Which 80s girl group and songs were your favorites?

I think my favorite girl group from the 80s would have to be Expose, especially when Gioia was the lead singer. They had a host of Top 10 smash hits in the 80s and early 90s and my fave song from them is their Number One from 1988, "Seasons Change".

What girl groups did you enjoy? :)

Bananarama! They were hot. Even if it was mindless Stock/Aitken/Waterman pop - it was great mindless pop. Their greatest hits CD is still a lot of fun today. :)

I loved Bananarama, too, Flix. And you're right, it was mindless Stock/Aitken/Waterman fluff, but it makes me happy!!!

Just thought I'd let you know that Gioia's voice gave out, she couldn't sing anymore and that is why she left the group. The others had to go on without her. She is slowly trying to get her voice back into shape. She was recently on VH1's 'Where Are They Now?'.

It was the Go-Go's for me. They were just so California rockin' valley chicks! My favorite song from them is "We Got The Beat". Belinda Carlisle was always my favorite and on her solo album with her new look, she just blew me away!!! :)

The Go-Go's for me too. They were one of my inspirations for learning how to play bass guitar. My favorite song is "Our Lips Are Sealed".

I saw that WATK special, too, Trix. It was quite sad and heartbreaking to know that she lost that absolutely beautiful voice, but it was encouraging to see that she's making some progress on recovering her voice. Gioia still looks good, too!

Bananarama was probably my favorite girl group. "Cruel Summer" was a theme song for me one year.

I love the B52s but I guess that isn't really a girl group. So, I'd have to say The Go Gos. ;)

My favorite female group was Expose' followed closely by Bananarama, The Bangles, and then The Go-Go's.

I was attracted to Suzanna Hoffs eyes, she was so cute, still is!

I liked Vixen back in the late 80s. Songs like "How Much Love", "Edge Of A Broken Heart" and "Streets of Paradise" were some of my favorites. Their best album of all times, hands down, is "Tangerine". It came out in May of 1998. This was Vixen like you never have heard them before. Take away the pop/cute songs of the 80s and get ready for raw in your face rock. Good stuff!

I'm glad that someone out there loved Expose as much as I did, Sarg! They really were a fantastic trio with so many memorable hits in the 80s and I don't think they get the props that they deserve! I have their greatest hits on CD and play it all the time, (even though they put Kathy Moneymaker on the cover and no picture of Gioia! (

 )

This is just an observation, but the 80s girl groups were far better than the offerings of today. Admitedly, Destiny's Child are nice to look at, but in the talent department, they are no match for groups like Expose, the Go-Go's and the Bangles.

I agree with you 80sTrivia, the girl groups of the 80's are far superior than today's acts, but I think Destiny's Child are the best girl group today and they show promise. C'mon "don't ya think you're ready for that jelly?" :)

I don't know..I just can't get into any of these new girl groups or singers. They all sound the same to me. One thing I really miss is rocking women like Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, and Lita Ford. The only female I can think of right at the moment that still makes great music is Tina Turner. She never lets me down! :)

I also enjoyed quite a few of the freestyle girlie bands from the 80s, such as the aforementioned Expose, Company B, Sa-Fire, Candy and the Cover Girls. They had some great dance music, especially Company B, with "Fascinated" and "Full Circle". These girls always got me on the dance floor.

Going through my old LP's and cassettes last night and I found my Mary Jane Girls tape as well as my import LP for Strawberry Switchblade!!! Does anyone else remember them? ( ) They were two (self-described) witches from Scotland. Their one claim to fame is the single "Since Yesterday", which is featured on a number of New Wave CD compilations from the 80s. They had a very interesting sound and a very interesting look about them! ;)

I also like the Bananarama titles that you mentioned, Molly. Another song that I enjoy from Bananarama is their duet with Fun Boy Three, "It Ain't What You Do (It's the Way That You Do It)". I always got a kick out of that song, for some reason.
