Great list, Joe. My list of forgotten hits would have to include:

"Invisible" by Alison Moyet
"Don't Talk to Me About Love" by Altered Images
"Respectable" by Mel & Kim
"It's My Life" by Talk Talk
"Come Out Fighting" by Easterhouse
and the list could go on further...

oh god MDC i could have gone on forever-its all unashamedly pop music-as opposed to any other genre but thats the kind of stuff i love.
i once did a radio show for a month on a community radio station and was fortunate enough to be able to borrow pretty much any song i wanted-it was pure self indulgenence and it was great!

is ther any on the list you're not familiar with?
and do you remember "your honour by pluto (shervington)?

Actually, there were a few songs on your list that I don't quite recall, Joe... I was madly in love with British 80s pop when I was a kid, and I would buy tons of singles on import from Britain. I actually have a vinyl copy of Strawberry Switchblade's album in my collection!!! I love England, and my sister and I will be flying to London this October!!!

Okay, I don't think I know more than one or two bands much less any of the songs. Was I sheltered or what? Seriously, I was more into rock than pop. There's a whole slew of forgoten hits in that genre as well. And, I might add, a large portion of them were by British performers. Even though I wasn't "into" pop music at the time, I will hear a pop song from that time and it still transports me back to what I was doing when that song was popular. The music, the look, the image, the time were all so unique that it is hard to forget the musicians or what was going on at the time a certain song was released.
Great topic, Joe, thanks!

Hi Joe and welcome to 80sXchange!

This seems like a good topic for 'The 80's List' forum, so I've moved it on down there. To get there from here, just click the red link up at the top left http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

I can honestly say that "Taco" Puttin on the ritz" was the ONLY song that I know from those lists... very obscure hits!!! I guess I was more Metal, Rock and Top 40...

The Curly Shuffle - Jump N' The Saddle Band

Fine, Fine Day - Tony Carey
Living In Desperate Times - Olivia Newton- John

Just a few off of the top of my head.

Forgotten 80's- I could go on and on and list more than 100, but some I want to call attention to are:
Shelter- Lone Justice
Burning Flame- Vitamin Z
Forever Young- Alphaville
Heaven- Eurogliders
Should I See- Frozen Ghost
Everywhere I Go- The Call
Breakaway- Big Pig
Wouldn't It Be Good- Nik Kershaw

Unbelievably, none of these songs cracked the Top 40 in the U.S. I'm still amazed "Shelter" was never a bigger hit. I think it could still chart today. It's surprising it hasn't at least been covered by Sarah Mclaughlan or one of the other "Lilith Fair" artists.

I love that song from Big Pig. I lost their tape, though. "One is one, and two is two, you are me and I am you.... I can't break away!"
A lot of these songs you all mentioned I hear on the internet stations. They aren't choppy, either. Talk Talk, Nik Kershaw, Stephen Tin Tin, and that song "Girls" are a few on the new wave stations. They also play Laurie Anderson "Oh Superman" and Lene Loviche, "Lucky Number",,etc..If anyone's interested, they're on the new Windows Media player. Type in 'search' and '80's music'. You'll get all kinds of stations. The only ones that are reliable and not choppy for me personally are Cablemusic.com and netradio.com 'new wave'. And net radio '80's hits'.They play one of my lost favorites- "Hang the sign up on the door. It says, 'don't disturb this groove.."

Billy Idol had some of the best songs that weren't on the top 40 in the 80's. "When I realise that you need love too..Forgot to be a lover!" They play that on the netradio 80's,also. And Charlie Sexton "Beat's so lonely,,I bet it's lonely at the top..So lonely.." I love this stuff!

I loved Charlie Sexton, Vilji. In fact, I live in his hometown. During my teenage years he played in the local clubs a lot (and still does) and I would go see him. He also had a younger brother named Will that played around here that I used to go see all the time too. His band was called Will and the Kill.

Oh my God! I never even heard of most of these artists that you people listed. Just when I think I know everything about the 80's, somebody else that I never heard of gets mentioned here. Well, I was born in 1980, so if I was older I might have caught some of these more obscure songs.

Well here's my list of stuff that never gets played anymore, but it will mostly be from more known singers:

Living In Sin- Bon Jovi
One Step Up- Bruce Springsteen
I'm Goin' Down- Bruce Springsteen
Cadillac Ranch- Bruce Springsteen
Sex As A Weapon- Pat Benatar
One Night Love Affair- Bryan Adams
Hearts On Fire- Bryan Adams
Heat Of The Night- Bryan Adams
Change Of Heart- Cyndi Lauper

I still hear Frozen Ghost on the radio quite a bit. They usually play alot of old Canadian 80's songs on Canadian radio quite a bit these days :)
