I think this is a cool story.
MURRAY, Neb. - It was worth it, said the principal who ate the worms — five of them. Conestoga Elementary School pupils responded to a reading goal from their principal, Ryan Lindquist, and librarian Jan Madsen.

The challenge: If the 294 pupils read a total of at least 100 million words this school year, the principal will do something crazy.

Madsen came up with the crazy worm idea from a book, Thomas Rockwell's "How to Eat Fried Worms."

The pupils reached the word goal, so principal Lindquist, second-grade teacher Sharon Heneger and Conestoga fifth-grader Jerad Leifeld all committed to the unsavory snack.

Heneger figured that worms probably would taste better battered and fried, so Gov. Dave Heineman and state Sen. Roger Wehrbein dropped by Wednesday for chef duties.

Several condiments were on hand, but Lindquist stuck to Grey Poupon mustard and teriyaki sauce.

What did the worms taste like? Lindquist said he couldn't describe them, other than they did not taste like chicken.

And for dessert? Gummy worms, naturally.

Geez, couldn't he think of something a little crazier than that? That's definately NOT something I'd want to do. It's great that the kids reached their goal though. The kids today would rather watch tv or play video games instead of reading a good book.
