View Full Version : Favorite Numan Song???
keeping with the favorite song by a paticular artist theme i thought i would throw gary numan out there in the mix. what is your favorite gary numan song (i guess you could include side projects too)?
this is a tough one for me since i dont think the man has ever released anything short of perfection (er...well maybe Machine and Soul)....anyways....
my choice would be... We Take Mystery (To Bed)
whistledog 10-25-04, 11:06 PM Change Your Mind by Sharpe and Numan (Gary Numan and Bill Sharpe of Shakatak)
It wasn't a success here in North America, but I still love it. It was a simply wonderful new wave song that was unlike anything Sharpe had done with Shakatak. Very original :thumb:

that is a GREAT disc. im glad you posted that cos i didnt know bill sharpe had done anything outside a few collaborations with other singers. cool. ill have to check out Shakatak.
Xcess-N-Htown 10-26-04, 12:57 PM Mine would be "No More Lies" and then "Cars". Cars and Depeche Mode's / Behind the Wheel were my first 2 12" records to buy. I still remember going to every record store in town looking for them and finally a salesman told me that they were Imports and you had to go to Record Rack to buy. Once I found Record Rack, my paycheck was never enough. :bigcry:
ObiDave 10-26-04, 01:05 PM I'd have to say "Cars" even though it's been played out. I was 9 yrs old (1979) when someone gave my sister the Pleasure Principle album. She didn't like it so she gave it to me. I listened to that thing ALL the time. Wish I still had it. I was living in a "rural" Texas town at the time and it was like nothing I had ever heard before.
Xcess - I loved Record Rack also. Money went quick there, didn't it?
Crump99 10-26-04, 02:00 PM I'll go Cars although it was a hit here in the UK in Sept 79 so isn't really 80s for me. However, it was re-released in Sept 87 as Cars (E Reg model) / Are Friends Electric double A side I presume?
gazza67 10-27-04, 02:44 PM Mine would be 'Cars', 'Are Friends Electric' and 'Down In The Park' :thumb:

Save spending your money, just go to any supermarket, shopping centre or lift and you'll hear Shakatak, it's aural wallpaper!

My favourite track is the live version of Bombers. My favourite collaboration would be Love needs no disguise with Dramatis.

Import 12" singles were 8.99 or 9.99 each and Domestic were 5.99 each. This was back in 1987, have they gone up any?
ObiDave 10-27-04, 05:59 PM Record Rack is closed now, I think. All I remember is going in there to buy 12" records and it always seemed like they were over $10 each. Maybe 9.99 like you said. Anyway, we didn't go alot but when we did the first place to look was on the wall for the top 10 or 15 club records.

Jefferson Starship 12-31-04, 05:01 PM 'Are Friends Electric' was just awesome! :thumb:
xistenza 12-31-04, 10:24 PM Down in the Park. I had forgotten about this song. It's so great.
I also really like We. Have. a. Technical. Anyone ever hear Damon Albarn (from Blur) cover this? It's incredible. It appears on the CD compilation, "Random: Gary Numan Tribute". EMF, Magnetic Fields, and a few other good bands are here too.

Yeah Damon Alburns version is awesome! That whole cd is really good. I made the mistake though of purchasing Random(02). I've tried to like it but it's pretty much crap IMO. Well actually, track 10 is so-so....the rest is crap. :)
Eric T H 1-01-05, 04:31 PM Are friends electric still my favourite followed by Cars
DuranieGirl 3-31-05, 11:16 AM My fav Numan song is "Cars".
dcantujr 4-07-05, 04:59 AM New Thing from London Town. The opening 3 to 4 minutes really made you want to dance. Numbers played this alot.

I agree with you IxceIX - he rarely did anything bad (well maybe Berserker slight mis-step), but outside of that, pretty close to being perfect.
Tough choice...I would have to pick Stormtrooper In Drag :thumb:
Monty007® 7-05-05, 06:23 AM I Die You Die & We Take Mystery To Bed :mwaha:
There are 2 Numan songs that I like best: Cars and Are Friends Electric. He also did a very good cover of the song U Got The Look, original is by Prince.
BlitzKid 7-10-05, 06:23 PM Are friends electric is also my favorite Numan/Tubeway Army song.
MikeySwede 7-13-05, 01:35 PM "We Are Glass" and "White Boys And Heroes" gets my vote
I'm new to this site.
My favorite Gary Numan song would have to be Ice Man. The way the sax and the guitar interchange with each other is so hot!
