I just found out about an hour ago, that one of my former co-workers and good friend was struck and killed by a van this morning. He had gone to the corner store like he did every morning and was walking across the street to go to the Brook's Pharmacy which was approx. an eighth of a mile away when he was struck by a van that left the scene after hitting him. The man driving the van was arrested at work in Walpole, Ma. He told the police that he thought he had hit a pothole, continued on to pick up his co-workers and went to work. :grrr: The police said the man had only cleared a small opening on his frost covered windshield to see. Ironically, the accident happened only two houses down from where my friend lived. I'm sure that his wife heard the sirens this morning, but didn't know they were for her husband !!!!!! :( My best friend told me about the accident this morning at work, but I didn't think anything about it, other than hoping that no-one was seriously hurt. It just makes me mad that this guy didn't have the time this morning to clear off his frost covered windshield !!!!! If he had, he probably wouldn't of hit and killed my friend Paul. If anything could be learned from all this, if you live in a cold climate, please take the extra time to scrap all the frost off your windows, you don't know who's life you could save. My thoughts and prayers are with Paul's family right now.

Sorry to hear about your friend :(

Frost on windshield can certainly be a terrible danger. There are people who just don't realize the hazzards of Frost on a windshield. I always scrape off my windshields until there is not a speck of frost, ice or snow anywhere. Winter time can be very dangerous

R.I.P. Paul. I will keep him in my prayers :rose:

My thoughts and condolences to all those who knew and cared for your friend. Such a needless tradgedy! Almost makes you want to stay in your house all the time doesn't it?

I am deeply sorry to hear about the death of your friend, 80sfanatic.. It's hard to believe someone would be careless enough to drive around without clearing the windshield of their car of ice and snow... :(

:ghug: I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Paul. :( I've heard so many stories this winter about people not cleaning the ice and snow from their vehicles before heading down the road. What's wrong with people?? There's snow on the ground... get up early and take care of it.

That's bad news. It definitely reminds me to be more vigilante when clearing off frost on my windscreen in winter.

Thank you everybody !!!!! :ghug: It's been a tough 24 hrs. with little to no sleep and deep sadness/ anger. This was a senseless tragedy and should of never happened. I'm finding it hard to make sense of it. The kid that hit him was 20 yrs. old and was running late for work. That is the reason he gave police for not clearing all the frost. I'm so thankful that at the time of the accident, there were no children standing out waiting for the school bus. If it had been later, then they would've been. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.... I will relay them to Paul's devestated family. You are all wonderful and kind people and I'm happy to call you all friends !!!!!!!

It takes about five minutes to clear off your windshield and another couple to clean off the other windows--people are just so thoughtless, so wrapped up in their own concerns that they just don't think that what they do ends up effecting other people. I'm so sorry you lost your friend

This is such sad news, it seems that the simple things we couldn't be bothered doing can often lead to loss.
