"..crying for the death of your heart..
screaming at the make believe,
screaming at the sky
and you finally found
all your courage
to let it all go..."
(aahh...
just had to get that out..)
:)
Ah, Pictures of You.
Very clever Vilji.
yeah, i planned it that way.
i usually hear 'naive'..now i'm clever.
i think i like naive better..lol
those lines and
"a thousand hours just thrown away
just to feel my heart for a second.."
always stayed with me for some reason.
What about:
"And it's such a sad old feeling,
All the fields are soft and green,
It's memories that I'm stealing
But you're innocent when you dream, when you dream,
You're innocent when you dream"
Bogie likes Tom Waits. I think at the moment (this changes regularly) my fave is "Jersey Girl".
Sorry for dragging you down from "naïve" to "clever". I promise not to make that mistake again.
oh, no, you didn't drag me down..lol
i'm cool.
you're cool..
this place is a great place to hang out in on the web.
but....one complaint..
it would be nice to have some more pics of the guys around here. I've only seen a couple of the guys pics, but lots of the girls..c'mon guys..
you do show up on film...
don't you..?
wouldn't that be cool talent to have...
not show up in photos every so often to freak people out..

Are you suggesting we might be vampires?
Oooh, scarrrrry!
"too much pressure!
this pressure's got to stop!
oh lord oh lord..
this woman make me look bad.
got to stop
it's got to stop!"
this is my section to
'get it out!' sometimes typing just gets it out, quick!!
cool song. it sounds like Ska and reggae, but new wave..

"Out on the roads that lie before me now,
There are some turns where I will spin.
I only hope that you can hold me now,
Until I gain control again."
I like that..
who sings it?
I'll give you one guess!
That's right - well done Vilji. It's This Mortal Coil from the third album Blood.
I'm tellin' ya. You're gonna love this stuff.
"All this frustration, all this frustration,
Who put down our eyes,
On the butterflies wings?
All this frustration, all this frustration,
Who gave the leopard spots,
And taught the birds to sing?
Born of frustration, born of frustration."
"needles and scissors
and needles
she's gasping
for air
in the wishing well.
Dust to rust,
ashes on gashes.
hand around the killing jar.
hand around
the killing jar"..

Oooh, good one.
I always liked:
"Kinder with poison than pushed down a well
Or a face burned to hell,
Feel the cruel stones,
Breaking her bones."
Siouxsie really knows how to make a point.
"how in the world can I wish
for this
never to be torn apart.
close to you
till the last beat of my heart"
she knows how to write a love song.
nothing,,or no one,,,
kiss them for me
i might be delayed..
kiss them for me,
i might
find myself delayed
"Oh, you've got green eyes, Oh, you've gotblue eyes,Oh, you've got grey eyes.
Oh, you've got green eyes, Oh, you've got blue eyes,Oh, you've got grey eyes.
And I've never met anyone
quite like you before.
No I've never met anyone
quite like you before."
the rise and fall of shame
"the search that shall remain.
we asked you what you've seen.
you said you didn't care."
(and to most of the world from me:
"the sign that leads the way
the path we cannot take.
you've caught me at a bad time.
so why don't you piss off."

You rock. Give 'em hell.
Nothing like a little Christie Moore on a rainy day.
"True you ride the finest horse
I've ever seen.
Standing sixteen-one or two
With eyes wild and green.
You ride the horse so well
Hands light to the touch.
I could never go with you
No matter how I wanted to.
Ride on, see you
I could never go with you
No matter how I wanted to.
When you ride into the night
Without a trace behind
Run your claw along my gut
One last time.
I turn to face an empty space
Where you used to lie
And look for the spark that lights the night
Through a tear-drop in my eye.
Ride on, see you
I could never go with you
No matter how I wanted to."
wow...
that's beautiful.
I don't think I'm familiar with the artist.
that kind of poetry always makes one feel better

I'm a big Siouxsie fan from way back... I wore out two tape copies of Peepshow.
This is a great topic, Vilji. Some of my favorite healing songs:
"Brave Companion of the Road" - Nanci Griffith
"Picture in a Frame" - Tom Waits
"Do what you have to do" - Sarah MacLachlan (the only song I really like from that album, go figure!)
Normally I'm able to quote lyrics like crazy, but the old brain does not have a very good data transfer rate today...
I hear ya,,

I feel bad for this generation of teens who don't have Sisters, Bauhaus and Siouxsie to help them through the day. They have Manson.. He would have been laughed off the stage in the 80's.
"lover come back to me.
you don't have to knock on my door,
no.
lover come back to me.
kick it right down
kick it right down
right down.."
Oooohhhh. The theme of loss/pining is one of the best.
"And I miss you since our place got wrecked
By the winds of change and the weight of sex.
It looks like freedom but it feels like death
It's something inbetween I guess;
It's closing time."
pining...that sounds so horrible for someone to have to deal with. time is cruel and life goes on,,though love can linger..
'do you have to let it linger..?'
me thinks of bogie every time that song comes on,,'da da da...'
i didn't know the rest of the lyrics until you mentioned your signature. that could be depressing. but the music is upbeat. i hope it's healing for bogie..
"You know she thrills me with all her charms
When I'm wrapped up in my baby's arms.
My little angel gives me everything
I know someday that she'll wear my ring.
So don't bother me 'cause I got no time,
On my way to see that girl of mine.
Nothing else matters in the whole wide world
When you're in love, with a Jersey Girl
Sing sha-la, la la la la......I'm in love with a Jersey girl."
you so crazy!
"..and I laughed
like I always do.
And I cried
like I cried for you.
And balloon man
blew up, in my hand.
..and it rained
like a slow divorce.
And I wished
I could ride a horse..
and balloon man blew up
in my hand."

