80's Eric

I collect greatest hits CD's by "80's" artists. Believe it or not, I have nearly 200 of them (just about everybody has a greatest hits disc.) As I'm sure most people know, a great majority of greatest hits discs don't contain all the hits. The time has come to start filling in some of the blanks with my collection. I had considered using Napster to download some 80's tracks. Does anybody know if these forgotten tracks are included in Napster's million song library?
Looking Over My Shoulder- 'Til Tuesday
Love Of A Lifetime- Chaka Khan
Angel In My Pocket- One To One
Livin' In Desperate Times- Olivia Newton John
Really Wanna Know You- Gary Wright
There are many more that I need, but if Napster has the majority of these songs, I think it's well worth installing. Thanks for your help!

Your best bet for 80's jamz is any of these:
Morpheus
Kazaa
Grokster
Limewire

Not forgetting WinMX, serving Chasey since 2001! :thumb:
Just out of interest, I see that Kazaa lost a court case recently and is now going to have to shut up shop or go the same way as Napster and provide a 'paid for' service.

Hi,
I have already completed the project you are starting to work on - collecting every charting single song of the 1980s in MP3 format. Information on this project can be found at:
http://www.geocities.com/addicted_to_mp3s/index.htm
Whenever I make modifications to the set I have to burn new backups and currently have 3 or 4 old spare backups that I don't need anymore. I've been giving away old backup sets to anyone who is interested. My E-mail is:
addicted_to_mp3s@yahoo.com
I will send the extra backups on a first-come-first-served basis. Just let me know the snail-mail address to send it to.
Let me correct some of the information above.
1. The recent court loss was against Grokster, not KaZaa. Grokster closed as a result of the ruling, KaZaa is still going.
2. KaZaa has not been in court in the last 2 years to the best of my knowledge. KaZaa won its case when sue by the RIAA.
3. As a result of the Grokster decision the company that makes WinMX closed down. But the WinMX network and the underlying OpenNap networks are still functional. It is possible to patch WinMX so that it functions. I have patched my WinMX and the patch works. More on the WinMX patch:

4. In regard to your question Napster is really two different programs. The original file-sharing program had about 95% of all charting single songs of the 1980s. Finding the remaining 5% took me 2 years. I have not used the current pay-per-download incarnation of Napster but have heard that the current selection is poor in comparison to the original Napster.
5. The most recent internet surveys of file-sharing traffic indicate that the two most popular programs are BitTorrent and E-donkey. File sharing traffic has been increasing steadily and shows no signs of decline after the recent closings of some file-sharng companies. KaZaa has fallen in popularity and represents about 7% of current traffic, down from 25% of traffic two years ago.
