All of these songs peaked in the charts in 1979 making them 70's hits, but they sometimes appear on 80's compilations

Which one is your favourite?

M's Pop Muzik is my favorite.

I went with "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" by Queen. But I like most every song on that list. BTW, isn't "My Sharona" by the Knack also a song that peaked in '79 but is considered an 80's tune?

I like most of the songs listed but I choose Video Killed The Radio Star because it was the first video shown to launch MTV and I was watching when it came on! Great memory!

I went for Platic Bertrand, although I could have easily voted for M Pop Muzik or The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star.

Good poll! :thumb:

Actually went for the Herb Alpert track 'Rise' from the album of the same name, in which Tijuna meets disco culminating with the excellent track Aranjuez (Mon Amour) in which Rodriego's guitar concerto is given a clever twist of brass.

Some of those songs peaked here in the US in the beginning of 1980 or still were on the charts in 1980 like "Pop Muzik". I chose that one..cause I love it..but I do like many of the songs listed.

I pulled out my good old Billboard Top 100 Hits to see when those songs peaked in the US (I'm bored can't you tell LOL).

*Gary Numan's "Cars" peaked on the US charts on 02/16/1980

*Buggles "Video Killed" peaked on the US charts on 11/10/1979 but stayed in the charts until February, 1980. [Strangely when the video premiered on MTV in 1981 the record company chose not to re-release it..could have been a bigger hit then reaching no. 40]

*Plastic Bertrand - Did not chart

*Nick Lowe's "Cruel to be Kind" peaked on the US charts on 07/28/1979 stayed on the US charts until the first week of October 1979.

*Sniff'n' The Tears' "Driver's Seat" peaked on the US charts on 07/21/1979 and stayed on the charts until October 1979.

*Joe Jackson's "Is He Really Going Out With Him" peaked on the US charts on 06/09/1979 and stayed on the charts until September 1979.

*Ian Dury and the Blockheads - Did not chart

*B-52's "Rock Lobster" peaked on the US Charts on 04/19/1980 and stayed on the charts until May, 1980.

*Queen's "Crazy Little Thing" peaked on the US charts on 12/22/79 and stayed on the charts until April, 1980.

*Madness "One Step Beyond" did not chart

I too like Driver's Seat.

I three liked it. I also liked No Time To Lose by the Tarney/Spencer Band, but I think that was a late 70's release that didn't chart until the 80's. Not quite the same, but close.

Looks like I am the only one who voted for Cruel to be kind.

Always assumed Driver's seat was end 80s because it was in a car commercial at that time.

I am surprised Rock Lobster has not acquired any votes. That was always (and probably still is) a popular party song

I went with "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" by Queen. But I like most every song on that list. BTW, isn't "My Sharona" by the Knack also a song that peaked in '79 but is considered an 80's tune?

I've never seen My Sharona on an 80's CD yet, but speaking of The Knack, I've seen their song Good Girls Don't (which peaked in September of 1979) on several 80's comps. Both are great Knaco songs :thumb:

*Plastic Bertrand - Did not chart

It was a chart hit in the US, but it peaked in 1978. In some places, it re-charted in '79 :)

Wow no-body liked "The B-52's" huh?......Well I am a big fan of early 80's Punk,Wave...Devo,Flying Lizards,Blondie,Missing Persons....The B-52's first Album was very inovative at the time...no-body from Athens,Georgia was doing that sound..cept. mostly honky tonk...and The B-52's "Planet Claire" and " Dance This Mess Around" were great tunes for thier time.
