View Full Version : annoying songs of the 80's
I wasn't sure if this is the section for this. But I was sending an email earlier, and enjoying some 80's tunes on the net. A Billy Joel song came on, and for some reason I can't listen to a lot of his stuff all the through. Try as I might to enjoy it. I do like some of his songs. But others just rub me the wrong way. This one is
"Don't forget your second wind.
You're only human.
Sooner or later the momentum will kick in.."
hope i don't offend anyone

djdaffy1227 5-29-01, 11:35 PM That's one of my favorites. It is about his suicide attempt.
I think the most annoying song of the 80's was "Don't worry be happy"
oh...(talk about guilt trip!)
I wish him well.
Actually, I think Bobby Mcferrin was like that when he wrote that song. Or he wrote it for someone who was. (i think.)
I didn't know B. Joel was ever that down and out. damn.
I agree with you DJ, "Don't Worry Be Happy" used to drive me nuts!
I'm glad I don't have to hear it anymore. I'll NEVER miss that song!
morningmyst 5-30-01, 04:14 AM You know what was bad about that song? Besides the fact that they played it every 3 minutes? I had 3 friends that died in a car wreck, and they played that freakin song at their funerals!!!! How tacky is that???? Now, I seriously cant' stand that song!
They played "Don't worry, Be happy" at a funeral? That's terrible. I can't even put into words my disgust at something like that occurring.
morningmyst 5-30-01, 04:43 AM No kidding, huh? That and Forever Young by Rod Stewart. I cry now everytime I hear that song! The other one I just cringe at!
Don't worry, Be Happy was on the radio when I signed my enlistment papers to join the navy. I will never forget that song.
Some of my less favorite songs from the 80s
Pop goes the world- MEN WITHOUT HATS
Rythym of the night -DEBARGE
Touch me - Samantha Fox
The Right Stuff - NKOTB
lazy boy 5-30-01, 12:32 PM Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. That song's just way too happy!
djdaffy1227 5-30-01, 12:42 PM Oh Lord,
NKOTB gag. I got there last C.D. when they changed their name to NKOTB for 75cents. Yes, I even buy things I hate. I can't help it.
80sTrivia 5-31-01, 10:00 PM I would have to say that "She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dolby is the most annoying 80s song to me. "Two of Hearts" by Stacey Q. and "I Can't Wait" by Nu Shooz are also high on the annoying meter...
The Eighties Strike Back (http://www.Swiftsite.com/80sdude)
ImSoooSure 6-01-01, 04:03 AM I wear my sunglasses at night...So I can... So I can...blah blah blah! Only a jerk wears sunglasses at night. Come on people! Sorry, I got a little carried away.
Chrisscross 6-01-01, 06:08 PM Oh no!!!!! I loved that song. Though I loved Corey Hart more. Most annoying song for me: anything by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers because their songs always always always bring me bad luck (or was that in the 90s?) and anything by Nena the German 'singing sensation'. 99Red Balloons was bareable but the rest ... . Oh and a german band called BAP. Boy were they bad.
Chris
80sTrivia 6-01-01, 06:47 PM I also forgot to mention the highly annoying (and paranoid) song "Somebody's Watching Me" by Rockwell... somebody's watching you, huh... nobody cares...

Chrisscross 6-01-01, 09:00 PM Oh no!!!!! I loved that song. Though I loved Corey Hart more. Chris
80sTrivia 6-02-01, 11:37 PM Also, Ready For the World's song "Oh, Sheila" is most annoying... complete with phony British accents and oh-so-sexy grunts... yeah, right...
Valley of the 80s (http://www.SwiftSite.com/80sdude)
This song annoyed me to no end. It came out in 1978, and they played the song all the time even into the early 80's.
Randy Newman's "Short People", and then in 1980 he came out with "I Love L.A."
I think, I was more annoyed with his voice.
80sTrivia 6-03-01, 10:19 AM ITA, Sarg... Randy Newman's voice sounds like Bob Dylan on helium... I would rather hear fingernails on a chalkboard than to listen to one of his songs...
How The 80s Were Won (http://www.SwiftSite.com/80sdude)
I liked Rockwells song That Wham, song I could live without G.M. acts entirely to gay in that video At the time, Who knew??
outofplacechild 6-03-01, 12:28 PM The collected works of Billy Joel. It's nothing but depression and meaningless lyrics filtered through an annoying voice.
As for others:
-"Bad To The Bone" by George Thorogood
-"Electric Slide" by some lady who faded into obscurity
-"Power Of Love" by Laura Branigan. Hey, I love the woman's work, but this is just an overwrought ballad. The annoyance factor was cranked up to 11 when Celine Dion covered this in the late 90s. I like "Power Of Love"-Of course, that is, a song of the same name by Huey Lewis & The News. "Don't need money/Don't take fame/Don't need no credit card to ride this train"-"Back To The Future" RULES!
-I'm probably stretching the bounds on this one, but I am damned tired of "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions" by Queen. Enough is enough with this song. If these sports stadium idiots are going to play Queen songs, for Freddie Mercury's sake, play "Another One Bites The Dust". I'll thank you.
Sincerely,
John "outofplacechild Kilduff
most annoying 80s song! Great topic!! I have been looking for a topic to say just how much the song, "I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight" by the Cutting Crew makes me cringe!!! AAAAHHHH!!!!
(MDC, Thomas Dolby? That song rocks!)
I agree "Don't Worry Be Happy" got on my nerves too..
The Vapors- "Turning Japanese" is another one for me.. Oh!!! And I can't forget to add that Paul Hardcastle song "19" !!!
Very annoying!
I'll agree with you on The Vapors "Turning Japanese", Tinajo. I fogot just how annoying that song was until I played one of my 80's compilation CD's, and that song came on. I had to skip to the next song.
I always liked "I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight" by Cutting Crew though!

