An 80's New Wave forum with almost no mentioning of Depeche Mode?!? We need to change that. Here's a poll to kick off with.

My favourite will always be Black Celebration. I love every single track of this album. :)

For me, Love In Itself and Everything Counts defined the early '80s. Black Celebration was hard to rule out for me though Flix. :)

Uhm..erhm..eh....why isn't there an option that says "all of the above" so I don't have to choose? ;) :D I just love them period! And as we get closer to the date for their concert in Copenhagen I start to feel like a little kid on Christmas Eve :)

I liked Violator the best...with songs like Personal Jesus and Policy of Truth

Are you trying to bait me, Flix? :D

For many reasons, 'Music...' is my favourite album. During my frequent travels on the autobahn (my gf lived some 60 miles away from me), I must have worn out half a dozen tapes on which I´ve recorded this album...

"Sacred", "To Have And To Hold" and "Nothing" are among their most impressive tracks they ever recorded IMHO.

Always liked the album "Some Great Reward". Some of my fave Depeche Mode songs are on that album.

I really can't choose just one, to be honest. My favorites are:

Speak & Spell
Black Celebration
Violator

I voted for one of these, but it's really not a fair vote.

Do you think she was trying to tell you something Meister? Moving 60 miles away?

Just razzin' :p

This was one of the first cassettes I bought back in the day. I heard Blasphemous Rumours on the radio and was blown away, so different than anything I'd ever heard up to that point.

Anyhow, I soon wore the tape out and had to replace it.

For me, it just has to be Violator - I very lovely young lady introduced to that album when I was in Highschool and it changed my life - it really did! I then purchased the entire back catalog - Thanks Anne-Marie I will never forget you ;) heh heh

You know....a *very* special person introduced me to Black Celebration. I wonder if that's why I like it so much. Brings back such fond memories. :)

to celebrate the fact, that we've seen the back, of another black day - ooh yeah X - that would have to be my second most favorite album

I thought Music For The Masses was the best Depeche Mode album. I love "Behind The Wheel" ; "The Things You Said" ; "Nothing" all of it really.
Others that caught my attention are Speak & Spell ; Black Celebration ; Violator (love the track "Halo" from it).
I have all the DM albums too. I was a late starter with DM. It was 1991 at the age of 20 that my passion was ignighted. I bought the Violator album from a shop in the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney. And it began from there. I had snippets of DM in old record compilations (1984 The Music (an Australian compilation) had People Are People on it), and I had heard others (I thought Blasphemous Rumours was quite daring, lyric wise. The music was brilliant too! They really recrerated the sound of a life support machine in that relevant part...cool)
I love the live version of Just Can't Get Enough from the 101 album. hang on, we're talking studio albums here, New. Yes sorry, thought it was worth a mention!

Hey NewRomantic, that life support machine sample is creepy, but that song just does it for me - love the verson on 101 - especially the intro! I sure hope they come to Australia - when they were here in '94 I missed it and I have been regreting it ever since!

Black Celebration is definitely my favourite. Some Great Reward is great too; I think of it as a pre-amble to Black Celebration. I imagine both as a 2 CD epic depicting the rise and fall of a relationship. It would have made for a great "theme" set, IMO.

To be honest, i only know one album by Depeche Mode (i'm sorta new to this kind of music, although i enjoy it very much) and that's Violator (Favorite songs: World In My Eyes and Clean). I can't imagine them doing something better than this... I was hooked after the first play.

I don't know if it's allowed to talk about mp3 trading on here, but if someone wants to hook me up with some good stuff, please do.

OMG .. I LOVE Depeche Mode :D !!!!!!! Its very hard for me to make one choice of one studio album that I love the best cos they are all so good to me and each one means something different to me !!

I love Some Great Reward cos it was my first DM album I ever got ;) And I love Music For The Masses cos it was soooo good and I would say their best from the 80s. I love SOFAD cos it was the best lyrics Martin ever wrote !! And I also love ULTRA !!!!! OK well lets just say I love them all ;)
