Who remembers the classic game show Treasure Hunt?

70's version

Based off an old game show of the 50's of the same name, The New Treasure Hunt (which was created by the legendary Chuck Barris) ran from 1973-1977

The object of this game was for two contestants to face off against two boxes, one which contained a jack-in-the-box. The player who got that box, advanced on where she would choose another box out of 66 numbered boxes that contained props for a skit and a small dollar amount.

Players had the choice of taking the money, or giving it up to pick another box for a chance to win a bigger prize (some of which included anything from trips to cars to grand prizes of a check for $25,000) but they could also end up with a "clunk", which was a worthless prize of no value

The thing that was weird about this show was that only female contestants were allowed, because when the contestant won, she usually would grab host Geoff Edwards and squeeze him in excitement

When it was brought back to TV in 1981 simply as Treasure Hunt, males were now allowed :thumb:

This time around, 10 audience members were randomly given balloons but only one had a star inside it. Once the ballons were popped, the lucky contestant came up on stage to face the previous champion against two boxes. The audience player chose first. The contestant with the jack-in-the-box continued on to play the game, which played the same as the 70's version, only the grand prize check was now worth $50,000

Sadly, Treasure Hunt didn't become re-popularized and thus was cancelled in 1982 :(

Oh yeah, I loved this game show. I grew up on them, became a game-show afficianado. I used to want to be on one so much for many years as a child and teenager. Unfortunately, they seem to be a thing of the past anymore. I can only count a handful still taping:

Jeopardy
Who wants to be a millionaire
Whammy (the all new Press your luck)
Russian Roulette

There may be others that I'm forgetting...

Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune are both still in taping, but sadly, they cancelled my favourites Hollywood Squares and Pyramid at the end of last season

I wanna go back to the 80's when Game Shows were all over the channels in Daytime TV. Now those were the best days :thumb:

I totally agree!

I wish we, as the 80s xchange family could go and kick some butt on Family Feud (although I dislike that show.)
