I've never even heard of this one. Is this one of those "Civ" type games or more like "Everquest"? Kind of sounds like it is in that category.

Ted, i can beat the computer in a death match, my problem seems to be starting in the dark ages and advancing, I am never able to collect as many resources as my opponents (computer or human) and am always behind in both military, and civilizations, so i'm an easy target

What you might wanna try and do is create about 7 villagers and gather resources for a while. Don't get any new technologies or military units. Untill you hit castle age. then buy a few.

Ted if I do that , then I'm attacked by another civilization, and i usually try and get between 20 and 25 villagers collecting food and wood before I build a barracks and other military things :)

Make lotsa walls and towers. I guess then. I have no problem beating the computer on medium. After that it's near impossible! LOL

I normally take on about six enemy on the medium level, but against the computer only. Never played against a human.

I normally get up to about 20 villages to start with and build up walls and towers with a castle or two near the walls to act as extra defence.

Obviously playing against humans would be far harder than playing against the computer. The computer is pretty predictable.

I'm still trying to master AOE1, which i only recently started playing. I have got to try Age of Kings out soon, though. Any advice on AOE1?

The problem is, it's been such a long time ago since I played AOE, I'd mix the two games up and give you advice that applies to Age of Kings.

I do remember using my priests a lot however, especially when it came to converting buildings and elephants.

Ok, I finally got AOK and it rocks!
For some good tips (incl. a newbie forum :D) try this site (http://www.ageofkings.cc) .
At least one of the contributors is works for Ensemble Games (makers of AOE/AOK)

We'll have to have a Xchange battle royal online...after I get some practice - lol :D

All I ever read about Age of Kings is how hard it is. Is it worth investing in or should I stay away? I hate when games are so hard that you want to kill someone after an hour. I prefer a slow, steady learning curve.

I did enjoy Age of Empires though. Is this game worth my time and money?

Imagine AOE. Now imagine you married AOE, have 4 kids and double mortgage. That's AOK.
It was a bit frustrating at first, I tend to start slow & build for a crushing blow at the end. This leaves me open to early nitpicking attacks that distract me from my plan. Once I learned how to deal with that, i felt better about my chances. But if you hate micromanaging or having to memorize hotkeys....run away!

Has anyone ever actually built a wonder & won the game that way? Do the AI players go hell-bent after it?

OK, I will stay clear of that one then. The four kids alone was enough to convince me. Thanks buc.

I built a wonder in the moderate level (against one computer opponent) and they never came after me, I got so bored waiting I even tried to taunt the enemy to attack. that was the only time I ever tried to build a wonder

It's not bad, just intense! - lol!
I'm not a good multi-tasker, so it is hard for me sometimes. But if you liked AOE, AOK will be your dream game. Also, if you can handle AOE, you'll get the hang of AOK eventually.
Try this, Flix: go to this site (http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10044-100-1452224.html?tag=st.dl.10001-103-1.lst-7-1.1452224) to download the trial version for free. Take it out for a night on the town before you make a long-term commitment. :D

I thought you would win if you kept your wonder for a certain amount of time. Or do you have to set that condition in your game settings?
