly (ala 16 candles) with things going wrong, dresses ripping, etc, but everybody makes it to the wedding on time.

in the dressing room, as Claire is getting ready, a slight knock is heard and Johnson pops his head in. He is invited in and asks to speak to Claire alone. The bridesmades all leave, and we get to the meat of the movie.

Johnson :Claire, I cant belive you are marrying John, after 16 years, why now, why get married?"

Claire "he asked me, and I love him, so I said yes"

JOhnson: "Are you sure you love him? Or are you getting married because you feel you are getting to old or somehting like that?"

Claire: "I love john, I couldnt be happier if...."
Johnson (interupting) "I LOVE YOU!"
Claire is astonished! "What? Brian, you just got married!, what are you talking about?!?!?!?!"
Brian goes into a heartfelt story about how he fell in love that saturday in detention and has carried the flame for years, never letting on, because of his fear of john, and his desire for Claire to be happy. He tells her how he married his wife because she reminds him of Claire, and he doesnt love his wife, and all he ever thinks about is how much he has hurt inside because he never revealed his true feelings. He then grabs Claire and gives her a long passionate kiss that is (and you knew this was coming) walked in on by Sheedy. Sheedy gasps and runs out, and tells the best man Emilio what is going on. He takes a look for himself, and sees the end of the kiss, Claire, being astonished cannot speak. Who walks up behind our two peeping toms but (of course) John Bender. John wants to know what is up, why all the spying, etc. Sheedy wants to spill the beans, but Emilio cuts her off. They get into an arguement, which is a rehash of all thier previous problems with trust, and others interfearing and ruining what was good. When bender asks what they are all talking about, the door opens and johnson walks out.
He gets the "brian, thought you werent coming" from Bender. He looks at Bender, and rushed out of the Church. When he is asking what THAT was all about, clair come out crying. A big confrentation ensues and which finally leads to Claire blurting out that Brian kissed her, and she cant marry John. She goes on to tell him that she is NOT in love with brian, but she realises that John still has too much of his father in him (controlling, sometimes easily enraged) . She says "you couldnt even propose to me the right way, which I should have figured knowing how you are". John asks what that means and she says "lets face it John, you and I are not supposed to be together, we are too different, and you would still be the same drunken moron if my dad hadnt given you a job" Which leads to the first "steal a line from the first movie for dramatic effect moment" as john screams, for all the Church to hear....
"YOU ARE A BITCH" (always my favorite part of the original movie)

He tells her how he didnt want the job, the money, the BS, and only took it to make her happy. He tells her about how he sacrificed his entire adult life, trying to make the "right" choices that would keep her happy and keep her loving him. he tells about how he tried to quit the job wiht his dads company, but the dad wouldnt hear of it, and would promote him each time he tried to leave, figuring he would not walk away from the money he needed to keep Claire happy.(reinforcing the CLAIRES A MATERIALISTIC BITCH theme) He talks about wanting to start his own business, and how he never fealt he could because of his desire to keep Claire happy.

He walks out of the church and gets in his car and drives off. This is the last we see of John Bender.
Brian comes back and appologizes for what happend, and finds out about the events that transpired while he was gone. As they all sit, drinking the Champaign from what was supposed to be Claire and Johns reception, they all talk about how unhappy they are, and ask themselves if anybody is really happy. We see a flashback to the original, where sheedy states "Its inevitable, when you get old, your heart dies". They show her leaving the reception area, and drive off, knowing in her heart that she is the only happy one in the group. as she drives off, and the screen goes black, we hear the familiar sounds of "dont you forget about me".

THE END

My version in my head is that all the gang comes back for their 20th highschool reunion that or the principal's funeral and they get stuck in the library again. its like a time warp because like most highschool libraries not many things change.

Claire - got married - daddy lost his money in Bre-X or savings and loans scandal (etc)poverty, the husband runs around on her in front of her face, and she could lose a few pounds. Unfortunately for her - she still see's herself as Claire the 16 year old homecoming queen and is in desperate need of a reality check.

Emillio Estevez - is an olympic wrestling coach and is divorced with one son that he wants to see become a great athlete (we follow in our parents footsteps).

A.M.H - who never really had a break in highschool even after the bonding among the group that fatefull weekend comes into his own at University and is now a professor of physics at MIT. He's married has a great relationship with a woman he feels he doesn't deserve. He still see's himself as the shy boy that no one other than his kind talked to.

Sheedy is a designer and like Ron's version - the most well adjusted member of the group. At least she thinks so. She still doesn't like to let people in - she doesn't hide behind her long bangs anymore - her hectic business schedule keeps her away from meaningful relationships.

Bender is of all things a highschool teacher and a guidance counsellor. He tries to guide the underdog to find his full potential and never judges. He believes fully in Saturday afternoon detentions but not for the reasons that the previous principal did - he likes to see people of different kinds come together and problem solve and he has seen the school over time become less superficial.

They all attend the reunion/funeral and though they avoid meeting up they all tend to gravitate towards the old library like they can't help but look back on that weekend. They come in in the order that they did in the origonal and all sit down where they did that one day and sit.
The silence is heavy but shortly they are reminicing how they pulled one over on the principal. Bender laughing gets up and shows how he pulled the pin out of the doors the last time to keep they eyes off them. The door slams shut and unfortunately its locked. Panic ensues and everyone starts arguing except Sheedy who just sits there and smiles. Estevez goes off and puts on some music and they start talking about how great their lives are (confrontation) Claire is still a bitch lost in a world not meant for her anymore. Bender is still haunted by his abusive father and has avoided marriage and children for fear he may become him, Estevez comes to realize he's pushing his son with all his dreams like his own father did.
I'd kinda like to see Bender and Claire get together but its not going to happend - who I would like to see get together is Sheedy and Estevez. I'd like Claire to realize that her life has changed but not necessarily for the bad. I'd like Bender to ask that nice quiet teacher from languages to coffee when he gets out of the library. I'm not sure about A.M.H except he had been considering killing himself again but is past it.
They write one last letter to the principal in a manner only John Hughes can and they leave seperately. The last one to focus on again is Bender with Simple Minds -Don't you forget about me (hopefully not 90s version).
Fade to black until we demand a 40 year Breakfast club reunion

Damn! I've been away for too long.. These are really great! Those stories, I mean! Geez.. I should put this up on the front page with the rest of those links.. People should see this stuff. Is there a serious script being written for this movie? Or was that just a rumor?
