View Full Version : What one song ...
can you hear that brings joy, sadness, or love?
With yesterday being 9-11-04, I reflected on all the families that had their lives changed forever in just a matter of moments. How children will never get a goodnight kiss or be tucked in at bedtime. The spouses that will forever have a needless void that for the most part will never close. I found myself also thinking about my own Father who I lost in 1990 at the age 45. The song that always reminds me of my Father and I see so much in me is Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin. For me this song brings a flood of emotions that allow me to be the best person/husband/father that I can be.
I have many but the most would be the song BLURRY, i hear that song and I just break down.
blackdragon 9-12-04, 01:27 AM One of the few country songs I like. It's called "That's My Job" It reminds me of my father and brings me to tears every time.
whistledog 9-12-04, 02:20 AM I always found the song 'Come Back' by the Mighty Wah! to be very sad.

keriberri 9-12-04, 02:27 AM After 9/11 everytime I heard "Proud To Be An American" i just bawled! I hate country music (no offense to any Country lovers) but this song just got to me, specially the line '...and I'd gladly stand up and defend her still today.." some of the web sights I have seen dedicated to 9/11 have some fantactic yet sad tribute songs and I bawl everytime.
AngelicR 9-12-04, 02:32 AM Hero
Would you dance
if I asked you to dance?
Would you run
and never look back?
Would you cry
if you saw me cry?
And would you save my soul, tonight?
Would you tremble
if I touched your lips?
Would you laugh?
Oh please tell me this.
Now would you die
for the one you loved?
Hold me in your arms, tonight.
I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.
Would you swear
that you'll always be mine?
Or would you lie?
would you run and hide?
Am I in too deep?
Have I lost my mind?
I don't care...
You're here tonight.
I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.
Oh, I just want to hold you.
I just want to hold you.
Am I in too deep?
Have I lost my mind?
I don't care...
You're here tonight.
I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by your forever.
You can take my breath away.
I can be your hero.
I can kiss away the pain.
And I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.
You can take my breath away.
I can be your hero.
Michelle_TAV 9-12-04, 05:30 AM There are 3 songs that have special meanings to me for different reasons...
Dust in the Wind - Kansas
In the Living Years - Mike & the Mechanics
In My Life - The Beatles
bookmistres4ever 9-12-04, 05:45 AM I would agree with Michelle_TAV about the Beatles, In my life. That song has touched my life for many years now.
I also happen to bond with the song "Thank you" by Dido, and actually another song by the same artist, "Here with me."
Eric T H 9-12-04, 10:31 AM Atmosphere by Joy Division as it's the song that I want played at my funeral, though sadly it'll probally be the first and last time, that the people who thought they knew me will have heard it, and very few will even understand what it's meaning is, and how little they really know about who I was, which sums up most of the ****ed up relationships in my life.
Atmosphere by Joy Division as it's the song that I want played at my funeral
That's maybe the finest record ever made, it's just a shame so few have heard it.
I'd probably say 'The Killing Moon' by Echo & The Bunnymen.

In the Living Years - Mike & the Mechanics is another one that reminds me of my Dad a lot too, for the fact that I never got a chance to say good bye to him.
ElectricYouth 9-13-04, 12:00 AM Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You, by Stevie Nicks. I hear that one, and I just break down.
DC Rebel 9-13-04, 09:36 AM For me, it would have to be the song, "The Last Song," by Elton John.
Prefab Sprouter 9-13-04, 10:10 AM Theres a few that have gotten to me over the years.
Sideshow - The Stylistics
Dont walk away - Jade
Everybody's gotta learn sometime - The Korgis
My Brother Jake - Free
And the one song that, when played, haunts me about 9/11: New York Minute - Don Henley. Yeah I know its probably cliched but its eerie all the same.
Ever since 9/11, I have a hard time listening to "In A New York Minute" by Don Henley without welling up with tears.
Harry got up
Dressed all in black
Went down to the station
And he never came back
They found his clothing
Scattered somewhere down the track
And he won't be down on Wall Street
in the morning
He had a home
The love of a girl
But men get lost sometimes
As years unfurl
One day he crossed some line
And he was too much in this world
But I guess it doesn't matter anymore
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
Things can get pretty strange
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
Lying here in the darkness
I hear the sirens wail
Somebody going to emergency
Somebody's going to jail
If you find somebody to love in this world
You better hang on tooth and nail
The wolf is always at the door
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
Things can get a little strange
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
And in these days
When darkness falls early
And people rush home
To the ones they love
You better take a fool's advice
And take care of your own
One day they're here;
Next day they're gone
I pulled my coat around my shoulders
And took a walk down through the park
The leaves were falling around me
The groaning city in the gathering dark
On some solitary rock
A desperate lover left his mark,
"Baby, I've changed. Please come back."
What the head makes cloudy
The heart makes very clear
The days were so much brighter
In the time when she was here
But I know there's somebody somewhere
Make these dark clouds disappear
Until that day, I have to believe
I believe, I believe
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
You can get out of the rain
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute

Same here! My friend paul sang it at karaoke this saturday (9/11) and I just sat there and bawled my eyes out. A few other people joined me and the whole bar stood up and sang along. It was awesome.
But as far as my song. I have a whole album that brings out all three emotions. Jeff Buckley's Grace especially this song
Last Goodbye.
This is our last goodbye
I hate to feel the love between us die
But it's over
Just hear this and then i'll go
You gave me more to live for
More than you'll ever know
This is our last embrace
Must I dream and always see your face
Why can't we overcome this wall
Well, maybe it's just because i didn't know you at all
Kiss me, please kiss me
But kiss me out of desire, babe, and not consolation
You know it makes me so angry 'cause i know that in time
I'll only make you cry, this is our last goodbye
Did you say 'no, this can't happen to me,'
And did you rush to the phone to call
Was there a voice unkind in the back of your mind
Saying maybe you didn't know him at all
You didn't know him at all, oh, you didn't know
Well, the bells out in the church tower chime
Burning clues into this heart of mine
Thinking so hard on her soft eyes and the memories
Offer signs that it's over... it's over
Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler. It was played at my mother's funeral... and it always brings me to tears.
