View Full Version : Fave 80's Adventure Game
How about it adventurers... What was your favorite adventure game of the 80's? I'll list two. One console and one computer.
First for console, it was undoubtedly "Zelda" for Nintendo with "Dungeons and Dragons" coming in a close second on the trusty Intellivision
For the computer, there is no doubt that it was "Tunnels of Doom" for the TI99/4A. It was the very first game I saw that implemented a 3D effect. Yup! Lost many hours of sleep to that one.
How about you?
------------------
If I'm here and your here doesn't that make it our time?
Roemello 3-28-01, 06:26 PM Well, since I never had anything closely resembling a computer until '97 when I got this thing, I can't name any computer games...never got into the current ones either...no time http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif
For console...it's no secret The Legend of Zelda is my all time favorite (hell, I have a huge ass section of my site dedicated to it http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif). I actually just got a kick ass Color Gameboy emulator and went through DX so I can make a section for that....fun, fun (not to mention a pain in the ass http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif )

Was that "Links Awakening"? If so, I have played that on my GB. That was a cool game. I thought at first, because it was a GB, that it might be lame. Totally not! A very great (and huge) game for being on a GB.
Yup! I give it a thumbs up!
------------------
If I'm here and your here doesn't that make it our time?
Roemello 3-29-01, 04:45 PM Yup, it's Link's Awakening. It's a hell of a lot better in color too (and the fact that the emulator allows me to play with a much larger screen increased my enjoyment http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif). It is a biggin...but definitely a good one and quite difficult! I'd say it's a very close second to Majora's Mask as the most difficult Zelda game in the series http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif

Roemello 3-31-01, 04:29 AM You should get the updated 'DX' version for GB Color...it's got a few new secrets and a brand new color dungeon http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif

A new dungeon? Really? I figured they had just colorized it and changed the name. I'll have to go to Toys "R" Us and check that out this weekend.
Thanks, Roemello... http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif
------------------
If I'm here and your here doesn't that make it our time?
Roemello 3-31-01, 04:39 AM Yup...I won't reveal too many spoilers, but I will say it is a fun dungeon (it's a secret one though, so you'll have to sniff it out). All the puzzles in it are color related (go figure). There's also this mouse guy that takes pictures of you at various points in the game to fill up your scrapbook.
Snoopy little sh*t....he took a picture of me stealing the bow from the item shop in Mabe Village http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif Everyone on the island kept calling me a thief http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif

Man! I just visited your web site and sifted through your Zelda area. Very Nice! If I had an "In Awe" smilie, I would paste it here... Looks like you went to a lot of trouble and detail in setting that up. Really nice website, Roemello.

Might I also suggest 'Chrono Trigger' (One of, if not the, best RPG of it's time). The 'Lufia' series is another good one...especially part 2 (which actually precedes part 1 as far as storyline goes http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//icon36.gif )

I never beat Raiders, either! Not for lack of trying! I was only 8 or so when I got the cartridge, and I kept hammering away at it until I was 16, and my 2600 died http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//00buaaah.gif
I've tried emulators, but they're just not the same. For one thing, I don't have a joystick, and these games are Dang Hard with keyboard controls! Not to mention you have to figure them out for yourself! Heh. Besides, the games were made to run on an 8K machine, (is that right? or was it 8 bits?) and when you play them on, say, a PowerMac G3/300, they are Too Fast to keep up with.
Oh, for the reflexes of an eight-year-old! I had the high score on Asteroids at our local pizza parlor for a long time when I was seven. Or, it seemed like a long time back then, it was probably only a couple weeks. Hee.
Shakey, I loved Imagic's games. They were fun, complex, and above all, cheap. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif My favorites other than Riddle of the Sphinx were Cosmic Ark, Atlantis, and that one with Jason & the Golden Fleece crossed with Breakout.
I got my cousins the Activision classic game pak for Playstation for Christmas, and at Easter we all had a lovely family gaming session. I'm so glad I got my 17-year-old cousin into retro gaming. He has my old games-- maybe he'll find a working console somewhere, then I'll be Really happy. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif
