Anybody got a favourite comedy single?
I was always quite partial to the song Take Off by Bob and Doug MacKenzie featuring Geddy Lee
click to hear an audio sample --> Take Off Audio Clip (http://www.geocities.com/takeoffsctv/takeoffeh.wav)
It was a hit single in 1981 that was based on a skit by http://www.webfitz.com/lyrics/canFlag.gif Canadian actors Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas that appeared in the popular http://www.webfitz.com/lyrics/canFlag.gif Canadian sketch comedy series SCTV.
The Chicken Song from Spitting Image & Mel Smith's 'Julie Andrews Greatest Hits' which main comic thing was it sounded like 'Julie Andrews Greatest tits'. I was young at the time.

Were Spitting Image those marionettes? If I remember, there was a Prince one?
I remember the seasonal song Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree by Mel Smith and Kim Wilde. That was a great tune :thumb:
Spitting Image was a satirical show, the puppets were gross rubber caricatures of celebrities, politicians and popstars. It started out funny but after a while the scripts got more political and less funny. You may have seen the puppets as they were used in the Phil Collins video to his 'Land Of Confusion' Video.

A few I certainly remember
Chalkdust - The Brat, a pop at John McEnroes wimbledon antics!
Snot Rap - Sid Snot, well err.. Actualy well loved (and late lemented) British Radio DJ/TV Comedian Kenny Everett doing a micky take care of his punk rocker character sid snot (All done in the best possible taste), Imortal lyric of "we can chuck in a word lice circumcision, 'cuase we ain't going in for Eurovison"
Shudupaya face however, part comedy, part novelty, best remembered for keeping Vienna by Ultravox from the top spot! :spankin:

The Young Ones:
They did a performance with Cliff Richard for "Living Doll" as part of Comic Relief.
Cliff:
"gotta lock her up in a trunk
so no big hunk
can steal her away from me"
Rik:
"I still think that suggesting locking women in car boots is politically unsound"
Mike:
"It's only a song Rik"
Instrumental Break
Vyvyan:
"Great Cliff! Which instruments do you want us to break!?!?"
and then Neil did a cover of Traffic's "Hole in My shoe"
Neil:
"I walked through a field
that just wasn't real
with one hundred foot soldiers
which stood at my soldiers"
Rik:
"Fascists!"
I also enjoyed Alexei Sayle's singing career (he was separate from the rest of the Young Ones, because he refused to work with Sir Cliff)- especially the obscene answering machine B-side to Ello John Gotta New Motor

I remember the Land of Confusion Video. Always thought it was a little strange. The one puppet looked more like Mike Rutherford than Mike Rutherford did

Morris Minor and the Majors - Stutter rap (No sleep till bedtime) is a favourite of mine. Also the Comic relief single by Bananarama / La na nee nee noo noo with the cover version of 'Help', the song featured Dawn French & Jennifer Saunders plus Kathy Burke and got to number 3 in 1989.
Also a group called 'A Tribe of Toffs' who had a hit with 'John Kettley (is a weatherman)' and also 'Terry Wogan's on TV again'.

No Sleep 'til Bedtime was wicked :thumb: I'm still surprised that it missed the U.S. charts 'coz it was all the rage here in Canada in 1988

I faintly remember a skit from that show when Margaret Thatcher was beating up a beaver (canadian)
