I know most of you loverly people live somewhere other than the UK but i thought i would give you a heads up on the current "Q" magzine special edition with the rather drawn out title "Depeche Mode +The Story of Electro-Pop: When Machines Ruled the world"

http://www.q4music.com/nav?page=q4music.page&fixture_page=116524&resource=116524

It covers both the origins of Electro-pop (Kraftwerk and as far back as the BBC radiophonic workshop) and its evolution through the 80's to the current wave of revivalists.

It covers quiet well the usual suspects (for the UK) and references some of the originators, influences that somehow for me slipped through the net.

I felt it is worth the asking price and whilst not exhaustive, has no glaring holes.

I got it too, and it contains a "where are they now" section for various bands. I was particularly interested to see what Heaven 17 and propaganda are doing now. Also you should check out this months NME special edition on New Romantics and its articles from 1980 - 86. I think any lover of New Wave and New Romantic music would really like it!

I read that Q special edition from cover to cover and it's a compelling read! The articles on Depeche Mode alone make it an essential purchase!

There is a really interesting article about how Afrika Bambaata was influenced by Kraftwerk and others when he produced "Planet Rock" and how it in turn influenced New Order to make "Blue Monday" This magazine is soooo worth it!!