WutheringHeights 6-03-01, 08:05 PM Heres some I thought of that I cannot stand!!
The Proclaimers - 500 Miles
Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry Be Happy
George Thorogood - 1 Bourbon/1 Scotch and 1 Beer
That's all I can think of for now I am sure once I wake up properly (its 7am) I will think of some more LOL!!
Before I go, why is it the songs you detest the most are the ones that if youve heard during the day you cant get out of your mind?
Is it some kind of evil torture LOL..
Kylee
Chrisscross 6-03-01, 08:30 PM I like Queen but I can't stand 'We will rock you either.'
Chris
ImSoooSure 6-06-01, 04:47 AM Tinajo, I agree with you on I just died in your arms. Did you ever see that Saturday Night Live skit where Will Ferrell and some other guy keep singing it over and over at this guys wedding and irritate the heck out of him. Thought you might enjoy that SNL skit.
Hmmm. I liked a lot of the songs listed here. Oh, well. We all have our opinions and I'm mature enough to handle it. Bunch of poo-poo heads.
djdaffy1227 6-06-01, 10:56 AM lol @ Shakey
And what is he singing about in "Turning Japanese", anyway? My innocent virgin ears wonder..haha. nevermind. I know what it is.
And I know a lot of people like this song, but "whip it" from Devo always annoyed me. I don't know the artist to this one. I love the music, but I hate the lyrics. "88 lines and 44 women". he ruined a good tune he had there. Who wants to hear about how many he's had? All I can think of is "Quick, get to the clinic and have it checked out!". Those women didn't sound too great. haha

djdaffy1227 6-06-01, 11:40 AM That was by the Nails. I was gonna play that on my New Wave special until I realized he said s*** about 4 times in the song. I alaways wondered what "She bop" by Cyndi Lauper was about. haha
edcarden 6-06-01, 12:28 PM Gotta say that New Kids best showed how to make bad music. I liked (and still do) PLease Don't Go Girl, the first song they did. From there it went down hill, particularly when they tried to go with the "Were Tough" image when they released "Hangin Tough". You need to stick with what you do best. NKOTB would have been better off to have stuck with teeny bopper love songs. Imagine if other artists tried to change their music to project a differnt image.
That song "what does sex mean to me?" on the new wave station always creeps me out. His voice is all shaky and weird.
I must have missed that 'Turning Japanese' song in the 80's, but goodness knows I have heard it enough on that TV commercial. It is awful!! I liked 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' the first 50 times; and then the second day, I was sick of it. I loved 'Parents just Don't Understand' by Will Smith because it was funny, but it got too much airplay, too. On radio and MTV.
COOL BREEZE 6-06-01, 03:48 PM BAD SONG:"I KNOW WHAT BOYS LIKE"-RomeoVoid
with that "nah nah na nah na" like vocals yuck! although I liked 'A Girl in Trouble" &
"Never say Never "is one of my favorite 80's
songs not much radio play though...must be the use of the "F-word"
George Michael Gay? NO not George Michael
Who knew? All of us straight guys! Topcat
you must me a girl. I can't tell you how many times I tried to tell girls that he, and
many more in the business were! I guess you
ladies don't want to think that about cute guys? Well, here's a couple more for the
record hang on to your hats girls!
Keanu Reeves, Tom Cruise,Richard Greico and Leonardo Dicaprio I know these for a fact.
I'm not gay("Not that there's anything wrong with that!") I have a gay friend in the acting business. Anyway
"Wake Me Up" Oh God yeah what a bad song!
"Turning Japanese" & "She Bop" hmmm speaking
of masterbation how about a TOP 10 list of Masturbation songs I'll keep the ball rolling
"Captain Jack"-Billy Joel(WHO IS AWESOME BY THE FRICKIN" WAY!)
HAHHAAHHHAHHHAHa Hope these commments
brighten your day or at least inspire you
to post a message!
COOL BREEZE
djdaffy1227 6-06-01, 04:31 PM "I know what boys like" is by the Waitresses not Romeo Void.
I was never much into Tom Cruise or Leonardo. And I never thought George Micheal was cute. I liked 'the other guy'..Andrew. lol
Hopefully you won't say my man Harrison's not straight. He might party a lot, but he's a hopeless romantic, in my humble opinion. I don't think there's anything wrong with whatever floats your boat, either. I think honesty is nice, though, especially while dating someone.