"I heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music do you?
It goes like this; the fourth the fifth
A minor fall and a major lift.
The baffled king composing hallelujah."
Written by Cohen,
Sung best by Cale.
"Your faith was strong but you needed proof.
You saw her bathing on the roof;
Her beauty & the moonlight overthrew you.
She tied you to a kitchen chair
she broke your thorns, she cut your hair,
and from your lips she drew the Hallelujah"
that reminds me of that new wave song,
"I'm still in love
with you Delila.
De-li-la
De-li-la
Like Romeo and Juliet
Samson and Delila
on fire.."
I have to get this cd:
"I was only dreaming
I was only trying to catch
your eye.
I was only wishing you would
notice me.
Instead you said
goodbye.."
"Baby I've been here before.
I know this room, I've walked this floor.
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
but love is not a victory march,
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
There was a time you let me know
What's really going on below.
But now you never show it to me, do you?
I remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah.
Maybe there's a God above
But all I ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you.
And it's not a complaint that you hear tonight
It's not somebody who's seen the light.
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah."
Thought I'd better finish that off before it drags out too long.

"Hallelujah" could never drag out too long. Leonard Cohen is another of my songwriter crushes. I'm pleased that Shrek is bringing "Hallelujah" back into the public eye.
Does Shrek have Leonard Cohen on the soundtrack?
Missed the 80s by a year, but still. Now that I'm a convicted stalker I can no longer resist the temptation of Nick Cave lyrics. I held out as long as I could.
"We talk about it all night long
We define our moral ground
But when I crawl into your arms
Everything comes tumbling down
Come sail your ships around me
And burn your bridges down
We make a little history, baby
Every time you come around
Come loose your dogs upon me
And let your hair hang down.
You are a little mystery to me
Every time you come around"
(*...still enjoying that one...*)
oh, sorry..was i drifting?
with N. Cave's voice and the mellow tone..
and the message from who it is..
perfection..?
was that a question or a statement..?
you decide. i'm through with decision making

Yes! "Hallelujah" is in the movie... in the movie, they use a heartrending cover by John Cale, (available on the early 90s Cohen tribute album "I'm Your Fan") but the soundtrack CD has a different version. Quite a disappointment to many would-be soundtrack buyers.
I've loved Leonard Cohen's songs since I was a kid... my mom was always playing Judy Collins albums. I didn't realize until much later that the only songs of hers I truly fell in love with were all written by L.C. *g*
I agree, the Cale version is staggering! It's also on the soundtrack to Basquiat along with some other marvellous things (Tom Waits, PIL, David Bowie, Pogues, etc.).
I loved James' version of So Long, Marianne on I'm Your Fan. They threw in such excellent lyrical additions.
"...All those fights, with that big kitchen knife,
All the lies, and the hate that you spout.
All those long, long furious nights
All those long, long furious nights
...And the crimes we committed at night
All the crimes we committed at night..."
Ah, Bogie must stop. I'm working myself into a sweat here at the office (doesn't look too good).
working up a sweat remembering a song about fighting all night?
(don't know that one..
ah,
there's more fun ways to work up a sweat..
(that was then, this is Tao)
I think "the crimes we committed at night" were before the fights started. That's the way it sounds to me anyway
I think they were adjusting the song a little to show a more intense relationship than the one L.C. was writing about. But man does it sound good (the song, not the fights)
wavemaster 7-10-01, 04:11 PM I hope that my contribution fits right in here...
When it comes to music which is sad, driving and somehow uplifting at once, I highly recommend DEINE LAKAIEN.
Those Germans are put in the "Gothic" drawer, but they manage to steer clear of all the clichés and routines which are generally linked to it.
Get an album of them - you won´t regret it!
Some recommendations: 1st Album (1986), Dark Star (1991), Kasmodiah (1999)
Here´s one of my favourite songs...
Lonely
Lonely, where should I be if this is not my land
slowly, life is running through my fingers like sand
call me, and I'll be wherever you are
lonely, and the day hides a falling star
And I tried so hard, yes I tried to get out
but the fear kept on strangling my will
And I tried so hard, yes I tried to get out
but the chains they were harder than steel
Lonely, when the bird calls the break of dawn
Lonely, when nightfall takes lovers in it's arms
Lonely, when meadows outside grow green
falling, and the waters take what has been
flowing, show me a place where I can fall asleep
lonely, and the oceans are vast and deep
And I tried so hard...
...so true..!
we're all lonely in our own little worlds. finding bits and pieces to connect with.
sounds like a great song (and band

