What's up, y'all? No, that's not me in my avatar pic. That is Mr. Jerry G. Bishop, former Chicago TV personality, portraying the greatest horror movie host of all time, Svengoolie. This guy scared and fascinated me when I was a kid. Instead of slicking his hair back and dawning a cape, Bishop created Svengoolie as a day-glo, hippie vampire, in striped bell bottoms and sandals. He was only on for a couple of years, although there is now another Svengoolie in Chicago, but what he did was groundbreaking and a whole lot of fun.

Ah I *love* horror hosts, there used to be a great one in Pittsburgh (from 1963 to 1983) Chilly Billy Cardille (http://myweb.wvnet.edu/~u0e53/chillyshow.html) - alot of times the little segway spots between horror movies would be even better then the movies themselves!

Here is a page about Svengoolie (http://fast.horrorseek.com/horror/svengoolie/bishop.html)

I will sometimes watch a program on the local Cable access channel (picture Wayne's World) - called The Horror Host Underground - it showcases current horror hosts across the country. It's amazing what some people do. Horror Host Underground webpage (http://www.geocities.com/horrorhostunderground/)

Thanks, Beautiful! I couldn't have done it without your expertise. ;)

I've already got the Svengoolie page in my faves. Thanks for that horror host page. That shows what's wrong with TV today. There's so little local color. Everything comes from either NY or LA, and there's a very limited amount of local programming. Local shows really capture the flavor of a community. I'd love to see them return.

Thanks, Mike. I'm really a pretty warped guy, underneath the boring, nerdy exterior.

Yes she does! :D I have a photo of me with her at a horror convention a few years ago. She's even more stunning in person!

Bookmistress, Chilly Billy's last name was Cardille, and I have a trivia question for everyone! His daughter played the lead in a famous horror movie. Can you guess which one and who she is?

ah, I never could spell that well. Thanks for the correction.

Elvira is/was awesome. I have a couple of her shows on video tape somewhere, she also appeared as a drawn character in some of my horror comics, House of Mystery. I saw her giving a tour of her home once on t.v. She seems pretty down-to-earth. I find it amazing that anyone can keep a character fresh for the 30 odd years shes' been doing it.

That's cool! Kinda makes me sad, though. I had this Canadian friend when I was a kid. He always wanted to play hockey with the Leafs, and died when he fell out of the tree practicing. :thumb: Gotcha!

Jerry Garcia always reminded me of Svengoolie, too. :thumb:
