Anybody remember Rick Astley? Man I LOVED him then and still love him!
People always give me a hard time about it LOL But I figure I can admit it on here, since we are all 80' children. Just the other day I was on the way to work and I had Rick Cranked up and I was singing along having a blast..this dude pulls up next to me and looked at me like I was an alien! I have a pretty loud system in my car and I know everyone could hear " Never gonna give you up" coming out of my car! I gotta say though.he has one hell of a voice..tripped me out when I first saw him cuz he sure don't look like he sounds. I heard somewhere that he's a sheep farmer or something.
So who else likes Rick?

I liked Rick too, but I must say that I was more a fan of SAW's music rather than the performers themselves. I thought Rick was simply a "competent" singer in his first 2 albums. The booming deep voice was partly created by adding lots of bass and reverb to his vocals in the studio and whenever he reached a tricky note, lots of backing vocals come in to mask the flaws. Eg. "Never gonna give you up, never gonna SAY goodbye", where SAY was a high note he had trouble reaching. I remember him being on Brit awards and he had trouble with that note. Having said that, I was impressed with his singing in the 3rd album (where Cry For Help) came from. He obviously had vocal coaching and sang less from the throat. On the other hand, I thought that the songs in that album was commercially weak and hence the begin of his demise. In my opinion, Rick's success was a testimony of the songwriting and production skills of a team of producers (SAW) who should go down in history as one of the best ever.

It takes me to a moment very special in my life, when I was 18 and his hits were, and still are, quite beatiful.
It is a pity that Rick had stop making music like he did by the 80's, simply unforgettable.

Of all RA's songs, Together Forever is my favourite & SAW have definitely make their mark in music history. Their music was everywhere in the 80s, From Bananarama to Donna Summer to Kylie Minogue.
