P-Machinery by Propaganda. That is a great song! I like their song 'Duel' a bit more. Their album 'A Secret Wish' is one of the best albums IMO of the 80's

Ice 9 has. He said it has a older crowd and they play all the old 80's Industrial stuff. If I get a Friday night out, I might go check it out.

Me too, hence the name Xcess-n-Htown. I probably went to 6400 only a handful of times as Xcess had a much better light show and better stereo. Plus they didn't play the same songs every Saturday night.

We went to Numbers only on Thursdays (1$ Imports) and any good concerts.

There was also Rich's on Thursdays - straight night - I believe it was a gay bar the rest of the nights. But thursdays were packed and always a long line to get in. They played som great music.

It was a big hit in Houston, as the radio stations would play the song during the day as well as during live broadcasts from clubs.

So, I don't understand how someone would point you out as being from Houston. However, all the songs you listed were so apparent from days at NRG and IN-10-City. My gosh, people other than myself remember these awesome songs. Club 6400 and #'s. WOW!!!! Please get in touch with me. I am sure there are many, many songs I need to remember.

Any body remember Ricki-Bang, Bang, Bang (Who's on the phone?) and Three O'Clock-Suzie's on the Ball Now from NRG? Those are a couple of my favorites. I just found this forum, this is amazing!!! I wonder what it was about that time period in Houston? Hardly anyone else in the country seems to be familiar with this particular music.

By the way, I have almost every record mentioned above and for Christmas my wife gave me everything I need to convert them to MP3's. If anybody is looking for anything let me know.

Would love to get a list from you on NRG songs. I have Ricki but i'll have to look for Three o'clock. I have a NRG club tape made by Willie when he was playing the adult room. A guy from Georgia emailed it to me. I have plenty to trade in 6400 songs.

Sure, I'd be glad to give you anything you don't have. I just got a system called Finalscratch2 that allows you to record your vinyl to computer hard drive and then mix the MP3's with your turntables. I'm in the process of recording everything, but I have a long way to go since I just started. I'm sort of computer illiterate, but I'm learning. If you give me your e-mail, I'll record Three O'Clock and send it to you. I have a single and extended version of Bang Bang Bang. I never heard the extended version at NRG (or any other club). I'm sure you have some stuff I don't have too. Pretty much every song I knew, I bought, but there were few songs on these lists that I'm not familier with. It sounds like you have alot of music.

I have some mix tapes from the club dj's back then, but I'm not sure how good of condition they are in after all these years. I have one from NRG that I bought from Ford (the black guy who worked in the bathroom), one from a club called Houston Life, one from Power Tools. I also have one from Mike Pratt, but I can't remember what club he dj'd at. I think it was Houston Life. One thing I have that is cool if I can find it is an acetate that plays on your record player that NRG mailed out as an advertisement for a 1988 New Years Eve party. I know it is somewhere in my record collection, but at the moment I can't remember where I put it.

I also have two or three copies of some records (including Three O'Clock). If I found something for 25 cents at Half Price Books I couldn't pass it up. Sorry, I don't have a list put together. If you are in Houston, I don't mind you looking through my crates though. Hell, I'm excited that other people are still interested in this stuff. I haven't run accross anybody that knows this music as well as you guys in about 15 years. When I read the lists of yall's favorite songs, I was thinking holly crap there is my record collection!

Scott

A few more rare ones I thought of that I didn't see on the lists:

Telekin-Imagination
No ho-Touch
Ho Ho Kam - Harlequin Tears
Tiger Moon - Something Tells Me
Ward Brothers-Cross that Bridge
Two Minds Crack-Cry, Cry, Cry
Until December-Until December
Taffy-I Love My Radio
Michael Moret-Want Me
Sean Hayden-Party Boy

I remember when Until December and the Razormaid with Call it Heaven where something like $300 at Record Rack. Telekin was about a $100. All of the above where $20 to $50 at one time.

You guys are bringing back sooooo many memories!!! I soooo loved all of the music that you all have listed! Still do! I used to sneak into 6400, I was probably 16 years old, but not the original one, the one they opened after it burnt down. Does anyone remember the club Carrz (sp?). Used to go there too. And Numbers (of course). If anyone has any old mix tapes please let me know. I saw that Greenlee posted that he has an old tape of Mikey Pratt's, I would love to hear that!! I never got to go to NRG, it closed down before I got the chance, but I do have an old NRG matchbook in a scrapbook. Got it from a friend of mine way back when! Anyway, take care all you H-Towners. Hope to see a reply from someone about those mixtapes!

Oops, almost forgot to put one of my favorite songs down on my post. Here are a few.

Maurice - Acid
Kyper - Exstacy
Ministry - Flashback

I remember Cars, but I am a little too old to have gone there. I think it was more of a teen club and I was in my early 20's by that time.

I don't mind sharing tapes. Xcess N Htown is copying the Mike Pratt tape to cd.

I lived in Dallas for a few years in the 90's. Dallas had a cool 90's dance music scene.

What year was it? I never went, but do remember them. I think I was around 18 at the time.

I went to the club Carz on I-10 a few times. My roommate was good friends with the Dj. I went over to his apartment and he had to have had at least 15-20 record crates of music. It was a teen club and I was in my 20's so wasn't one of my faves.

