View Full Version : Sique Sique Sputnik? How the hell do you spell that? Raine 5-13-00, 09:11 PM Remember these guys? I don't remember how to spell it, but they were, well, odd to say the least! ------------------ AKA Rain Taylor Flix 5-14-00, 07:58 PM Hehehe. What was up with this band?? I remember Love Missile F1-11 and some of the other songs. The album "Flaunt it" was really really good (for about 2 days). They actually released their own set of "underground singles" where their hits were played backwards !?!?! They called themselves ehhh...something girls and were all dressed as transvestites. But it was all remixes played backwards. Hehehe. I didn't know they had ANY HITS in the US. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif -Flixfan ------------------ Raine 5-18-00, 05:06 AM I don't think they had any hits in the US. Usually when I mention them, I get weird looks from all. They were an odd bunch, yet some of their stuff was strangly catchy! LOL! Do you really live in Bowie? I wanna move there just for the name! ~Rain ------------------ AKA Rain Taylor Flix 5-18-00, 02:25 PM Yes, I do live in Bowie. I would have lived in "Iggy Pop" but it was hard to find a house there http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif I just received a promo-cd with brand new 2000 remixes of Sigue Sigue Sputnik's Love Missile F1-11. If you thought they sounded weird back then!!!! hehehe. -Flixfan ------------------ mrmiata 5-26-00, 02:01 PM Sigue Sigue Sputnik was an experiment by Malcolm McLaren. He took a bunch of folks that knew nothing about music, started selling shirts and other items at his shop Sex! and promoting the band. They were popular before they ever made a song. Love Missile F-111 has to be one of the most representative songs of '80s club music. Shoot it up! ------------------ Iluvthe80s 11-23-01, 07:30 PM I still have that cassette. It was a pretty cool album! Kayenne 11-25-01, 09:17 AM I actually met the guys in the summer of '87 while on holiday in Greece. Boy did they stand out in a crowd - the poor Greeks didn't know what to make of them!! :D Fun music and fun to watch...... djdaffy1227 11-25-01, 03:01 PM I love these guys. I had a poster of them with the huge orange mowhawk and fishnet masks. They WERE new wave!! I had to special order their CD because (as stated before) they weren't very popular here in the states. I played "Love Missile F1-11" on my new wave special last year! GREAT STUFF! wavemaster 11-26-01, 01:18 AM Well, Iīve never considered SSS being Punk, despite of their rather outrageous look - I always thought a real Punk would rather vomit when hearing keyboards used that massively. :D But, 'Love Missile F1-11' was really a cool track, I still like to listen to this track from time to time. A little trivia...the space between the tracks on their debut album 'Flaunt It' was sold to advertisers, and at least the UK and Germany editions featured different ads. The band name was said to be taken from a Moscow youth criminal gang...but since 90% of this band was based on a massive hype, itīs doubtable that this information is really true. SSS were actually 'invented' by Tony James, a former member of Generation X, who took Malcolm McLaren as a role model. McLaren has also 'invented' another famous band in the 70s...the Sex Pistols. Both bands featured one similarity - the members were not chosen for their musical talents... ;) In 2000, 'Love Missile F1-11' was remixed by German Techno DJ Westbam. SurlyOne 11-29-01, 12:01 PM If I remember correctly, their name is pronounced "zig zig sputnik," and the Russian translation is "burn, burn sputnik." They released a best-of in the UK earlier this year... |