Agreed, that sounds good Wavemaster. I don't think I've ever heard their stuff before. Will have to check it out for sure.
wavemaster 7-10-01, 05:09 PM I can only encourage you to look for Deine Lakaien-outputs! Or search for the respective .mp3-files, as I don´t know if they ever were released outside Germany.
A good source might be A DIFFERENT DRUM (http://www.adifferentdrum.com/), they feature lots of synth and indie stuff from Europe.
If you want, I might post another lyric of them here...they´re all just great!
I know it's not from the 80s but:
"The darkness must flow
Down the river of night's dreaming.
Flow Morpheus, flow, let the sun
And light come streaming, into my life.
Into my life.
There's a light - over at the Frankenstein Place.
There's a light - burning in the fireplace.
There's a light, a light
In the darkness, of everybody's life."
wavemaster 7-11-01, 03:40 AM Found another lyric from Deine Lakaien (will feed my CD changer with that stuff again...)
Away
Silent groaning on the floor
Slight clicking out the light
Gentle squeaking of the door
I am off in the night
Away away
Nothing's left to say
I am far away
Kicking empty cans
Just around the corner
Maybe you look on me
As a lonesome mourner
While I'm drifting off
Along distant shores
Think I'm nothing but this tin
Because I don't feel anymore
Was it meant for me
When you soared from that pole
Can you see what I can't see
A resting place for my soul
Away away
Nothing's left to say
I am far away
Kicking empty cans
Just around the corner
Maybe you look on me
As a lonesome mourner
While I'm drifting off
Along distant shores
Think I'm nothing but this tin
Because I don't feel anymore
Green feather on the ground
He's been watching you
Proclamation all around:
"Only passing through!"
Away away
Nothing's left to say
I am far away
Far away from now
Sorrows and grief
Way up in the sky
You give me relief
Like the way you are floating
Conquers gravitation
Makes me overcome
This leaden stagnation
Kicking empty cans
Just around the corner
Maybe you look on me
As a lonesome mourner
While I'm drifting off
Along distant shores
Think I'm nothing but this tin
because I don't feel anymore
And if you could only listen to the accompanying tune...this is what I call really deep and meaningful music...
"...away in dreams..."
"Now your eyes are like torches,
Your presence is bliss.
I never knew time
Could speed and zip like this.
The touch of your flesh
Is tough to resist.
Planets collide, collide, collide
At the smack of your kiss."
"the devils bite's dirty,
we wax and wane.
the devils bite's dirty
we wax and wane.."
(cocteau twins)
" Take on me
Take me on
I'll be gone
in a day or two"
Banna-da-da-da... air-keyboards, huge smile, skipping up and down, giggling, remembering every girlfriend I've ever had!!!
(aah)
that's sweet
"I've had my ear to ground, to the ground.
I've been wonderin', what it is your hidin'
-what is the mystery, yeah-
What you get is what you see.
Desire.
What you get is what you see.
Desire."
oh yea! i like
'here we go..over the rooftops..'
g luv's j
'i think i wanna know ya.
jungle love.
i'd love to show you.
hey jessie. now jerome.
yes.
oh wee ah wee ah!'
This is so fitting. Are Spirit of the West popular outside Canada?
"The gas heater's empty, it's damp as a tomb
And the spirits we drank like a ghost in the room
I'm knackered again, come on please take me soon
And don't lift up my head 'till the twelve bells at noon
You'll have to excuse me
I'm not at my best.
I've been gone for a month
I've been drunk since I left
And these so-called vacations
Will soon be my death.
I'm so sick from the drink
I need home for a rest."
Methinks I'll be singing that quite a bit come September also.
"I'm leaving Las Vegas...
and the lights so bright.
palm sweat and a blackjack
on a Saturday night.
leaving Las Vegas..
And I won't be back
no,no. I won't be back.."
(S. Crow)
that's one of the
most ultimate road trip songs while
driving westward..
"I can feel the distance
as you breathe.
Sometimes I think
you want me to touch you.
How can I when you build
that great Wall around you?
In your eyes, I see
a future together.
You just look away
into the distance."
(song 2)
"All the world just stopped now.
So you say you don't want
to stay together anymore.
Let me take a deep breath, babe.
If you need me, me and Neil will be
hanging out with the dream king.
I don't believe you're leaving because
me and Charles Manson like
the same icecream.
I think it's that girl.
And I think they're pieces of me
you've never seen.
maybe she's just pieces of me
you've never seen.
that tear in your hand.
you don't know the
power that you have.
with that
tear in your hand.
tear in your hand.
maybe,
I ain't used to maybe's
smashing in a cold room.
maybe it's time
to say goodbye now."
(song 3)
"He says,
'When you gonna make up your mind?
When you gonna love you as much as
I do?
When you gonna make up your mind?
Cause things are going
to change so fast.
All the white horses are
still in bed.
I tell you that I'll always
want you near.
You say that things change
my dear.'"

What sad songs. I don't think I'm familiar with them.
wavemaster 7-15-01, 03:49 AM Since you both seemed to be inclined to songs which doesn´t feature the most happiest content, you might search for these two also:
THE CAIN PRINCIPLE Prayer In The Silence
MESH You Didn´t Want Me
It´s not only the lyrics...the music´s also perfectly right for a blue day...or a dark night.
"Despair and deception, love's ugly little twins
Came a knockin' on my door, I let 'em in.
Darling your the punishment for all my former sins.
I let love in. I let love in."
"i'm having so much fun.
my lucky's number one.
uh oh uh oh
there's something in the attic besides the atomosphere..
the evidence is strong.
my lucky number's rung.
uh oh uh oh.
something tells me my lucky number's
going to be changing soon.
something tells me
my lucky number's
going to be
two-ooooo-ooooo".
(Lene Lovich)
"Come here my love
This feeling has me spellbound
Yet the storyline, in paragraphs, laid down the same
In fathoms of my inner mind
I'm mystified, oh, by this mood
This melancholy feeling that just don't do no good
Come here my love
And I will lift my spirits high for you
I'd like to fly away and spend a day or two
Just contemplating the fields and leaves and talking about nothing
Just layin' down in shades of effervescent, effervescent odors
And shades of time and tide
And flowing through
Become enraptured by the sights and sounds in intrigue of nature's beauty
Come along with me
And take it all in
Come here my love"
I'm not clever enough to figure out exactly what Mr. Morrison was talking about, but man it sounds good.
i can handle that,

All directions were in vain, I can't find the way back to your heart

Haunted by my memories, lost in so much pain inside
Running round in endless circles, I can't run away from myself
Time is passing by so slowly, I still can't believe my destiny
You won't catch me if I fall, you won't hear me when I call

That's kinda what I was thinkin' but I can't for the life of me place the lyrics. It's not on any of the albums I've ever owned. I haven't heard him sing that live either.

your synthpop knowledge is pretty impressive, i don't know too many people who've even heard of distain.

