What albums do you guys love.. albums that did not feature any major hits?

One of my favourites was Toto's 1981 album Turn Back. The album was not a big seller, and it featured no major hits.

Luckily, they came back with 1982's multi-platinum award winning Toto IV :)

There was a good cd by the group Breakfast Club, which was pretty good, although it had a really minor hit, "Right on track" but I don't think it made the charts or anything.

The soundtrack to the movie, "Sing" was good, as was the soundtrack to the movie "Metropolis", it had a great song by Pat Benatar on it "Here's my heart."

Bridget JOnes' Diary soundtrack was really good too, as was the soundtrack to "The truth about cats and dogs."

I mainly stick to greatest hits and compilation CDs though.

I'd go for Front 242 and their 1987 album 'Official Version'.
Very electronic Belgian 'New Beat', just a great album from start to finish and absolutely no chance of a hit single!

For me, it would have to be Saxon's - Strong Arm of the Law

Metropolis was a great soundtrack :thumb: Love Kills by Freddie Mercury was a top 20 hit in the UK, but unfortunately remained a minor hit in North America :(

both Right on Track and Kiss and Tell from that Breakfast Club album charted in the U.S., but 'Right on Track' was pretty much their best known work

Just as a trivia side-note, I think Madonna sang with them before either she or the band made it big. :)

Wow! I had completely forgoten about that

Madonna was indeed a featured player on that album yes. She helped produce, write and sing back up on some of the songs :)

During my, ahem, extended summer break, I saw Mannequin on DVD for the first time, where I heard Alisha's "Do You Dream About Me" on the soundtrack. I later found out it was part of her Nightwalkin' album, which I managed to snag on Ebay by pure luck. (Jana would have been proud of me. :D )

Since then Nightwalkin' has become a permanent part of my car's CD play list. The critics didn't like it because in this album Alisha departed from her famous freestyle format to venture into synth pop. I, on the other hand, happen to be a big fan of synth pop, so as far as I'm concerned it was a big success. :D

I also enjoyed the 1986 Air Supply album Hearts in Motion. It did squeak out a minor hit with the song Lonely is the Night but sadly that album was released at the time when no one cared about Air Supply anymore. It wouldn't be until 1991 that Air Supply released their next album The Earth Is...

One album I still like very much is Ellis, Beggs & Howards "Homelands". Had a minor hit on it, but didn't get the credit it deserved IMHO. I've written a little about it here (http://www.80sxchange.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30718)