ImSoooSure 6-07-01, 04:11 AM Thanks Djdaffy, I thought my Romeo Voidometer was broken for a min. there.
As for the gay actors, I guess some of us gals have a hard time admiting some good lookin' guys are gay and some guys have a hard time admiting some good lookin' girls are NOT gay!
A post in another subject reminded me of this one (can't believe I forgot about it):
"Shaddupa Your Face" by that Joe guy.
That really annoyed me. A LOT.
Actually, so did the song "Ti Amo" by Umberto Tozzi. I think every girl on the school bus used to sing that song every frickin' day.
No anti-italian theme here. Just that one reminded me of the other.
nolanbuc 6-09-01, 04:22 AM I think alot of these songs annoyed us because the radio played them to death, but one song that bugged me from the frickin' get-go was "Dog Police" by the Dog Police. What were they smoking?
One other that bothered me was "Rocking the Casbah" by the Clash.
Nikki_91 6-13-01, 12:26 AM Most annoying song(s) of the 80's..I HATED "Jeopardy"..(I lost on Jeopardy, baby). That song makes me cringe, so does any NKOTB song. Oh and that song "Cars" by Gary Neuman..and "Pop Muzic" by "M". Ugh, I hate those songs!!!!! They're so annoying..
haha! these replies are so funny, because I agree with a lot of them. "pop music" and "Cars",,i never liked those, but they were on ALL the time,,and everyone around me sang them ALL the time when they weren't on.
i think '8675309' was good the first two times. Then it was played on the radio every 5 mins. so that wasn't fun.
djdaffy1227 6-13-01, 12:32 PM I did a new wave special on my 80's show here and the first two songs I played were "pop muzik" (technically #1 in 1979) and "cars". I felt they were the two songs that brought new wave to the main stream in the U.S. I couldn't NOT play them.
I am totally on Vilji's side with that 'Cars' song. UGH! There is a country song called 'Shut Up and Drive'. Maybe that girl was talking to him!! LOL
djdaffy1227 6-13-01, 03:12 PM "Shut up and drive" was by Chely Wright. My single white Goddess! I'm going to see her in a couple of months at a free concert. Some guy won a contest where the grand prize was a free concert by Chely. I'd like to shake his hand because she is gorgeous.
Ummm..Most annoying song (I can't think of any specifically for the 80's I am sorry ) but ugh do I HATE "Who let the dogs out" I know its not 80's but that is the only song that I can really say I hate. But "Don't worry be happy" comes real close too.
How about "Kokomo"? I used to hate "Sister Christian", (and it was always competing with D2's "Is there Something I Should Know" on my local radio stations top 10 at 10.) But if I hear it now, I dont cringe. They just played it to death, and now if I hear it, it just brings me back to that time of my life.

I am not terribly fond of that song either. I was watching my favourite soccer team win ANOTHER cup final this year (Liverpool won three this year - Uefa, League and F.A.) and I was distressed to hear the fans singing "Who let the Reds out?". I was so embarrassed. How can we go from "You'll Never Walk Alone" to that kind of stuff.

