Today, the charts are mainly consisting of cover versions (be it Techno or Rap/Hip Hop) which makes me sometimes think that music has come to an end... <img src="mad.gif" border="0">
But this is no novelty...some of the greatest hits of the 80s were actually cover versions from the 60s or 70s, like Soft Cells "Tainted Love". This is a cover version I would absolutely rate as a "good" one...vice versa, the version of Status Quo "In The Army Now" which was originally performed by Bolland&Bolland just give me the creeps.
Now...what are your favourite or most disliked cover tunes?
To draw a line, all more or less "current" tracks are taken out of this survey, e.g. DJ Pulsedrivers "Cambodia" or all Rap/HipHop basing on 80s tracks or using samples like "Rolling On Chrome" by the Aphrodelics. Otherwise, such tracks done in the 80s like Africa Bambaataas "Planet Rock" are welcome...
Itīs not meant as an offense to all Techno and Black Music fans, but IMHO it doesnīt take much to knit a tune around a "classic" today.
Okay...letīs go!
