View Full Version : Happy Songs
80sTrivia 4-18-01, 01:44 PM What songs do you guys like to listen to when you are feeling down and depressed and in need of a lift? My list would have to include:
1) "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina & The Waves
2) "New Song" by Howard Jones
3) "Goodbye to You" by Scandal
4) "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) by Whitney Houston
5) "Pop Goes the World" by Men Without Hats
Whenever I'm sad or blue, I can just pop one of these tunes into my CD player, and, presto, instant happiness. Works better than Prozac, without the harmful side effects...

outofplacechild 4-21-01, 05:26 PM morningmyst,
Seeing the photo of the hamburger with the guitar from the movie "Better Off Dead" reminds me of the Van Halen song used in that scene.
VH's "Everybody Wants Some" is definitely a happy song.
Another one of VH's happy songs would have to be "Panama".
Somehow, David Lee Roth was more of a good-time guy than his replacement Sammy Hagar.

djdaffy1227 4-26-01, 08:32 PM La Bamba by Ritchie Valens was actually a 50's song but who's counting?
I run an 80's show on the local college radio station WERG Energy FM 90 and feature a segment called "The 10:50 forgotten 80's track" This past Wednesday I played "All around the world" by ELO and it made me so happy. My friend had the 45 and I used to go to his house with my 45's and we always had a great time.
You can hear the show Wednesday nights from 9-Mid EST at mmstudio.gannon.edu/werg/wergi.asx
I go by the name bob on the show. If you would like to request something e-mail me at WERG80SREWIND@aol.com
Oh thank you Dawn! How could I forget 'Cum On Feel The Noize' & 'You Shook Me All Night Long'. Can't say anything my Mental As Anything make me real happy, but like them anyway. *Because they're Australian!* http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Yaay! I hoped someone else would say "Neverending Story." Always brings a huge irrational grin to my face.
I'd like to add:
"Alex Chilton" - Replacements

Poison PJ 7-08-01, 04:03 AM Queensryche - Best I can
Dokken-Live To Rock
Poison-Nothin but A Good Time
Bon Jovi-Lay Your Hands On ME
VH-Dreams & Jump
Winger-Easy Come, Easy Go
Ratt-Way Cool Jr
Let's see. There's probably a few places that one of us should have mentioned these guys but this topic is probably the most fitting. I heard some of their stuff in the pub on the weekend and that brought them to mind.
Squeeze! Whenever I listen to them I actually hear laughter coming from Jools Holland's keyboards.
Pulling Muscles from a Shell
Annie, Get Your Gun
Slap and Tickle
Cool for Cats
Black Coffee in Bed
I'm sure there's a lot more that I can't think of right now.
Oh, and possibly the happiest song I've ever heard: Enjoy Yourself by the Specials.
"...Hello, my name's Terry and I'm going to enjoy myself first."
I have to confess that this song makes me laugh because I remember the gothic people and new wave ones dancing at the clubs to this. (along with the other people)
"I have my boots
on
I have my horse
ready.
His name is t-t-t Trigger,
ofcourse.
I want to be a cowboy
and you can be my cowgirl.
I want to be a cowboy.."
(always brings a smile)
Loreena Mckennit's music makes me happy, too.
and Deep Forest.
"and all the world is bisquit shaped.
it's just for me to give you space.
and I can see, touch smell and taste.
and I've got one,two,three,four,five.
senses working overtime.
try to take this all in.
i've got one,two,three,four,five.."
this one by XTC (playing now)makes me..uppity.

That would be "I Wanne Be A Cowboy" by Boys Don't Cry... this song is definitely a slice of 80s cheese!!!
wavemaster 7-10-01, 03:12 AM Hey...that song of Boys Donīt Cry was sorta cool...was a kind of our intro at a special bar - whenever we entered it, the DJ played this song next...
Iīd preferred the more sad or aggressive songs to the happier ones (and still do today), the shoegazer that I was, but here are some that made me smile (also...still do today...):

MC Miker G & DJ Sven - Holiday Rap
The Firm - Star Trekkinī
Video Kids - Woodpeckers From Space
Scotch - Disco Band
Francesco Napoli - Baila Baila
Cassandra Complex - What Turns You On?
Depeche Mode - Are People People? (Gosh...the guys mustīve been really drunken that day )

I don't know that song. Is there a connection with Faith No More's Woodpecker from Mars? Was one band doing a variation of the other?
"close to me" from the Cure makes me happier than "boys don't cry". (and I love the video of them going off the cliff into the ocean in a closet..
(he sounds sad in the other song
I just remembered another one. Has anyone mentioned the House Martins yet? They were always bloody happy. I think they would have been happy at the end of the world.
Caravan of Love
Happy Hour
Good old-fashioned fun stuff.

Hmm...I donīt think so.
That tune by Video Kids was a quirky upbeat, featuring high-pitched voices and Woodys typical laughing routine. I still canīt decide whether itīs funny or driving me insane...
this song on now always makes me feel good because of the music and her unique voice..
"I would like to climb
high in the trees.
I could be happy
i could be happy..
all of these things i do.
all of these things i do.
to get away from you.."

"sugar hiccup, hiccup
sugar hiccup..
or she reels..." Cocteau Twins
(not the misheard lyrics,
'sugar hiccups..
should i hook up my stereo?') haha
80sTrivia 7-12-01, 11:47 AM Forgotten 80s happy tune: "The Honey Thief" by Hipsway... heard this song this morning on Digital Comcast's "Retroactive" station, and was dancing around the room...
I think just about any Stock Aitken Waterman song makes me happy:
"Robert De Niro's Waiting" by Bananarama
"Special Star" by Dead or Alive
"I Should Be So Lucky" and "Turn It Into Love" by Kylie Minogue
"Too Many Broken Hearts" by Jason Donavon
"Together Forever" by Rick Astley
"Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now" by Samantha Fox
"I Owe You Nothing" by Bros
These guys knew how to create bubbling, happy pop tunes!

sarasunshine 7-16-01, 10:55 AM The ultimate happy feel good song...
"Stone In Love" by Journey
"I love you so.
and i cant let you go.
you'll always be
so precious to me-
hee, heeee.."
that's one of the happiest feel good songs i know
80sTrivia 7-19-01, 09:20 AM I should definitely add "Tenderness" by General Public to my list of songs that make me deliriously happy. Also, "True Blue" by Madonna puts me in a great mood. "Alive and Kicking" by Simple Minds can bring me out of the deepest depression, as can Janet Jackson's "When I Think of You".
Dancingdoll1986 8-01-01, 11:42 PM I loved Bananarama's "I Heard A Rumor". It just is fun to sing while driving in my convertable....hair flying, red lips, cool shades, miniskirt, tank top....letting all the truckers honk. Favorite part of summer!