Pebbles42 6-29-01, 04:34 PM Anything by New Kids On The Block! My best friend in high school made me go to a concert at Six Flags Great America. All the girls were screaming and standing on the benches...ugh...I sat down!
Billy Idol's version of Money Money, they play that a lot on our 80's station and it's annoying
Don't Worry, Be Happy
Don't remember if it was late 80's or not, but Paula Abdul's music (except for one song that my then best male friend and I used to sing together--damn I can see the video!!)
The Police--sorry, never got into them at all, except for Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
dirt_worshipper 6-30-01, 04:03 AM Hmmmmm.....most annoying song.....Well that don't worry be happy song is one of them...but at the moment i can't think of anymore. Eck, oh well.....maybe it's because the number of good songs out weigh the bad ones big time.... -Sarah >^._.^<
wavemaster 7-04-01, 04:49 AM Can´t fix this on only one song...
Back then, everything which was displaying a guitar "too hard", Metal...once a friend which was riding with me in my car inserted a tape of SLAYER - boy, you should´ve seen the expression on his face when I´ve set a new record in ejecting the tape and flinging it back to the luggage compartment of my station wagon...
Today, I´m more tolerable about nearly every kind of music...
Another puking inducers...Wham´s "Wake Me Up" - this gruesome blending of Rock´N´Roll always gave me the creeps...
Katrina And The Waves "Walking On Sunshine" - a good reason to leave the disco for some fresh air...
Modern Talking in general - seeing the girls melting away for those zombies made me always laughing hard before I threat the DJ...
Oh man....I like a lot of the songs mentioned here - actually a lot of them are among my faves!
I find it easier to list the thousands of songs I liked than the few (??) I didn't like, but at present I can only agree with disliking "Don't Worry, Be Happy" and....Modern Talking has got to be the worst thing that ever came out of Germany...(apart from all the "Schlager" songs...)
Don't we all have CDs/records in our collections that seemed excellent back then but now we cringe at the thought that we ever liked them? Or is that just me? A lot of the songs that have been mentioned were hugely popular - even NKOTB - let's face it - and no matter how much we'd all like to deny it I'm sure we could all sing along to most of the songs mentioned here ...hehe

I have to agree. They overplayed it then and still do on the 80's station I listen to.
I guess someone likes this song, because they keep playing it on the 80's station I listen to.
"Warm Leatherette" by The Normal
It brings to mind images of some guy dancing in fishnets and leather or something. Thanks to the way the techno music and the guy's repetitive voice sounds.
djdaffy1227 7-05-01, 07:34 PM The worst part about it, Vilji, is that song came out in 1979. It's not even an 80's song!
Unfortunately, Radio stations hire consultants who do music tests. The songs that rate higher get added. This means, basically, that radio plays to the lowest common denominator of listener. A listener such as myself gets screwed in the end. I'd rather hear a good "forgotten" song on the radio over say "Mony Mony" or "Come on Eileen". I say this but I also realize that ratings are top priority so I understand why it is done. Most listeners will only listen to what they know. I would really love to be a consultant.

I like that song.......it was big at the clubs I went to in the late 80s. I don't think I ever heard it on the radio.
Tj, you'd probably like the station I listen to on the net. (and no commercials.)
it's on the new Windows Media. (along with some other good 80's stations.)
it's 'cablemusic.com' new wave.
i love it. they don't usually play the overheard songs, like "mony mony or "come on eileen", thank goodness
Thanks for the link Vilji, I will check it out.
This thread has been a scream to read! Thanks for the chuckles, all. I really needed that.
Here's Mary's most annoying list... in some cases, I don't remember the actual title or the artist... I've probably blocked them out to protect my fragile sanity. You can fill me in if you want to.
"I wanna know what love is" - Gah!!
"I will always love you" - Whitney Houston, early 90s, I know. Still, double gah! Recently, I saw a clip from Moulin Rouge on ET featuring this song, and it almost stopped me from seeing the movie. Ditto with "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" and Shrek.
"Downtown Train" - Rod Stewart. It never really bugged me until I heard Tom Waits' version, which kicks Rod's ass. Go, songwriters!
"I just called to say I love you" - Lionel Richie.
Count me as another one annoyed by "Don't Worry Be Happy." I still like Bobby McFerrin, though. I saw him conduct the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra a few times in college, and he was marvelous. His "Wizard of Oz" skit is so very funny.
Early 90s - "Jump Around" by House of Pain. The song really isn't so bad, but there's a story here. My school bus driver always let us bring tapes on the bus, (he was almost deaf... lucky Mr. Whitmore!!) and I got on the bus last, so I never got a turn to play my tape. (Probably the Pretenders at the time ) Every damn day in 12th grade, when I got on the bus... "Jump Around! Jump Around!"
"Steppin' Out" by Joe (Jackson.) Amazon keeps putting his greatest hits in my Recommendations, and I swear they're only doing it to torture me. *g*
"Chuckie's in Love." Rickie Lee Jones. Me too. Heh!
"Kokomo" - Beach Boys. Like fingernails on a blackboard. And I even own the Cocktail soundtrack. Poor me!
"Rhythm of the Night" - Debarge... it irritated me when I was a kid, but I find myself perversely drawn to it now. I hadn't heard the song in about 5 years, until a couple days ago... I didn't remember which song it was, or which verse would come next, but I was singing along in the car anyway... I knew all the words. It was like being possessed. *hides*
I'd better stop before I get more of these doozies stuck in my head.
Romeo Voidometer... ROFLMAO!

