Spooky happenings going on here in Cheltenham today :mwaha:

OK, so today I know it was Groundhog day for our US chums, but I think that I experienced a 'Groundhog day moment' myself today before my dentist appointment.

I arrived a little early for my checkup, so I popped into our music department store HMV for a browse to pass the time. I'd earmarked a DVD I wanted to buy for later, and as I was about to leave the store Bronski Beat's 'Smalltown Boy' started up, something which gained the Chasey nod of approval.

Anyway, about an hour later as I popped back into the store to pickup the dvd guess what just was still playing? Yep, Bronski Beat's 'Smalltown Boy' :eek:

So I reckon I'm still missing about an hour of my day today. Spooky eh? :lol:

Naturally, I just had to watch Groundhog Day on DVD today. Bill Murray is so brilliant. Wow, that must have been the extra-long, super-extended dance mix version of Smalltown Boy they were playing in the music store, Steve. Either that, or the dentist gave you a bit too much laughing gas! ;) :laugh:

You know what Mikey, right now I'm hedging my bets on both a bit too much laughing gas AND a previously unreleased extended mix of 'Smalltown Boy' :lol:

Maybe it was 'Smalltown Boy' day? :lol:

When I was a kid.. everytime I'd go to the dentist.. I'd always hear the song 'Someday' by Glass Tiger on the radio. These days it's like deja vu. Everytime! Every freaking time I go to the dentist.. I still hear that song atleast once while I am sitting in the dental chair :lol:

Particularly spooky is the fact that it was a Bronski Beat song. :uhoh:

Oh, I love that song. Never hear it enough... Someday, you'll be shedding a tear, to cry over me...

And whatever happened to little ol' Jimmy Sommerville? Wasn't his nickname Piglet? ;) I have to confess, I did like Bronski Beat and the Communards? :)

One song that Jimmy Somerville appeared on that I really liked was the 1985 hit 'Suspicious Minds' by Fine Young Cannibals. That song wouldn't do justice without his voice :thumb:

Good spot, I had forgotten about his contribution on that single. :thumb:

I love that version, even moreso than the Kings. When I used to sing on the Karaoke Competitions here in Dublin, I always sung that song in the style of FYC!! :thumb:

Spot on there Mr Prefab the version by FYC really does stand out against the Kings version, it has way more emotion in it whilst Elvis's version is just way over produced.

Smalltown Boy was probally the Bronski's finest moment in my opinion, and I can in fact confirm that the 'Dance-party-elongated-megadub-remix-version'* is infact 1 hour and 37 minutes long, so no it wasn't a Groundhog day momemt just some lazy HMV assistant that couldn't be bothered to change CD's. :mwaha:

* made up remix :D

I always thought that if they made a film on the life of Laurel & Hardy, Jimmy Somerville would be the perfect guy to play Stan Laurel.
Imagine him with a thick mop of hair on his head, playfully rubbing it with a Stan smile playing on his lips. Perfection.