Every line.
And I kiss the name
That you sign.
And darling then,
I read again
Right from the start.
Love letter straight
From your heart."

Did you like the cover that Annie Lennox did?
Here's a potential case of mistaken lyrics.
"I need you close" or "I need new clothes"?
xistenza 7-25-01, 02:30 PM yeah, i like the clash. haven't listened to them in forever!
i've been listening to this song today:
"we've been so long together
forgotten hopes and pleasures
but when the time is right
we'll open our hearts
and disclose the treasure
so there are you
and here am i
let's realize our dreams
the time is right

xistenza 7-26-01, 04:32 AM "My eager eyes came stumbling down
Over this pristine view
My second-rate poetry
Just is not enough to describe you
I'm scrambling 'round the floor
Looking for some fresh metaphor
All the words to describe this just do not exist
I feel better than ever before
I'm breathless and speechless
But still, there is so much to say
..."
"Now no-one's knocked upon my door
For a thousand years, or more
All made up and nowhere to go
Welcome to this one man show
Just take a seat, they're always free
No surprise, no mystery
In this theatre that I call my soul
I always play the starring role, so lonely
So lonely, so lonely, so lonely
So lonely, so lonely, so lonely
So lonely, so lonely, so lonely
So lonely, so lonely"
"So if you want it, come and get it,
for crying out loud.
The love that I was feeling
for you was
never in doubt.
Let go your heart.
let go your head,
and feel it now.
let go your heart,
let go your head,
and feel it now.
Babylon"
"Sail away with me honey,
I put my heart in your hands.
Sail away with me honey,
now. now
now.
Sail away with me,
what will be will be.
I want to hold you now.."
That's a good one Vilji. I don't think I know it.
Last weekend I heard Johnny Cash (yes, THE Johnny Cash) doing a cover of Nick Cave's Mercy Seat. Anyone else heard it? It was very good.
"I hear stories from the chamber
How Christ was born into a manger
And like some ragged stranger
He died upon the cross
and might I say
It seems so fitting in it's way
He was a carpenter by trade
Or at least that's what I'm told"
the lyrics I posted are from David Gray.
i love mellow, romantic words like that from a guy..
"The way that you hold me
Whenever you hold me
There's some kind of magic inside you
That keeps me from running
But just keep it coming
How'd you learn to do the things you do?
And nobody does it better
Makes me feel sad for the rest
Nobody does it half as good as you
Baby, baby, darlin', you're the best"
that's sweet..

I've heard this. My friend played it for me about a year ago. It was good to hear the infamous Cash crooning Cave's lyrics, but it did sound a bit strange (i think because i'm so used to how Nick sings it).

This song always kills me...
tell me and take your time
set free this soul of mine
freeze frame this sedate moment
lie me in your quiet ground
i understand your
tired eyes for these
tired homes and tired trees
i see the pain in those
brown eyes
fires burn in autumn skies
"Brown Eyes" - Red House Painters
That's very nice Mary. Kinda like Gerald Manley Hopkins with the religious references taken out of it.
I've never heard that.
I don't want to go off topic but I couldn't resist going to see Shrek after you told us what was on the soundtrack. I was impressed. I've never seen and Elf 'Oi' band before.

Thanks! It's on the Red House Painters self-titled album (volume I) .... it's a truly gorgeous song. There's a Windows Media clip at cdnow (http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=965475215/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/ArtistID=RED+HOUSE+PAINTERS/ITEMID=807342) if you'd like to hear it.
My ex put it on a mix for me, once when we were "in between" spells of seeing each other. Nothing to get a couple back together like the Red House Painters.
Glad you liked Shrek!

It is extremely different from Nick's studio version, isn't it. But I've been thinking it's not actually that far removed from the version on Live Seeds.
Here's an oldie that just came floating back. Always thought it was beautiful. I think it's content runs deeper than the obvious.
"The sky was Bible black in Lyon
When I met the Magdalene.
She was paralysed in a streetlight
She refused to give her name,
And a ring of violet bruises
They were pinned upon her arm.
Two hundred francs for sanctuary
And she led me by the hand
To a room of dancing shadows
Where all the heartache disappears
And from glowing tongues of candles
I heard her whisper in my ear
'J'entend ton coeur'
'J'entend ton coeur'
I can hear your heart
I can hear your heart
I can hear your heart
Hear your heart."
Okay, I'm being really selfish here hogging this topic. I promise I'll leave it alone for a couple of days. I was surfing the net here at the office (slow day) downloading all the versions I could find of this song. It was making my eyes mist. One of the few times I was actually in the U.S. was with 70,000 other Paddy's in 1994. We were in Giants Stadium in Jersey watching Ireland play Norway. It was incredible to hear 70,000 mostly drunk Paddy's singing this in unison:
"When you walk through a storm,
Hold your head up high,
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of a storm,
There's a golden sky,
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Though your dreams be tossed and blown...
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart,
And you'll never walk alone...
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart,
And you'll never walk alone...
You'll never walk alone."
that's really cool.

Got another one for my fellow saps This is a beautiful Indigo Girls song, "Fare thee well," from Swamp Ophelia. Frankly, I don't like the album version as much as the one I heard first, on PBS' Austin City Limits. I only have that version on cassette... it's spare and acoustic, and they dressed the album version up too much for my liking.
On with the song!
fare thee well my bright star
i watched your taillights blaze into nothingness
but you were long gone before i ever got to you
before you blazed past this address
and now i think of having loved and having lost
but never know what it feels like to never love
who can say what's better when my heart's become the cost
a mere token of a brighter jewel sent from above
fare thee well my bright star
the vanity of youth the color of your eyes
and maybe if i'd fanned the blazing fire of your day-to-day
or if i'd been older i'd been wise
too thick the heat of those long summer evenings
for a cool evening i began to yearn
but you could only feed upon the things which feed a fire
waiting to see if i would burn
fare thee well my bright star
it was a brief brilliant miracle dive
that which i looked up to and i clung to for dear life
had to burn itself up just to make itself alive
and i caught you then in your moment of glory
your last dramatic scene against a night sky stage
with a moment so clear that it's as if you're still before me
my once in a lifetime star of an age
so fare thee well my bright star
last night the tongues of fire circled me around
and this strange season of pain will come to pass
when the healing hands of autumn cool me down
...I first heard this song 8 years ago, the summer one of my dearest friends died in a car accident, and it remains the only song that fairly represents my grief. It's still a great song, even if it does make me cry.
"Saps". I think I kinda like that. Thank you Mary.
"Every night I tell myself, 'I am the cosmos. I am the wind.'
But that don't get you back again.
Just when I was starting to feel okay,
You're on the phone.
Never want to be alone.
Never want to be alone.
I hate to have to take you home.
Want it too much to say no, no.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.
Never want to be alone.
I hate to have to take you home.
Want you too bad to say no, no.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.
My feelings always have been something I couldn't hide.
I can't confide.
Don't know what's going on inside.
So every night I tell myself 'I am the cosmos. I am the wind'.
But that don't get you back again.
I'd really like to see you again.
I really want to see you again.
I'd really like to see you again.
I really want to see you again..."
"I hear him
before i go to sleep
and focus on the day that's been.
I realise he's there
when i turn the light off,
and turn over.
Nobody knows about my man.
they think he's lost on some horizon.
And suddenly I find myself
listening to the man i've
never known before....
ooohh, he's here again.
the man with the child in his eyes."
mmmmm. I'm surprised we haven't seen more Kate Bush in here before. Nice one Vilji.
Now see what you've done.lol
I've been singing Kate Bush songs to myself all morning.
"I found a fox
Caught by dogs.
He let me take him in my hands.
His little heart,
It beats so fast,
And I'm ashamed of running away
From nothing real--
I just can't deal with this,
But I'm still afraid to be there,
Among your hounds of love,
And feel your arms surround me.
I've always been a coward,
And never know what's good for me."
xistenza 8-03-01, 02:30 PM whoo-hoo Kate Bush Day!
"You,
It's you and me,
It's you and me won't be unhappy.
"C'mon, baby, c'mon darling,
Let me steal this moment from you now.
C'mon, angel, c'mon, c'mon, darling,
Let's exchange the experience, oh..."
And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems. "
there's a great dance remix of this song by Elastic Band. It's amazing.

Must check that one Xis. I've never heard anyone cover Runnin' Up That Hill. Great song.
"There's a storm outside
And the gap between the cracklin' thunder,
Cracklin' thunder
Is closing in
Is closing in.
The rain floods gutters
And makes a great sound on the concrete.
On a flat roof
There's a boy leaning against a wall of rain
Aerial held high
Calling 'come on thunder, come on thunder'
Sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes
I swear I can see your soul.
Sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes
I swear I can see your soul."
ahh...
how romantic

"Put your face to my window
Breathe a night full of treasure.
The wind is delicious, sweet and wild
With the promise of pleasure.
The stars are alive and nights like these
Were born to be sanctified by you and me.
Lovers, thieves, fools and pretenders.
And all we gotta do
All we gotta do
Is surrender."
Captain and Tenille
"Do that to me one more time.
once is never enough.
from a man like you.."
Speaking of Elvis Costello (in another topic) this one always pierced right through the heart:
"I want you
Did you mean to tell me but seem to forget
I want you
Since when were you so generous and inarticulate
I want you
It's the stupid details that my heart is breaking for
It's the way your shoulders shake and what they're shaking for
It's knowing that he knows you now after only guessing
I want you
It's the thought of him undressing you or you undressing
I want you
He tossed some tattered compliment your way
I want you
And you were fool enough to love it when he said
'I want you'"
in the words of Mike Myers..:
"Helloo!!!"
Sorry. Songs about being dumped are a little depressing. It's still my fave Elvis song though.lol
Let's cheer it up a bit shall we?
"Sometimes a wind blows
And you and I
Float
In love
And kiss forever
In a darkness
And the mysteries of love
Come clear
And dance in light
In you, in me
And show
That we
Are love."
that wasn't depressing. i was teasing you because it was just so direct.."i want you."
i could see myers replying that way...
lol
(i didn't even realise it was about being dumped..) sorry.
sad or happy, it's all good...

your sexual politics have left me all of a muddle
Shirley,
we are joined in the ideological cuddle
I'm celebrating my love for you
With a pint of beer and a new tattoo
And if you haven't noticed yet
I'm more impressionable when my cement is wet
...Here we are in our summer years
Living on icecream and chocolate kisses
Would the leaves fall from the trees
If I was your old man and you were my missus
Shirley,
give my greetings to the new brunette"
Here I go hogging the topic again.lol
Somebody stop me, pleeeeaaase. Jane, get me off this crazy thing.
"Can't let go and it doesn't matter how I try
I gave it all so easily to you my love
To dreams that never will come true
Am I strong enough to see it through?
Go crazy is what I will do
If I can't have you
I don't want nobody, baby
If I can't have you...uh-huh, oh
If I can't have you
I don't want nobody, baby
If I can't have you...uh-hoh"
Whenever I face challenges, barriers or even crisis, I try and remember the words that Sinead O'Connor borrowed from W.B. Yeats. They often work for me.
"But I will rise,
And I will return.
The Phoenix from the flame.
I have learned.
I will rise.
And you'll see me return.
Being what I am,
There is no other Troy
For me to burn."
i love that song.
this line helps me through tough times:
"I will walk through the garden.
feel religion within me.
I will learn how to run
with the big boys.
I will learn how to sink,
or to swim...
...just like you said it would be"
"When I've walked in the garden
When I'm walking off stage
When everything's quiet
Will you... Stay?
Will you be my lover?
Will you be my mama?
I said will you be my lover?
I said will you be my babe?
When I lay down my head
At the end of my day
Nothing would
Nothing would please me better
Than I find that you're there"
'hopelessly drift in the
eyes of the ghost again.
down on my knees and
my hands in the air again.
pushing my face
in the memory of you again.
and i never know if it's real.
never know how i wanted to feel.
never quite said what i wanted
to say to you.
never quite knew the words to
explain to you.
never quite knew how to make them
believable.
i'll never lose this pain.
never dream of you again.'
"When the past makes you laugh
And you can savor the magic
That let you survive your own war
You find that the fire is passion
And there's a door up ahead, not a wall"
~ Lou Reed, "Magic and Loss"
'here she comes again..
(can't believe i can't remember the rest!)
'she's a femme fatale...'
i knew Mo Tucker's daughter in college. (kerri tucker). she said Lou and others would hang out at her house while she was growing up. she didn't sound too thrilled by it all, though.

Bogie's starting to get really excited about going home in a couple of weeks. Time to dig out all the old Irish songs.
On Raglan Road of an autumn day
I saw her first and knew
That her dark hair would weave a snare
That I might one day rue.
I saw the danger, yet I walked
Along the enchanted way
And I said let grief be a falling leaf
At the dawning of the day.
...
I gave her the gifts of the mind
I gave her the secret sign
That's known to all the artists
Who have known true gods of sound and time.
With word and tint, I ne'er did stint
I gave her reams of poems to say
With her own name there, and her shiny black hair
Like clouds over fields of May.
On a quiet street, where old ghosts meet
I see her walking now
Away from me, so hurriedly
And my reason must allow
That I have wooed, not as I should
A creature made of clay.
When the angel woos, that of clay he'll lose
His wings, at the dawn of day.
"why
does it have to be such a blue kiss
when i kiss you?
Now
I color my world with a blue kiss.
yeah, these kisses are blue.."
xistenza 8-20-01, 12:34 AM so good to have this back again. i must have missed the last 2 weeks....these are all great. nice cure one Vilji! :)
"Everything, everything
Will appear to gang up on you
It's hard to keep your balance when the past is on parole.
Anything, anything
Can take your mind of those useless troubles
So organise a bunch mindless tonics for your soul.
When all that lies ahead is another dismal day
Speak out, speak out loud
Until your lungs give way.
Show them all the way
To your wedding day
Run like Judy does
From a distant memory
Find out it's yourself
That's the perfect company
So do like Judy does
When sorrow's cutting deep
You either do these things
Or you cry yourself to sleep"

Speaking of Jennifer Warnes in another topic reminded me of this one.
"Now the flames they followed Joan of Arc
As she came riding through the dark.
No moon to keep her armour bright
No man to get her through this dark and smoky night.
She said 'I'm tired of the war.
I want the kind of work I had before.
A wedding dress, or something white
To wear upon my swollen appetite.'
Well I'm glad to hear you talk this way.
I've watched you riding everyday
And there's something in me that yearns to win
Such a cold, such a lonesome heroine.
'And who are you' she sternly spoke
To the one beneath the smoke.
'Why, I'm fire' he replied
'And I love your solitude, and I love your pride.'
'Well then fire, make your body cold,
I'm gonna give you mine to hold'
And saying this she climbed inside
To be his one, to be his only bride.
And deep into his fiery heart
He took the dust of Joan of Arc
And high above all these wedding guests
He hung the ashes of her lovely wedding dress.
It was deep into his fiery heart
He took the dust of Joan of Arc
And then she clearly understood
If he was fire, oh, she must be wood.
'I saw her wince, I saw her cry
I saw the glory in her eye.
Myself, I long for love and light
But must it come so cruel, must it be so bright?'
"The elms and the poplars were turning their backs
Past the rumbling station we followed the tracks
We found an untrodden path and followed it down
The moon in the sky like a dislodged crown
My hands they burned in the folds of her coat
Breathing milky white air from deep in her throat
O baby please don't cry
And try to keep
Your little head upon my shoulder
Now try to sleep
I told Sally in whispers I'll never bring you harm
Her breast it was small and warm in my palm
I told her the moon was a magical thing
That it shone gold in winter and silver in spring
And we walked and walked across the endless sands
Just me and my Sally along the loom of the land
O baby please don't cry
And try to keep
Your little head upon my shoulder
Now go to sleep"
Where have all my sappy friends gone?
Bogie's getting very lonely in this forum. http://www.goldenplasma.f2s.com/forum/smilies/sad22.gif
"I took shelter from a shower
And I stepped into your arms
On a rainy night in Soho
The wind was whistling all its charms
I sang you all my sorrows
You told me all your joys
Whatever happened to that old song
To all those little girls and boys
Now the song is nearly over
We may never find out what it means
But there's a lot I hold before me
And you're the measure of my dreams
The measure of my dreams
Sometimes I wake up in the morning
The gingerlady by my bed
Covered in a cloak of silence
I hear you talking in my head
I'm not singing for the future
I'm not dreaming of the past
I'm not talking of the fist time
I never think about the last
Now the song is nearly over
We may never find out what it means
Still there's a lot I hold before me
You're the measure of my dreams
The measure of my dreams"

Translation:
A KISS ONE SPRING EVENING
The six o’clock world
The days work over
Family, taking of the fruits
Of plenty, good health, and love
Russia is falling down around my ears
The middle east in a broth of darkness
And you, evil, murder, and fighting
In my life every night
Oh Love
What power there was in that embrace
That has left me in union with you today
Who could ever have foreseen all that has grown
From a kiss, one spring evening
The grasp that was so firm and special
Like a hammer in my fist
The moon that was so bright
And promised so much
We were like sailing ships
On the young, yellow ocean of the heart
Confronted by children, and the world family
without voice, laughter, a God, or food
Oh Love
What power there was in that embrace
That has left me in union with you today
Who could ever have foreseen all that has grown
From a kiss, one spring evening
So where do the stars come from, I said
From where did the sun appear
We are so wounded below this moon
Souls tortured beyond hell itself
Still you keep bringing inspiration to my years
With blessings beyond my need
Whiter than the snows of each winter
The song of love, my confession of guilt
Oh Love
What power there was in that embrace
That has left me in union with you today
Who could ever have foreseen all that has grown
From a kiss, one spring evening
Oh Love
What power there was in that embrace
That has left me in union with you today
Who could ever have foreseen all that has grown
From a kiss, one spring evening

Thanks Wavey. :) That was a very pleasant surprise. Don't see gaelic everyday.
Seeing as your gaelic is so good, does that mean that you are one of the German cycling tourists we have to keep avoiding in the west of Ireland? :D (j/k)

I was listening to the Basquiat soundtrack over the weekend. Love this version by Them (featuring Van Morrison) :)
"The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense.
Take what you have gathered from coincidence.
The empty-handed painter from your street
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets.
The sky, too, is folding over you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you.
Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you.
Your lover who just walked out the door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore.
The carpet too, is moving under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
Strike another match girl, start anew
And it's all over now, Baby Blue."
"You snatch tune, you a match a cigarette,
She pulls the eyes out with a face like a magnet.
I don't know how much more of this I can take.
She's filing her nails while they're dragging the lake.
She is watching the detectives.
Ooh, it's so cute!
She is watching the detectives
Oh, and they shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot.
They beat him up until the teardrops start,
But he can't be wounded 'cause he's got no heart."
Grapefruit moon, one star shining, shining down on me.
Heard that tune, and now I'm pining, honey, can't you see?
'Cause every time I hear that melody, well, something breaks inside,
And the grapefruit moon, one star shining, can't turn back the tide.
Never had no destination, could not get across.
You became my inspiration, oh but what a cost.
'Cause every time I hear that melody, well, something breaks inside,
And the grapefruit moon, one star shining, is more than I can hide.
Now I'm smoking cigarettes and I strive for purity,
And I slip just like the stars into obscurity.
'Cause every time I hear that melody, well, puts me up a tree,
And the grapefruit moon, one star shining, is all that I can see.
"Grapefruit Moon" - Tom Waits (from Closing Time)
... stuck in my head for the last week, along with its CD-mate "I hope that I don't fall in love with you"... not such a bad affliction.

'Nothing much.'

Ted Nugent 9-09-01, 05:15 PM Ah, broken is the golden bowl! - the spirit flown forever! Let the bell toll! - a saintly soul floats on the stygian river; And Guy De Vere, hast thou no tear? - weep now or never more! See! on yon drear and rigid bier low lies thy love, Lenore! Come, let the burial rite be read - the funeral song be sung! - An anthem for the queenliest dead that ever died so young. A dirge for her the doubly dead in that she died so young. "Wretches! ye loved her for her wealth and ye hated her for her pride, And, when she fell in feeble health, ye blessed her that she died. How shall the ritual, then, be read? The requiem how be sung by you, by yours, the evil eye, by yours the slanderous tongue. That did to death the innocence that died, and died so young?" Peccavimus;yet rave not thus! But let a Sabbath song go up to God so solemny the dead may feel no wrong! The sweet Lenore "Hath gone before," with hope that flew beside, Leaving thee wild for the dear child that should have been thy bride, For her, the fair and debonair, that now so lowly lies, The life upon her yellow hair, but not within her eyes. The life still there upon her hair, the death upon her eyes. "Avaunt! - avaunt! from fiends below the indignant ghost is riven. From Hell unto a high estate within the Heaven, from grief and groan to a golden throne beside the King of Heaven! Let no bell toll, then! lest her soul, amid its hallowed mirth, Should catch the note as it doth float up from the damned Earth! And I! tonight my heart is light! no dirge will I upraise, But waft the angel on her flight with a paean of old days!"
Can you figure out what poem this is? :)
is that the opium guy? (lol)
Poe,
maybe?
i dont know the poem. :)
Ted, that sounds like Shelley to me but I can't remember the name... or maybe Byron. Perhaps more Byron than Shelley.
I am not up on my 19th-c British poetry anymore, LOL!
Ted Nugent 9-10-01, 01:52 PM Yeah it is poe. mary its an insult to call someone british.....j/k :)
i was right..yay! :)

Poe's a bit more into his own world.

in times like today, i like songs like this:
'turn around

Dream a dream.

Rhymes that keep their secrets
will unfold behind the clouds.
and there upon the rainbow
is the answer to a
neverending story..'

"I was walking in the park
Dreaming of a spark
When I heard the sprinklers whisper
Shimmer in the haze of summer lawns.
Then I heard the children singing.
They were running through the rainbows.
They were singing a song for you
Well it seemed to be a song for you.
The one I wanted to write for you, for you.
Lavenders blue, dilly dilly, lavenders green.
When I am King, dilly dilly, you will be Queen.
A penny for your thoughts my dear,
A penny for your thoughts my dear,

Your eyes are like two jewels in the sky.
Your back is straight, your hair is smooth
On the pillow where you lie.
But I don't sense affection
No gratitude or love
Your loyalty is not to me
But to the stars above.
One more cup of coffee for the road,
One more cup of coffee 'fore I go
To the valley below.
...
Your sister sees the future
Like your mama and yourself.
You've never learned to read or write
There's no books upon your shelf.
And your pleasure knows no limits
Your voice is like a meadowlark
But your heart is like an ocean
Mysterious and dark.
One more cup of coffee for the road,
One more cup of coffee 'fore I go
To the valley below."

Combing colors in the air
Oh, everywhere

My parents were huge Stones fans and I spent most of my early childhood car journeys listening to the Stones - on 8 Tracks no less. I'll never be able to shake them out of my psyche.

Tacky and obvious I know (my mother would kill me for ever being obvious). But after last night's dream I just can't resist. ;)
The word that would best describe this feeling
Would be haunted
I touch the clothes you left behind
They still retain your shape and lines
Still haunted
I trace the outline of your eyes
They're in the mirror hypnotized
I'm haunted
I find a solitary hair
Golden still I remenisce
I'm haunted
Haunted by your soul
Haunted by your hair
Haunted by your clothes
Haunted by your eyes
By your soul, by your hair
By your clothes, by your eyes
By your voice, by your smile
By your mouth, by your soul
By your hair, by your clothes
By your eyes, by your voice

Damn. Have to edit this later to make the picture work.
This is what W.B. Yeats said about water in 1886 (as sung by the Waterboys).
Away with us she is going
The solemn-eyed.
She'll hear no more the lowing
Of the calves on the warm hill side,
Or the kettle on the hob
Sing peace into her breast,
Or see the brown mice bob
Around and around the oatmeal chest.
For she comes, the human child
To the water.
She comes, the human child
To the water, and the wild.
With a faery hand in hand.
From a world more full of weeping
Than she can understand.

"I came so far for beauty,
I left so much behind.
My patience and my family,
My masterpiece unsigned.
I thought I'd be rewarded
For such a lonely choice.
And maybe she would answer
To such a hopeless voice.
I practiced all my sainthood,
I gave to one and all
But the rumours of my virtue
They moved her not at all
...
But no, I could not touch her
With such a heavy hand
Her star beyond my order
Her nakedness unmanned"
ImSoooSure 10-18-01, 04:46 AM Vilji where are you? I miss reading these! Well, I'll post a song in Viljis honor. :) I heard it today for the first time in ages.
Even on the darkest night
when empty promise means empty hand
and soldiers coming home like shadows turning red
When the lights of hope are fadeing quickly then look to me
I'll be your homing Angel
I'll be in your head
Because you're lonely in your nightmare
let me in
and there's heat beneath your winter
let me in.

she began going out with Mr.Potatohead.
It was when I saw her in the car park,
with his coat around her shoulders that I realised
I went home and thought about the two of them together,
until the bath water went cold around me.
I thought about her eyes and the curve of her breasts,
and about the point where their bodies met.
I confronted her about it,
I said 'I'm the most illegible bachelor in town'
and she said 'yeah,
that's why I can never understand any of those silly letters you send me'
and then one day it happened,
she cut her hair and I stopped loving her."

Thank goodness somebody else came into the room before Halloween. I was starting to get scared all on my own. LOL.
That's cool Xis. Don't recognize it though. Brings to mind the James song:
"Why are you phoning?
What am I to do when you're miles away?
You're always calling,
From the darkest rooms, and we're both scared.
Now your grips too strong
Can't catch love with a net or a gun.
Gotta have faith that your love will change.
Gotta have faith that your path will change.
Tomorrow."
xistenza 10-30-01, 12:08 PM Bogie, that was Blur....definitely in the same vein as James.
While we're on the phone kick..
"I'm in the phone booth, it's the one across the hall
If you don't answer, I'll just ring it off the wall
I know he's there, but I just had to call
Don't leave me hanging on the telephone
...
I had to interrupt and stop this conversation
Your voice across the line gives me a strange sensation
I'd like to talk when I can show you my affection
Oh I can't control myself
Oh I can't control myself
Oh I can't control myself
Don't leave me hanging on the telephone"
A little Tuesday morning Blondie. ;)
"It wouldn't take me long
To tell you how to find it,
To tell you where we'll meet.
This little girl inside me
Is retreating to her favourite place.
Go into the garden.
Go under the ivy,
Under the leaves,
Away from the party.
Go right to the rose.
Go right to the white rose
I sit here in the thunder,
The green on the grey.
I feel it all around me.
And it's not easy for me
To give away a secret--
It's not safe,
But go into the garden.
Go under the ivy,
Under the leaves,
Away from the party.
Go right to the rose.
Go right to the white rose
It wouldn't take me long
To tell you how to find it."
Isn't she just the sweetest? :)

Is it true you betrayed us?
The answer is Yes.
Then read me the list of the crimes that are mine,
I will ask for the mercy that you love to decline.
And all the ladies go moist,
and the judge has no choice,
a singer must die
for the lie in his voice.
And I thank you, I thank you,
for doing your duty,
you keepers of truth,
you guardians of beauty.
Your vision was right, my vision was wrong,
I'm sorry for smudging the air with my song. "
Ted Nugent 11-08-01, 08:47 PM "Throughout the soft and timeless days of August
'Til now the shadows begin to grow much longer
The sunset's fire has deepened blood red
I give you this, the last rose of summer
A token of my unyielding love
So when the winter's mantle stills the earth
And all around seems dead and cold
This rose reminds you of a time when all was warm and living
Do not despair, mother nature simply rests
In sleep she has well earned
'Til one day not so very far from now
With the opening of the first rose buds I shall return
A token of my unyielding love
So that when winter's mettle steals the earth
And all around seems dead and cold
This rose reminds you of a time when all was warm and living
The last rose of summer"