I'm with you TJ. Warm Leatherette was a pretty popular club track here also in the 80s. It pops up on about half the 80s compilations that I've seen.
Just one question: How did Vilji know about the fishnets?
I'm sure Dieter would love that song, too.
(And who can resist him?!)
it's probably a girl thing.
what about that song, "sugar and spice, isn't it nice?" where he talks about turning some young girl into his sex slave on a leash? that's sick! lol. as if!

Sorry for replying that late...seems that my All-Watching-Magical Eye doesn´t work properly. Damn Japanese optics...
A little stab in your back, he he...Denmark didn´t do better - two words: LAID BACK !
"Sunshine Reggae" was repeated each day until I was ready to beg for (lifelong) vacation on Alcatraz, and "Bakerman"...still can´t get over those "lyrics"...
"The Bakerman / is baking bread...the nighttrain is coming / better keep on running..." - those 4 lines were enough for a song! That´s close to lyrical Punk! Good thing that they´re pumping out some hits only each 15 years or so...
But, you are perfectly right about Modern talking and German Schlagermusik - if that were our only things we could export, boy, Germany would be that poor...
I have dozens of (Maxi-)CD´s in stock that I´ve never heard again since they were kinda hip those times, but I also don´t have the heart to sell them...

Laid Back...aaagghhh....*lol* Thanks for reminding me!
I actually know more about Modern Talking than I know about Laid Back because I didn't grow up in Denmark - I've only lived in Denmark for 9 years. 80sTrivia 7-11-01, 01:45 PM Planet Retrograde on sonicnet.com plays mostly alternative rock/new wave and they play a wide variety of songs. I usually keep this station up when I'm on the net...
soundofherwings 7-22-01, 01:34 PM good thing - fine young cannibals (good call!)
wild wild west - I have no idea who this is by but whoever it is..must be tracked down and beaten silly.
simply irresistable - robert palmer (UGH! this song! noooooooo!)
anything by roxette!
pass the dutchie - musical youth! *covers ears*
shaddup you face - joe dolce (I'm not sure if the rest of the world ever experienced this song..but I can tell you now that if you haven't you're a lucky bastard! )
do you really want to hurt me - culture club (too..slow..)
a good heart- feargal sharkey (words cannot begin to express the pain I feel when this song comes on)
ANYTHING by RICK ASTLEY! lol.
mull of kin-something..by wings. (oh god..)
the final countdown - europe (I was always counting down for the song to finish!)
..hmm..and I thought this list was gonna be short. lol.
haha.
(thanks for making me laugh.) those were great.
(a couple i like, but i have to agree about "Good thing" and "Simply irresistable". "Addicted to love" annoys me, too. He did a really good song before he got very famous. Less commercial-sounding: "Looking for clues". That one's pretty good.
I cannot stand "Walkin on sunshine"!!! I had to laugh when i saw "High Fidelity" and that song was in it and how it totally made John Cusack go berserk. My sentiments exactly.

Actually, I think Bobby Mcferrin was like that when he wrote that song. Or he wrote it for someone who was. (i think.)
I didn't know B. Joel was ever that down and out. damn.
I don't thik he was.I think it was his way of perventing it.
djdaffy1227 7-25-01, 12:07 PM Bear,
He has spoken of the time on many interveiws, he really was that down and that is where the song came from.
pinkblueicelipstick 7-31-01, 04:25 AM How about "Gloria" Laura Branigan, "Night and Day" Al B. Sure, "Rico Suave", Gerardo, and Dear God!! anything by Belinda Carlisle...Cant stand someone whining !!! YUCK!!!
Dancingdoll1986 8-01-01, 03:05 PM pinkblueicelipstick (love the name!!)
I hated Gloria! (the song)
Every time I hear it, I think of Flashdance, when Alex's ice skating friend, Jeannie, keeps falling down. I get so aggravated that she fell, so when I hear it, I get pissed.

Heh!! I'll top that, I was actually /in/ "Chess" in college, (tech crew) so I got to listen to 20 of my closest friends sing it every night for 3 months. Help!
The most annoying song in the show, to me, was "Heaven Help My Heart." I kind of liked "Nobody's Side," it summed up my bitter world view in 1994.

