View Full Version : Corey Hart - Reissue Petition
Good afteroon!
I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday. Anyway, some of you may have seen my Benjamin Orr reissue petition. I have created another, and more detailed one for Canadian Corey Hart.
This is directed to Toshiba-EMI and EMI Worldwide. I would like to see all of his EMI albums released with the b-sides, remixes, etc., and perhaps in the mini-LP sleeves, as they do in Japan.
For anyone interested, please follow the link below and sign your name.

Thanks,

This is true; however, several songs are missing. I'm not just talking about remixes and such, but b-sides that never made it to CD (at least not in most countries).
The following songs were either never released on CD or if so, in a limited fashion and only in certain countries:
Araby (She's Just A Girl) (removed from final edition of First Offense)
Don't Keep Your Heart (removed from final edition of First Offense)
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer (live)
My Brother's Leaving Today
Too Good To Be Enough
21
All I Ever Do (bonus track on Japanese version of BANg!)
I'd glady sell my current CDs to a used shop to get these more complete editions. Perhaps that's just me. I'd also like to encourage EMI to put out any demos that may have the rights to, including never released tracks.

I have a question about Rhino. It is my understanding that Rhino is a reissue arm of Warner Music. In which case, they would be a good candidate to reissue Corey's only Sire/Warner album, Attitude & Virture, with any related bonuses. Does Rhino get involved with other labels?

it does not have my favourite Corey tune 'Spot You in A Coalmine', which was a very big hit for him in 1988. Only reason I didn't buy that CD, but luckily it appears on his 1992 singles collection as well as the original 1988 'Young Man running' album :)

I believe Rhino Records was an Independent Label until purchased by Atlantic Records in the 1990s. I don't know what happened after that purchase. I do know that the people at Rhino were allowed to be creative and they strived for superior sound. The Chief Remastering Engineer in the early 90's was Bill Inglot. Rhino will only use the best possible source for reissues which includes the master tape or next best existing source if the master tape has been damaged. To really appreciate the sound, you have to hear the music through a high-end system.
To answer your question, I believe Rhino will remaster any label if they believe the demand is there for the product and the existing recording is inferior.

"Spot You in a Coalmine" is one of my favorites. I particuarly like the remix that was done in both a short and long version.
Something that bugs me is when EMI and other labels keep putting out greatest hits albums without anything new. That's one of the reasons I would like to see the reissued albums. Although the songs are old, and many of us know them, it would have some extras that the fans have been trying to find.
In case anyone is curious, here are the Corey Hart compilations:
The Singles (North America & Japan - 15 tracks)
Sunglasses At Night (Canada; mostly non-singles collection - 10 tracks)
The Best of Corey Hart (US - 10 Tracks)
Super Now (Japan Only - 17 tracks)
I Can't Help Falling In Love...The Corey Hart Collection (Japan - 12 tracks)
Classic Masters (US - 12 tracks)
Best Of Corey Hart (Canada - 12 tracks)
There could be more from other countries, but these are the ones I know. Instead of EMI doing this, they could be putting out "Remastered & Expanded" editions, similar to what was done with Tina Turner's Private Dancer album. It contains 17 tracks, which includes the b-sides and 12" mixes.
On a side note, I have noticed a small little flaw at the start of "Sunglasses At Night" on various CD compilations. I do not profess to be an audiophile, but I do like to listen and analyze things sometimes. Anyway, on Super Now, The Best of Corey Hart, and Sunglasses At Night, the kick drum on the down beat is chopped. Has anyone else noticed this? Perhaps it was only certain copies. Of course, I don't expect this is something that most people will notice, but I did.
Sorry for being so long-winded. That's all for now.

TheRain1981 7-21-05, 07:18 PM I have not noticed that little flaw in "Sunglasses At Night." It must be only on certain collections. I have the 2002 'Classic Masters' release and every track sounds wonderful.
