Okay, yet another trip down memory lane.

Most high schools were probably no different then mine. They all have their own "groups". Let's see who fit in where.

The categories are (And you can use multiple combinations or make up your own if your school had extra types not included in the list if you like):

Popular
Average
Unpopular
Geek
Jock
Prep
Metal-head
Pop
New Wave
Outcast

Me...I was probably your average Metal-head. I got along moderately well with the jocks and preps. I preferred hanging out with my own crowd though.

I still remember the goofy stuff my bud Bill and I would come up with. In art class our teacher paired us up (Big mistake on his part), and told us to sculpt something representing our view of life...The result, A toothed Vulture eating a turtle with blood drops coming out the bottom of the turtle. We got a "D" for it....I wonder why? I thought it was excellent.

I think that 'The Breakfast Club' summed it up nicely in saying "each one of us is a brain, and an athlete, and a basketcase, a princess, and a criminal".

From your list though, it would break down something like this for me:

Freshman year - Average, Unpopular and an Outcast
Sophomore year - Average, Jock and New Wave
Junior and Senior years - Popular, Jock and Prep.

I think too much goes into to trying to define a persons type in highschool. Most don'tfall into any one category. I played lots of sports, but didn't see myself as a pure jock, did my share of drinking and drugs , but so didmost of the jocks and we all listened to what we thought was heavy metal back then (Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Kiss). I was even kinda smart that would shock most of you.

When I went to school there were four groups.

Group A) where jocks, stoners, metal heads, other popular kids, lots of chicks in tight jeans and grade A camel toes (even though we didn't know have a name for it)

Group B -artsy new wave people, they dressed differently, talked insipidly about soem new band U2 ,one hit wonders i think, they on average were smart. I think they actually partied like crazy but were more mature and discreet.... didn't shout out party at 3:20 on a friday afternoon in chemistry class.

Group C- The true geeks, some were really smart, many just looked smart and kept quiet but were damn near retarded. They weren't too menacing on the school ground, but give them a war hammer and drop them in middle earth and it would be pure chaos.

Group D-loners, people that didn't associate with any group, some were insane, but others were just more mature and hung out with college crowd etc.

I was never in any group. I was just there. :p I never fit into any groups. Still don't. I am happy being unique. Even if it means I don't fit in.;)

I did not classify myself as being part of any group. I got along with most people and if people were going to get mad at me for talking to another that was their problem... I did not care if you were labeled as a geek, jock, prep, punk or whatever... I look at what is in a persons heart, not what label people give them :)

By the way I looked I was obviously cast as a metalhead, but since I played all the sports I was in good with the jocks. I also was in good with the geeks cause I had a high grade point average. I blended nicely....;)

I would say I was popular, but only because I had everybody's party needs. I would say I was a geek, because I played video games and did well with grades. I could say I was a jock cause I played hockey, but I didn't see it that way.

I quess I was pretty much a menace. other than all that, I caused alot of trouble!

I was your average metal head, with slight geekness and loner as well. I played bass in a metal band, but was smart, and really did not do drugs or drink that much, so I was not a perfect fit with the typical metal crowd. But I was not smart enough for the geek crowd, I was the c student in AP courses, I remember how all the truly smart kids were amazed at my class rank, and that it must be some sort of mistake I was ranked so high. I hung out mostly with staight edge kids, or stoner gear heads, basically the kids that did not judge me, and just accepted me for who I was.

I was never really in a group. I kind of got along with everybody. I definitely was not popular but not an outcast either...sort of middle of the road.

Ditto here. I like to call myself "Universaly accepted". I got along with just about every group.

Certain things (baaaad things ) that I did in Elementary School made me a legend and when I got to high school, my classmates never forgot, so I guess I became more of an outcast.

Most of the kids in my class were idiots, jerks, the usual.. so basically I never stayed in school longer than I had to. I'd get to school just at the bell, I'd go home for Lunch and I'd leave school as soon as the bell rang.

I hung out with the metal-head/smoker/stoner crowd. I stepped out of my "area" once (ONCE) and dated a jock. But when he shaved K's on either side of his head, I was done with THAT!

Those lines were drawn very tight when I was in high school. There weren't many "crossovers" but people did move from clique to clique as your "image" changed.

Funny thing, one I graduated, I was surprised to find out there were WAAAY more people that knew me than I realized. When I lifeguarded at WetnWild during High School summers, I'd come back to school and automatically be lumped in the Jock crowd... only to jump right back to the metal-head crowd I belonged in. Even though I kept to my "own" ... I really got along with everyone. I was nice to all of them. :)

Exactly! That's why my list changes so drastically from my Freshman year to my Senior year.

As long as they were drinkers I would hang out with anyone :)

Not sure how I was perceived by others though. My grades were high, I played football (oops, I mean soccer) but my weekends were spent sulking around afterhours clubs. But I always felt that I fit in with most people at school. I think it was just my winning personality LOL.

I was another category mixer. I was a part-time prep, blended well with both the Smarties and the Populars, but I had friends who were viewed as Outcasts or different. I didn't discriminate! :)

Man....let me think here...we did have "cliques" yet I was friends w/someone in each one....we had...

jocks
preps (girls and guys thought their poop didn’t stink)
stoners/rockers
mods/gothic
average/<-me!
outcast <-trouble makers..
freshmen (lower man of the totem pole)

Mind you, we partied w/the jocks and preps I was a “wrestlerette” in H/S. We got to hang out w/the wrestling team and travel w/them for games...our job was (no not cheerleaders) but we had to watch time and tag the ref to tell him to stop the match. It did get scary having to chase the ref around on the mat. Mods/gothic group were just trippy, after hanging out w/the stoners/rockers for -----(I was no angle!) hhahaha :grrr:
I did want to beat the crap out of some prep girls though…then saw them at my 10year and was like…why was it I didn’t like you? Then it hit me they were still SNOOOTY! But I was nice to everyone, even the bullies in grade school liked me? LMAO

I did become friends w/a lot of freshmen when I was a soph to sr. from being a T.A.

Like a lot of others have responded, I never really fit in with any one group. There were few people who were exclusively in one group. I played sports, was in the top level classes, but listened to rock/metal.

I didn't socialize much with the band "geeks". They were kinda in their own clique.

Hmmmm...

I fit into a few catergories.. Metalhead, Stoner, Popular, Outcast... I got along with mostly everyone except for the cheerleaders. We had a mutual relationship. I hated them and they hated me..

When my friends and I threw parties we invited all of the groups. Nothing better than a kegger to bring everyone together. :)

You are too sweet now to have been mean to anyone back then. ;)