I always liked that song. I thought the lyrics were very clever. The whole chess game metaphor thing always kinda impressed me (I know that doesn't mean much lol). I never saw the musical Chess that spawned the song. Must remember to look it up sometime.
heavenly_1970 8-01-01, 08:29 PM The most annoying song of the 80's for me was "puttn' on the ritz" YUCK! http://www.plauder-smilies.de/yellows/hmh.gif
Dancingdoll1986 8-01-01, 11:31 PM The worst song that I remember from the 80's would have to be Whip It....it just repeated the same 4 sentances (or so, I am not good at math!), and it drove me batty!!
~G
Nikki_91 8-05-01, 07:27 PM Just to mention another annoying song...RIP Falco, but "Rock Me Amedeus"..was too annoying. Oh yeah, does anyone remember when the Bears were going to the Superbowl in '86 and they had that damn song "The Superbowl Shuffle"? I think I was living in Alabama when that song came out.
Brand1974 8-05-01, 10:38 PM Well, while I do agree with some of the songs mentioned, I have to add a song that I just can't stand
TOY SOLDIERS- MARTIKA
SHAKE YOUR LOVE- DEBBIE GIBSON
Just to name two of them! That, and I am too tired to think of anymore to list, but TOY SOLDIERS, I cannot stand.
Poison PJ 8-05-01, 10:50 PM How Could Toy Soldiers By Annoying That Song Has Some Great lyrics And it full of emotion
"step by step
heart to heart.
left, right, left
we all fall down.
like toy soldiers..'
...but the battle wages on..")
so true..
i love that song!
(sorry, couldn't resist.)
it is deep.
i like that one and,
'i love you more than you know..'
she was cool. wonder what's become of her..
Nikki_91 8-06-01, 12:33 AM Toy Soldiers...Martika said that song was about Boy George and his addiction to heroin.
I have to admit that song is annoying......
Boy George?
well, sometimes it's best not knowing what it's about. lol. yeah, i'd say he might be annoying.
(nah, i'm sure he means well.)
i thought it could be applied to lots of life's situations. ok, i'll quit rambling about it.
Hbrad1977 8-13-01, 08:55 PM Hey, I liked Rick Astley!!
Annoying songs:
Don't worry be happy
White Wedding-Billy Idol
Our House
That one by Herbie Handkock-Robot?
and
Mexican Radio
Prefab Sprouter 3-06-03, 08:10 AM Most annoying songs eh?
Well Dont worry be happy is up there with the best of them!!!
Also consider
The Birdie Song
Agadoo - Black Lace

Rod Stewart - Do Ya Think I'm Sexy
Anything by the Rolling Stones in the 80's
George Harrison - I've got my mind set on you

I have to agree about the Taco "Puttin on the Ritz" being annoying also.
I also find "I Wanna be a Cowboy" pretty dumb too