Yeah, I was around 15 so Carz was one place I could get in legally! Everyplace else I had to sneak in or try to use my best friend's cousins paper ID, LMAO!! I can't believe that used to work! I went to the one on I-10 once to see Yaz (without Alison Moyet, boy was I bummed!), the one on Ella/Kuykendahl (mostly went there, it was closest, went to school in small town north of Houston, anyone heard of Cleveland TX, LOL), and the one on Jones Rd (only a couple of times). It was fun, I was so trashed most of the time though, it's all a big blur! (wiggin, LOL) Had a lot of FUN though!!
I think it was around 87/88? Not sure. I think I was a sophomore in high school so that's about right.

Cleveland? I graduated from Dayton High School so I know it well. I saw Information Society at Carz and paid 15$ for ticket. They played 3 songs and then ran everyone out of the building as they were doing a second show right after.

I used to hang out at NRG: 901 Shepard; and then 6400 on Richmond before it burned to the ground. In fact, since 1985, I've been collecting everything that was played at each one of those clubs including Xcess, Numbers and the Lizard Lounge. I remember walking into Numbers while greeting Bruce Godwin at the door: pay your $5 for entry on the left, turn your head to the right and Bruce would pop-in a hit of X from a punch bowl full of it that he was carrying--and that's when it was legal and worth every moment. The good 'ole days!

Pretty impressive list! Xcess-N-Htown gave me a mix tape from Xcess with a couple of pretty cool songs we couldn't identify. Maybe I could e-mail them to you and you could take a crack at them?

I have gotten to the point where I have found pretty much every underground dance record from back then that I liked and knew about. Pretty much anything I don't have its because I never heard of it, or it was so common or top40ish that I never bought it. I have everything on your list except the following:

Sure! I'd be happy to attempt to. Like you, through time I've either forgotten certain songs or I never could find their names to remember to collect them after the fact.

It's funny, all these years I thought I was the only wigger with this crazy obsession for keeping clubs like NRG, 6400 & Xcess alive.

Wes Wallace - DJ ar Numbers has some good mix CDs on his web site. Has anyone purchased anything from him? Friday Night "Classic Numbers" is the best attended 80's night in H-Town...with music below, I can see why. His website has free music to download, but for some reason my computer won't allow me. He has an awsome free download of Vicious Pink - 815 to Nowhere - (Long Mix). If anyone can download it and send it to me I would apreciate it.

I have the 12 inch version I could send you. I assume that is what he has. I have never heard another version. EDIT: Nevermind, I listened and his has an extra long intro. Now that I think about it, I don't think the 12 inch is any different from the album. I will try and download it though.

Thanks to everyone that replied and helped me find some stuff. There is still tons I want, but most of it I never knew the names of. I just danced to it.

I never got to 6400 or NRG (What does that stand for, by the way?). And ecstacy was out by the time I could legally get into clubs. So sorry i missed out on that. I've heard stories. Acid was in though, and that was lots of fun. LOL.

6400 was the address of the original location of the club (6400 Richmond ave) and NRG stands for "energy". Sorry, but you missed out on some great times, but the music is still around.

Wow..i thought i would never find anything about this club. I was very young when this club was up and running. I used to live behind it at some apartments called BriarGarden on Hillcroft next to the post office. Man..i was probably 9 or 10 at the time I think. As a kid we used to cross the street and ride our bikes and skate boards around that club in the parking lot. When it got burnt we went in the building with some other kids and found some records. Lord knows what happen to them. Wow..this is crazy...hehehe....even though I was very young I loved listening to the radio and remember some of the artist names posted here. Like kon kan, x-express, MARRS - Pump up the volume and others. Does anyone remember Magazine 60 - Don Quichotte? released on 5-10-1986. hehehe...took me years to find that damn song.

Does anyone remember a song that started out with a sorta Air-Raid sound with a beat, and then it paused and a wispering male voice says Always. Then through out the rest of the song, you hear "always, you always will". There is also this point toward the middle end of the song where this girl comes on and starts fading ini with "to see your face, to see your face, bring me down"...

I was too wigged out to ever get the name of the tune and have been looking for years!

Thanks!

I remember .5 beer nights at numbers. Man, it's been a long time since I have heard these club names (in colorado now). Number, 6400, Xcess, NRG, Powertools, Therapy. Wow...brings back memories.

Snoogins,
I knew a houstonion/baytownian clubber that moved to colorado. Did you use to work for TI and drive a blue rx7??

Joe

...and since most of the posters here are from the Houston area, what about The Judy's?
Not necessarily club, but the best beach music of the time!! I had many good times hanging out at Jamaica Beach, jamming to The Judy's.

Wow, Sunday mornings on Jamaica beach were the best. It is a small strip of beach that was getting way too crowded on Sunday mornings, so the cops put up barracades and wouldn't allow any cars on it so we had to move to Indian beach. That beach was too big and spread everyone out too far so it wasn't as much fun.

Jamaica beach was the best!!! But if I remember right it was spring break 88 or 89 that caused Jamaica beach to be shut down. :(

badrockcity, I liked some of The Judy's music "Guyana Punch" and "All The Pretty Girls" at the top of my list. Here is a site you should check out: http://www.thejudys.com/index.html

I thought it was closed sometime during the summer of 1988. I remember (I think) that we were going to Indian beach in 1988 but maybe it was 1989.

Yeah, I was lucky enough to find that site before they took all of the MP3's down. I was able to get a lot of demos & live versions.

I can't remember exactly when either, it's all a blur. I think I may have drifted away from it a little towards the end & started hanging out on the sea wall.
I seems like it was around the same time they closed NRG. When was that?

NRG's probably closed 1988 as John started the club that was at the Therapy Location in 1988. I remember going to NRG's in the early part of 1988 and it was dying then.
