Remember back in elementary school, some of the crap they made you make, what was some of the worst they had you make for me it was:

1) The maccaroni beer bottle candle holder, thats right, in grade 3 or 4 the teacher got us all to go home get our parents to give us an empty beer bottle, macaroni noodles, so 28 kids walked onto the school grounds pretending they were drinking beer and staggering.

So here's how you make it- cover a beer bottle with macoroni by gluing it, paid it gold, stick a candle in it....... no wonder we have few success stories from my grade 4 class on 1974... the art teacher was laready turning us into white trash only we didn't know it.

2) The Mexican Moroca- this was really dangerous, bring a light bulb to school, cover it with paper mache, paint it, then drop on the ground to make glass break . voila a beautiful instrument that made sound when you shook it...one problem, kids didn't exactly cover the light bulb perfectly, there were small openings, not big but big enough to expel tiny chards of light bulb glass...I guess if we went blind we wouldn't have to look at the candle holders

Hmmm...a few things I remember making in art class.

Bleach bottle piggy banks - complete with the pink curly pipe cleaner tail and the thread bobbin wooden feet. Some people got creative and made their pigs weird artistic colors (bright blue or polka dotted or whatever).

I remember making crayon shaving stained glass windows and/or autumn leaves between two sheets of waxed paper and ironing them with a hot iron.

I remember some weird kind of project where you colored a sheet with bright crayons, then you painted the whole thing with black paint, then scratched over the black paint with a nail creating an interesting pattern.

We used to do all kinds of weird things with toilet tissue rolls and/or wooden popcicle sticks. I don't remember the end products of these things, but I remember gluing my fingers together many a time.

We made clay bowls too. Roll out the clay into log strings then wrap it around to form a bowl.

We made this mask thing with a ballon, newspaper and paste. (I think the paste was made with flower and water.) You would cut strips of paper , dip them into the paste and place them around a ballon. When it dried you could cut it in half and make a mask.

I am sure I will remember some more things later.

I remember making Christmas ornaments out of styrofoam egg cartons, then applying glue and glitter to design an image. I made an ornament of Santa, but it looks more like the guy on the Pringle's potato chip can. I still have that ornament, by the way!

I remembered a couple more.

This will definately date me, but those L'eggs Pantyhose that used to come in plastic eggs, we made Christmas ornaments out of them.

We made a lantern/candle holder thing out of:

A Pringles potato chip can
A home vegetable caning ring stuck in the top
The glass jar that those fancy cheese spread came in

You cut a hole in the side towards the bottom, put a Christmas card in the can, so it was to simulate either a fireplace or a window viewd landscape.

Then cover the whole outside with felt.

Then stick a candle in the jar.

I made a bunch of those for Christmas that year. lol

We also made sock stuffed snakes. Took a clean/new tube sock in a bright color, stuffed it, sewed the end and put googly eyes and a tongue.
My cousin gave me back one I made her over 25 years ago recently. That was a trip back in time. lol

I made so many items throughout my school years, but some of the items that really were enjoyable for me to make were:

'I love you Dad' and an 'I love you Mom' wooden signs that I made in Woodworking class when I was 10.

A Plaster of Paris 'Train Car Cookie Jar' that I made for my Mom at Summer School when I was about 10.

A stone necklace I made at Summer School when I was 8.

The many fun Mother's Day and Father's Day gifts that my classes would make.

I especially loved making the 'Valentine Heart Bags'. What we did was we cut out huge hearts and punched holes around the edges, took yarn and strung the holes so that the heart became closed, Tied a Ribbon on the top sides to be the handle with reinforcers and it became a huge V Day Purse that all of the students in my 7th Grade Class excitingly put our many Valentine's Cards and candies. I remember arriving home with that bag and feeling so proud to show my Mom what I had made. Smiles.

In art class here we just painted and stuff but we had textiles class and also woodwork and metalwork classes.

We made all sorts of really shitty things, a really really bad wooden pencil box and also we made ashtrays!!!!! What a great thing to get 13 year olds to make

I remember in textiles we had to make ourselves a pair of shorts, OMG it was so hilarious seeing 30 14 year olds try on thier pants, I don't remember anyone having a pair that looked right