I totally agree with you on both of these songs, Very annoying songs:hammer:
Rhelawen 3-06-03, 04:38 PM Hehe, interesting thread. The one song that comes to mind for me is Love Shack by the B-52's. :hammer: No particular reason, other than that song just makes me want to hit some(one)thing every time I hear it.
outofplacechild 3-06-03, 05:15 PM Puttin' on the schiz...
Looking back at this from two years, I noticed I listed Billy Joel. This is odd, considering I listed him in my list of favorite 80s artists in another thread.
Okay, strike Billy Joel from my previous list.
Sincerely,
John "outofplacechild" Kilduff
'80s Aztec 3-08-03, 08:59 PM Break My Stride by um, you know, that guy. Don't Worry, Be Happy was bad, too.
My pick, though...
Kokomo, by the Beach Boys! God, why can't I forget that horror? That one was enough to make me envy the deaf.
Christine 3-09-03, 01:37 AM Obviously, the most annoying song of the 80's is "Don't Worry, Be Happy". It's interesting how that song makes you want to smash something, when the purpose is evidently to make you happy you have the fortune to listen to such a wonderful song.
Brand1974: That video clip reminds me of the time Ray Lewis got pancaked by Dan Kreider! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!:lol::lol:
Dexys Midnight Runners 'Come On Eileen' :hammer:
Human League 'Don't You Want Me' :hammer:
Elaine Page & Barbara Dickson: 'I Know Him So Well' :hammer:
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Glenn Gulia 3-18-03, 10:42 AM I can't stand Come on Eileen the song or the video.Don't worry be happy is number 2 on the list.
it seems 'Don't worry be happy' is on everyone's least favortie. as for me besides the aformentioned (sp?) song i have to say anything from the GTA: vice city sound track. There is oh so many times I can listen to 'And I ran' or 'Africa' without wanting to break the damn playstation or the stereo..
LOSTNTHE80S 3-18-03, 01:20 PM CLOSE MY EYES FOREVER (OZZY OSBOURNE & LITA FORD)
18 & LIFE (SKID ROW)
SEND ME AN ANGEL (REAL LIFE)
FAST CAR (TRACEY CHAPMAN)
BACK ON THE CHAIN GANG (PRETENDERS)
THE SAFETY DANCE (MEN WITHOUT HATS)
WALK OF LIFE (DIRE STRAITS)
MATERIAL GIRL (MADONNA)
Culture Club Freak 3-19-03, 03:55 PM turning japanese :yucky:
RedRocketRetro 3-22-03, 08:04 PM I'm absolutely sick of
Let it Go - Luba & Rise Up - Parachute Club
murohamma 5-17-03, 09:41 PM I guess it is "Eye of the tiger" by Survivor. And i can't stand the video...
Mr. Badd 5-18-03, 04:01 PM Buffalo Girls - Malcolm McClarren
BlueMolly2001 5-18-03, 04:12 PM Most of the songs listed here i actually like. :p I guess you won't be coming to my house if I play any of these songs. :)
The song I can't stand, and I used to love:
Promises, Promises - Naked Eyes
Blitzburgh87 5-18-03, 04:13 PM "do you really want to hurt me"by culture club.
these are great,
"Eye of the Tiger", "Promises, Promises" and "Don't you want me?" definitely on my top annoying list.
"I want to be a cowboy" is another one.
lol
(maybe 'cause it reminds me of an ex boyfriend.)
:p
I didn't like the "Don't worry, be happy" song until I read an interview with the guy, and he said he was being completely sarcastic about it.
I can hear it differently now.
leeney_b 5-29-03, 12:14 AM As much as I love the eighties, there r a number of songs that are really annoying. Here r the songs that first come to mind:
1. Caribbean Queen by Billy Ocean
2. Tarzan Boy by Baltimora
3. Radio gaga by Queen
4. Mr. Roboto by Styx....yuck, domo arigato mr. roboto...im having goosebumps!
5. Kokomo by The Beach boys
6. Square rooms by Al Corley
7. Walking On Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves...a poor boy's Pretenders
8. any song by Survivor, Debbie Gibson (i get lost in your eyes...eeeewww!!!), Laura Branigan, and Modern Talking
9. Black Horse or White Horse by Laid Back...still cant get the title right
As a long time DJ, the most annoying song in my opinion is, "Summer of '69" - Bryan Adams. I swear, if one more person requests that damn song, I'll explode!
Anything by Fine Young Cannibals & Taylor Dayne annoy me! Oh, and Aaron Neville too. Remember that duet he did with Linda Ronstat? UGH! Awful! :yucky:
ThunderVamp9 6-12-03, 09:45 AM You guys list NOTHING!
Give me "Don't Worry, Be Happy". I'll take a 365 day long block of "Kokomo". Oh, I'll jam to "I Wanna Be A Cowboy", no problem! "One Night In Bangkok" isn't enough! "Come On Eilleen" again and again! Whatever you've listed here, I'll have three of as long as I NEVER AGAIN in my LIFE have to ever hear...
"Shiny Shiny" by Haysi Fantayzee
This song makes me want to hit my head against brick or concrete surfaces, gouge out my eyes, rip off my ears and hurt my dog.
This song makes me want to invent time travel and go back to the time before this song was written, to before the writers were born and KILL THEIR PARENTS!
Wanna torture someone? Want information about Saddam? Fly over Iraq playing this song, they'll be lining up in droves to hand him over, screaming "Please God, make it STOP!!!"
I hate Shiny Shiny.........

Oh but I thought you LOOOVED shiny shiny hon! LMFAO! Hey, if you wanna make MY ears bleed play Bolton. Or that horrible Marianne Faithful song....
Prefab Sprouter 6-12-03, 10:41 AM Haysi Fantaze had another cracker of a song entitled: John Wayne (Big Leggee)!!
RockBoy83 6-12-03, 04:18 PM My least favorite hits of the 80's include the following:
Ebony and Ivory (Paul McCartney/Stevie Wonder) - this lame song became a hit because it is a duet of two established superstars.
Oh Sheila (Ready for the World) - Yuck!
Batdance (Prince) - The Artist (or whatever he's called these days) has had many excellent hits during his recording career, but this ever-irritating load of noise cruised to the #1 spot just because of all the hype surrounding the "Batman" movie at the time.
RockBoy83
Opheliarose 6-12-03, 06:29 PM I can't remember if I posted to this thread or not - But in case I didn't that Song by Human League - Don't you want me, Makes me sick every time I hear it :yucky:
Ok like I thought of another one- I can't think of the Singers name, but the song was called Missing You!!(I an'it missing you- seen you been gone away:yucky: Man I can't take that song!! And Wake me up before you Go-Go just makes me *gag*
To-day, I'll go with anything by Motley Crue. Poison is pretty bad too. I can't stand most Hair Bands.
Besides Hair Bands, I'll throw in John Waite, Sheriff, Bob Seger, Glass Tiger, a lot of Peter Gabriel's songs and Genesis/Phil Collins (not all of them, mind you), and that "Shiny Shiny" song!!!

 Let's cyber-kiss and cyber-make-up. Hair Bands are not worth getting aggravated about :) :) :) Unless it has anything to do with Motley Crue!!! :D
ElectricYouth 6-13-03, 06:05 PM Actually, I don't think any 80s songs are annoying. I like them all.
Except for anything by Morrisey. GOD WHAT A WHINER!
Iluvthe80s 6-13-03, 06:40 PM I finally thought of an 80's song that annoys me....Rock Lobster by the B-52's. That song really bugs me!
electronic BEATS 6-17-03, 03:03 PM Looks as if most of the bad ones have been mentioned, but I'll throw in Bronski Beat's "Ain't Necessarily So." Can't STAND this awful song! Sad thing is, "Smalltown Boy" is actually a pretty fine tune.
And I could jam out to Boys Don't Cry's "I Wanna Be a Cowboy" any day!

Everything by the B-52's bothers me!
Hey Electronic Beats, I agree with you, "Aint necessarily so" was an awful song, unlike "Smalltown Boy".
Foreigner 7-11-03, 02:17 AM LOVE SHACK ALL THE WAY...URGH
VENUS-BANANRAMA for some wierd reason
DONT WORRY BE HAPPY..
Most annoying songs of the 80's...
Even though I listen to it once in a while for a laugh, The Waitresses "I Know What Boys Like."
And for some reason, a lot of 60's and 70's bands put out some really annoying songs in the 80's so they could get on Mtv.
Billy Joel -- Uptown Girl
ZZ Top -- Sharp Dressed Man, She's Got Legs
Starship -- We built this City
Styx -- Mr. Roboto
And I think most Richard Marx songs are annoying.
mary_darko 1-31-04, 05:32 AM That's one of my favorites. It is about his suicide attempt.
I think the most annoying song of the 80's was "Don't worry be happy"
me too me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
StarCatcher22 2-03-04, 03:04 PM Don't worry, *thwak* :dammit: be happy, *thwak* :dammit: do dot do do do dodododo :dammit: BAD, bad, bad! man! :tsk:
Ok IMO....Come on Eileen-Dexy's Midnight Runners. Sorry if some of you like it, but everytime I hear it I get chills up my spine, don't know why, never have liked it :yucky:
Glenn Gulia 2-03-04, 04:58 PM Ok IMO....Come on Eileen-Dexy's Midnight Runners. Sorry if some of you like it, but everytime I hear it I get chills up my spine, don't know why, never have liked it
I hate Come on Eileen :barf: :barf:
:argh:
I'm so Totally apalled at all the songs that are listed as giving people a gag reflex! I love them all!! Ok, the song I really hate and can't stand to hear, "Pass the Dutchie" :bonk:
Adrienne
galaga-girl 2-07-04, 05:38 AM I can't stand it when "Angel in the Centrefold" comes on the TV or Radio - that song is so annoying!
Also "Don't worry be happy" Very annoying tune
Most of the stuff by the B-52s (don't like them better after seeing them before Def Leppard summer '03). Don't care too much for "Power of Love", either. The ones I hate worse are the ones that are easy to make fun of that I can't keep myself from singing along with and cranking when I'm in the car...in no particular order:
I'll Remember You - Skid Row
Poison - Alice Cooper
She's a Beauty - The Tubes
and FWIW, I like "One Night in Bangkok" and "Final Countdown" is my ringtone. I had to change it from 99 Luftballoons after I actually heard someone else with MY ringtone.
mickeyintexas 2-18-04, 02:12 PM For obvious reasons I am going to say the song “Mickey”.
ValleyGirl 2-18-04, 02:22 PM Everybody Wang Chung Tonight and also anything by the B52's
Now VG.. lay off the 52's now.. LOVE SHACK is a CLASSIC hahaha
HEY MICKEY by Toni Basil was HORRIFIC... and the video SUCKED TOO... YUK!!!
Brand1974 2-18-04, 05:12 PM I don't mind the B-52's actually, but some of their tunes I get sick of after a while.
I know I posted in this thread before a long time ago, but here are some other tunes I don't like.
Mickey by Tony Basil is one of them, now that some recent posters just reminded me.
I also think the song Money, That's What I Want by The Flying Lizards is one of the most god awful tunes put out there. What was the label company thinking, better yet what were The Flying Lizards thinking. Maybe that's why you never heard from them again.
Peek a Boo by Siousxie and the Banshees flat out SUCKS I actually like some of their songs like Cities and Dust, The Passenger, and Dear Prudence but Peek a Boo is horrendous. I have to turn it down if it airs on Flashback Radio.
Flashbackradio has turned me on to more Styx, but I have to agree with some others on here, that Mr Roboto is not one of my favorites by them.
Oh yeah, and most of the teen pop idols in the 80s (Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, NKOTB, etc) were rather annoying as well, IMO! :barf:
